Default Pacers DVD set coming Spring 2007 - The Results Are In

I was just browsing Pacers.com, and I saw this ad:

I clicked on it, and came up to this page:

    http://www.nba.com/webAction?actionI...&surveyId=1361

Please note that it looks like you must log in with an nba.com account to vote.

You can help decide the greatest games in Pacers NBA history to be featured in a DVD Box Set to be released in the Spring of 2007! Just register below and select the four most memorable games you want to be included in this set, to be produced by Warner Home Video, Inc. After casting your ballot, you will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of 10 of these special sets!

    Here are the choices:

    THE GAMES

    April 29, 1987

NBA Rookie of the Year Chuck Person scores 23 points with 17 rebounds and seven assists to carry the Pacers to a 96-87 victory over Dominique Wilkins and the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of a first-round series, the first NBA postseason victory in franchise history.

    April 28, 1994

Byron Scott's jumper, the shot that started it all, completes a comeback from a 17-point deficit to beat heavily favored Orlando in Game 1 of the first round matchup, propelling the Pacers to their first NBA playoff series victory.

    June 1, 1994

Reggie Miller scores 25 points in the fourth quarter against the Knicks in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals to lift the Pacers to a 93-86 victory in Madison Square Garden and a 3-2 series lead.

    May 7, 1995

Reggie Miller scores eight points in the final 8.9 seconds to rock the Garden and shock the Knicks, 107-105, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

    May 29, 1995

Rik Smits' last-second jumper, dubbed the "Memorial Day Miracle," caps an astonishing back-and-forth finish as the Pacers stun Orlando 94-93 to win Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

    May 25, 1998

Reggie Miller beats Michael Jordan for a game-winning 3-pointer as the Pacers beat the Bulls 96-94 to tie the Eastern Conference Finals at 2-2.

    May 4, 2000

Dale Davis' offensive rebound leads to Travis Best's game-winner as the Pacers stave off first-round elimination to beat Milwaukee 96-95, beginning their run to the NBA Finals.

    June 2, 2000

Finally breaking through against their most bitter rivals, the Pacers beat New York 93-80 to close out the Eastern Conference Finals and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.

    June 16, 2000

Jalen Rose scores 32 and Reggie Miller 25 as the Pacers blow out the mighty Lakers 120-87 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Conseco Fieldhouse.

    May 2, 2002

Reggie Miller's 39-foot turnaround jumper forces the first overtime, and then his dunk forces the second as the Pacers push the top-seeded Nets to double-overtime in Game 5 of a first-round series.

My HOPE is that we're helping pick 4 of EIGHT games to be included on this set (I'm hoping it's 4 2-sided discs, leaving plenty of room for 8 games). Because while I really want the ones I picked, I want a few others as well.

My picks were the 3 2000 Playoffs games and Reggie's 2002 Nets game. Do I necessarily feel those are the top 4 games listed? No, but there ones I've always wanted to own, and they relate to my most vibrate memories of the team (due to age). Plus, I now have the 1998 "Reggie over Jordan 3" game on my DVR, so I no longer have to hunt/wish for that one.

I expect the winners to be the 1994 and 1995 Reggie vs. Knicks games, Smits' Orlando 1995 game, and the 1998 game.

Frankly I want a set with ALL of these games.

Peck's gonna have a fit when he sees they referred to the Milwaukee game as the Travis Best game.

My problem is they referred to the Finals blowout as the Jalen Rose game. Everybody knows the real Jalen Rose game was game 1 against Philly that year, when both he and Reggie had 40, and he had a fit because no one was chanting for him.

As for what I'd like to see, I'd only take the Travis/Dale game from 2000. While the other two may have been emotionally satisfying, they weren't very good.

I'd also take Byron and Rik. As for #4, can't say I'm terribly interested in most of the Reggie games, since they're repeated quite a bit on NBATV. The Dale/Travis game really is a Reggie game, anyway. The Nets game would be great, but what's the point of having a game you lose? Maybe I can write-in for game 3 against Orlando, you know, the one the great Satan won for us.

Yeah, it's actually silly to vote I think because there is no way (other than a hack cheat) that it doesn't go this way.

Personally I don't have the game 5 2000 on tape and would love to see it again. I'd also pick the Scott game just because it was a turning point.

The other classic home playoff win I'd love to see again is game 4 vs Boston in 1992 that took it to a 5th game, but that's not in the vote. I have to look to see if I have the double 40 vs Philly on tape. I haven't gone through the VHS stuff in awhile. If I don't have it I'd like to get it too.

I would very much like to get almost all the games mentioned in this thread. I don't have very many games saved, so I will definitely be buying the dvd set...

It would be interesting to start a little group of people who have games that are willing to make copies of them....I guess I do have some games from last year still on my DVR, and I have the Reggie Miller Beyond the Glory on dvd...I would be willing to throw the first hat in the ring...Anybody who would want that or the other games I have (anyone interested, let me know and I will inventory what I have), let me know and we can work out details for sharing!

Sorry if I hijacked the thread, I would like to see all the Knick games, the Byron Scott game, and the Reggie beating Jordan game on the dvd set!

I think there are three no-brainers.

    The Smits happens game
Reggie 25 points in the 4th quarter game
    Reggie beats Michael game

Reggie's 8 points in 9 second game is really not a good game at all, a very boring game until the last 19 seconds, so I hope they pick another game. Maybe they could just show the last 19 seconds of that game and pick another game. That is what I'd vote for. Besides Bill Walton does that game and who wants him on a DVD you'll have for 40 years

Here are some of the other sets they've done so far:

Bulls - 6 full games on 4 discs
    http://www.sportsposterwarehouse.com...ulls90sdvd.htm

    76ers - 4 full games on 6 discs
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=16155

Lakers - 9 full games on 5 discs
    http://www.amazon.com/NBA-Dynasty-An...145683-8817751

Knicks - 8 full games on 5 discs
    http://www.amazon.com/NBA-Dynasty-Kn...145683-8817751

There's a Celtics one too, but these are all part of the "NBA Dynasty Series" (not sure why 76ers are a dynasty, but whatever). But I'm guessing they are just following a similar format but changing it to the "Collector's Series" instead. I thought the Pistons and Rockets already had there's out too, but didn't seem to find it.

Anyway....You know they're putting all three Reggie games in there. Then, I'm guessing they're giving us the 2000 Finals game, just cause it's the only time we got there. I would love to see a full ABA game as well, but that's probably not happening. Oh well. It's nice to see how high we rank though, in the sense that we're one of the first franchises to get one of these after all the major players are out of the way. Probably has something to do with the fact that the League knows we're a bunch of suckers that will shell out $50 for this too, though.

That would be fantastic and considering all the interviews they've been running on FSN about the ABA teams it shouldn't be too hard to include some supplemental material as well.

I agree....I would buy the ABA dvd in a second. I doubt we will ever see it though.

Its an utter shame that Game #4 in 1991 is not even on the ballot. Greatest NBA game ever played in MSA. We've all seen Game #5 of that series hundreds of times, but the bad guys win that game.

I know this game won't and shouldn't be included, but I wouldn't mind seeing a replay of the November 20, 2004 game against the Magic (night after the brawl). Sure we lost the game, but that was a Pacers team worth being proud of.

    I voted for these 4:

    Reggie Miller: June 1, 1994
    Rik Smits: May 29, 1995
    Reggie Miller: May 25, 1998
Pacers Over Knicks: June 2, 2000

It was hard not to vote for Chuck's big game against Dominique, my first NBA playoff game.

    I feel betrayed.

Maybe we can get a four-DVD set of Chuck's best games - the entire Boston series, Game #3 in '87, the 46-point game as a rookie, the night where Chuck, Reggie, and Detlef lit up Jordan and Pippen for over 100 points combined (at one point in time Reggie referred to this as "The game I'll never forget" in Basketball Digest). Chuck's forty-foot game winner against Milwaukee as a rookie.

I'd also like the postgame interview from Phoenix, circa 1989 or 1990, where Slick was trying to interview Chuck and Reggie and Chuck kept yelling, "Boom, Baby!"

Funny how those early-90s Pacers teams were also 0.500 teams, but at least the players/ teams were very likeable. Unlike the current 0.500-caliber Pacers team.

Man, I hope they will have plenty of extras for each game like a lot of interviews, press-conferences, etc. Really looking forward to it.
As for my choices: Byron Scott game (turning point for franchise), Smits game (soemthing like 5 lead changes in the last 20 seconds), the Jordan game (a must have), the Travis/Dale Game (otherwise we hadn't reached the Finals plus I only listened to the game on radio) and the Miller 25 points in 1 Quarter Game (Reggie's breakthru game). Damn, that's 5, can't we have five games?

I would love to re-live Reggie's career night versus the Hornets when he scored 57 points. I'm disappointed that's not even a choice.

    The results are in:

    http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/great...d_results.html

It appears these are the only four games to be on the DVD (and they were the top four vote getters):

    1. May 7, 1995 (80 percent) – Miller scores eight points in the final 8.9 seconds to rock Madison Square Garden and shock the Knicks, 107-105, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

    2. May 25, 1998 (75 percent) – Miller beats Michael Jordan for a game-winning 3-pointer as the Pacers beat the Bulls 96-94 to tie the Eastern Conference Finals at 2-2.

    3. June 1, 1994 (67 percent) – Miller scores 25 points in the fourth quarter against the Knicks in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals to lift the Pacers to a 93-86 victory in Madison Square Garden and a 3-2 series lead.

    4. June 2, 2000 (44 percent) – Finally breaking through against their most bitter rivals, the Pacers beat New York 93-80 to close out the Eastern Conference Finals and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.
I've never seen the #1 game in its entirety, but I've read that the game wasn't that great except for the ending, so I'm disappointed about that one. Actually the 1998 game isn't that good aside from the ending either. It's nice to be able to see the whole 4th quarter of #3 however. I'm happy to see #4 too (Game 6 vs. Knicks 2000).

It is a travesty that the Smits happens game isn't on the list. That was the best Pacers playoff game I've ever seen and I've seen them all. Who wouldn't want to watch Shaq go 0 for 8 from the free throw line.

Agreed. That is probably my most memorable playoff game. I was in a restaurant at the time and actually ran outside yelling like a madman when he hit that shot.

One thing I will say about the Reggie Miller 8 points in the final 17 seconds. It is fun to hear Bills Walton say how bad the Pacers played and how the game was over - he was talking about how they might be able to recover the next game. That part is fun - but the game was just not a very good one.

I'm just trying to think who the announcers were for these 4 games.

    1) Bill Walton and Tom Hammonds (Snapper didn't do this game) NBC

    2) NBC - Bob Costas, Isiah Thomas and Doug Collins. This is certainly a worthy game

    3) Marv and Matt Guokas - NBC. I can still hear Matt say "Look at this shot" when Reggie takes that one from about 30 feet out. This is a great game, seeing Tank steal the ball 3 times from Patrick Ewing - classic. But then seeing Kenny Williams take a shot when he should have passed to Reggie, I still remember screaming at my TV

    4) NBC - Bill Walton and Steve Snapper Jones with Tom Hammond - this was a good game but not worthy to be on this list. Although peck will love it because Dale Davis has a great game to cap off his greatest playoff series ever. He was the reason why the Pacers won this series, he dominated the Knicks.

I wish they would put every Pacers playoff game on DVD starting in 1994 and running through game 6 at LA in 2000.

Add me to the agree list.

The 8.9 is a classic memory and an incredible moment, but for quality of game drama I think the Smits game tops them all simply because it includes 3 other "game winners".

Actually you'd want to go back and get that great 5 game series with Boston on there too. Game 4 in MSA is one of the biggest wins the team ever had, even though later it would look relatively small. At the time it was their biggest and MSA was rocking about as much as it ever did.

I'd also still enjoy that rough 4 game series with the Knicks if for no other reason than to see the Detlef-Ewing fight that got them both ejected.

One thing about the 2000 game, it's one I actually attended so it will be good to relive it. I thought I taped it but I can't find anything after 99 at this point.

I feel the same way. The Smits happens final, final shot was glorious. I'm going to have to find a copy of that game some other way.

The Smits game isn't a great Pacers game, or a great basketball game, it's a great game period. The Knicks 2000 game isn't even the best game from that series. n:
