Stromile Swift, F to FC
I would have posted this position change much sooner but was waiting for Stro to get healthy enough to play. Will see minutes at both PF and C just has he always has throughout his career, especially with injuries to Gasol and Jake Tsakalidis, but will continue to see time at both spots even when they come back. Will contend with Tsakalidis to be the full-time starting center during the season.

Defense concerns Fratello
By Ronald Tillery, Memphis Commercial Appeal
October 20, 2006
- There is solace in the return of Stromile Swift, who is expected to make his preseason debut tonight after sitting out the first four exhibition games with a sore knee.
The 6-9 forward/center can patrol the lane like no one did a year ago. Memphis collected its blocks by attacking from an opponent's blind side. No one emerged as a force that would alter shots at the rim.
"From the outside looking in, I could see that as well," Swift said. "I'm looking forward to bring that back to the table. Even if I don't block a lot of shots, being able to change shots means a lot."
Swift's length and mobility doesn't add up to an imposing figure. But he can effectively anchor the defense, especially if the Griz intend pressure and trap on the perimeter.
"He's a major eraser of mistakes," Fratello said of Swift. "He gives us a shot-blocking presence in the lane. He can save you from a layup or short jumper in the lane. He's going to be very important for us. But we're going to need everybody playing well on that end of the floor if we're going to be any good."
Memphis Grizzlies 2006-2007 Preview
By Warren Blatt, The Sports Network
- The 6-9 Swift spent the first five years of his career with the Grizzlies and returns after one season with the Rockets. Swift averaged 8.9 points and 4.4 boards in 66 outings for Houston. He will be expected to earn his money down low and will most likely split time in the middle with Jake Tsakalidis while Gasol heals.
