Default Melos agent says the suspension was "Excessive"

won't appeal but cmon...that's not excessive. Ron artest getting the season was excessive...JO got 15 games after his appeal but originally was penciled in for 25! I think stern just hates the p's...

Considering the vast history of people punching other people on a basketball court (aside from Kermit Washington shattering Rudy T's face and JO decking Turtle from Entourage), 15 games is a hell of a lot.

Of course things have changed since Ron Ron, but still. 15 games is almost 1/5 of the season.

The suspension periods are escalating because the violence is too. It will always seem excessive until it virtually stops. Cuban got some very hefty fines before the fining largely stopped. It's all about presenting a family product isn't it? You want to see a fine? Wait until somebody punches out a ref. Although some of you might contribute if the ref was Violet Palmer.

Did anyone expect his agent to say anything besides that?

He only received 3 games for the throwing the "slap". The other 12 games was for being a p---y and back pedaling.

wow. comparing melo hitting a player to artest going into the stands and hitting a fan?

melos suspension was excessive in that before that the longest suspension for a player hitting another was around 6. suddenly for that hit (which wasnt that hard) it goes up 250%? heh.

oneal ended up with the same after hitting a fan. something is not right there.

Artest got the season that's together with the play-offs well over 5 times as much as Melo got, so there's no comparison there.

JO decked a fan who together with his friend came on court and made threatening gestures to teammates, his reaction may have been excessive but, considering the very hostile environment, very understandable.

    Was Melo's reaction "understandable"?

I think the penalties in this latest flick were tough, but fair.

The violence isn't escalating. In fact, if anything, it's less than it was 20 years ago. The NBA has a history of fights on the court, and prior to Ron, it wasn't that big of a deal. Look at the Heat-Knicks fights of the '90s. Guys were often throwing haymakers at each other in bench-clearing incidents, and that usually only resulted in 3-5 games, with most guys getting a single game.

And this incident is nothing compared to some of the near-riot incidents I've heard about from the ABA days.

I agree. Not to mention that Turtle was also a fan...not a player who had instigated the whole thing. I hope this doesn't cost Melo his first all-star bid. It is long overdue.

Disagree. Just as players should not be going into the stands, fans also should never come into the court at circumstances as these. IF they do then the players have the right to defend themselver or their teammates.

Comparing Ron going into the stands is nothing alike JO decking a fan whose come onto the court looking for a fight/trouble.

The fact that "turtle" is/was a fan is irrelevant IMO to the role he was playing that night.

Oh, I'm with you 110% but to Stern there is a big difference. He doesn't care about the players nearly as much the fans. (Employees vs. Customers). That's why this an excessive punishment for Melo, not befitting Stern's MO.

Melo got what he deserved, Period!

That whole on court situation was all but defused when Carmello went out there and sucker slapped someone then ran like a little sissy. That is why he got 15 games! The slap was bad, but doing it when the situation was nearly under control was the "nail in Melo's cauffin", or the 9 games added to what his suspension likely would have been if he was involved from the time Collins made the initial foul.

Melo should have gotten 5 games for the punch, and 10 games extra for running away like a girl afterwords.

So yeah, I think he got what he deserved.

You got it all wrong...Melo should have gotten 3 games for attacking a fellow player. Then 4 games for running for the fact that his "punch" was closer to a *****slap. Then 4 games for running away from the tiniest player in the NBA. And finally 4 games for running away from the skinniest player in the NBA.

    It's only fair.
