Default Los Angeles' Pop Culture Accu-Doppler Radar

I can't get enough of this channel.

There's a BMX show on right now with a spill reel. I'm shouting at the TV, covering my eyes, flinching, the works. The combination of athleticism and creativity is what draws me to action sports. I can't get enough.

No, it's national. It's a sports channel dedicated to skate boarding, surfing, wakeboarding, skiing, snowboarding, BMX, motocross, and anything else that fits the "action sports" mold. Hugely entertaining. DirecTV channel 612.

I've got lots of random musings to post, so I'll just change the thread title and post everything in here.

Next thought: Anyone heard of Lily Allen? My goodness, that cocney accent and songs about the London bar scene. H-O-T.

Fall in love with her now because you'll be sick of her in a year.

    Yeah, yea 103.1.

First time I heard Smile I didn't like it then somewhere along the way I found my self instictively reaching to turn it up. My guess in the next months I'll be back to hating it.

Little known fact: Indie 103.1 steals a lot of its playlist off of Sirius Channel 26 "Left of Center". My client in Dallas had Sirius and I listened to Lily Allen all summer, then I come home and it takes 2 months for Indie 103.1 to play her. Other notable "steals" - Placebo, Late 80's Depeche Mode, Camera Obscura, Ladytron.

I miss Left of Center, but I'm glad I get to hear whatever they are playing 2 months later on Indie.

I'm glad someone stole Placebo they've been a great band for a while. Without you I'm Nothing is a great album.

Another random thought. Please oh please may the "Utility Kilt" trend die before going national.

You know, I'm willing to give a free pass to just about any fashion out there. Mohawks, Ugg Boots, whatever.

But here in LA the big thing for men are these designer T-Shirts with big off-center intricate screen prints. I'm fine with that, too. In fact, some of the T-shirts are totally cool.

Where do I draw the line (besides with utility kilts)? When the T-shirts have friggin glittery rhinestones on them. Men, be men. Some things should stay at the Women's section at K-mart and that includes rhinestone encrusted T-shirts.

Anyone see this girl on SNL this week?

Another Platinum selling Brit that I'd like to ****: Amy Winehouse. Song: Rehab.

Which one? Lily Allen or Amy Winehouse? EDIT: Nevermind, I don't think Amy Winehouse is capable of smiling.

Lily Allen is promoting the American release of her album. If you would have taken my advice months ago, you could have enjoyed some great music before the hype.

It's not her promoting that I care about. It's the fact that I can't go to the gym without her ******* song playing on the ******* radio at least 6 times an hour.

Which song are they playing? Smile? OK, now your original post makes more sense. You seriously need better radio stations on the east coast if they are playing the same song more than twice a day.

Oh my god ... speaking of the radio, I'm listening to Indie 103.1 and the DJ came on and said that the band Fall Out Boy just showed up in the lobby unannounced.

"I don't know what to do with that. They aren't scheduled. Call in and tell me what to do."

People have been calling and tearing the band a new one. "You should tell them to go to KROC ... and tell them to stop making music."

DJ: "Maybe I shold give them a t-shirt or something"

Fan: "Don't let them on the air! They SUCK!!!"

I can only imagine the humiliation of waiting in a radio station's lobby, hoping to be invited into the sound room, and then hearing callers dis you while the DJ refuses to let you in.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK 101.7 FM BOSTON AND THE BOSTON SPORTS CLUB RADIO FEED FOR EACH DECIDING TO PLAY, SIMULTANEOUSLY, LILY ALLEN'S "SMILE" AT 2:37 PM EST TODAY.

Seriously, stream indie 103.1 - it's free from itunes radio (in the alternative section).

Nobody should have to deal with that.

Eh, my MP3 player is about 7 years old and won't play anything but the radio anymore.....and even that has poor reception on everything but two stations inside the gym. So I'm usually at the mercy of some inane pop-loving DJ or whatever songs have been sold to the BSC that month while working out.

I saw Lily Allen's CD for 7 dollars at Target and thought of btown.

Other bands you have to listen to right now: Silver Sun Pickups, Morning Wood, Brazillian Girls.

Don't know what it is with me and female rock singers lately.

Maybe CobolSam is right about my "misogyny". Or maybe I like the sensibility that these talented women bring to the rock world.
