It may still be a little early to do this, but at least we have seen the guys play. So who do you think will make the Pacers 15 man roster now?

This has been so talked about, but here are some options, I have know answers, I've looked and looked, nothing.

It comes down to trying to keep Marshall, Snap Lampley and Edwards are gone. Powell is kept as well as Greene. Carlise has called Greene the teams best on the ball defender, Powell a young big guy who should be a rotation player on this team. Can we take this all as a given?

Think about this, I think at this point that Powell is probably the 3rd best all around 4 or 5 on the team, right now! Where's my jump to conclusion mat?

    Options, realistic or not.

1.) Cut Marshall-tough to cut a young scorer who can get his own shot. He'll be claimed of waivers in 5 mins, I would guess.

2.) Trade 2:1, easy to say, very hard to do, especially now when everyone is undefeated.

3.) Buy out a player you think may not play or are to limited and do not have the upside you had thought. I'll get creamed for this, but you could buy out Saras or Harrison and I really really don't think you would notice by Allstar break they weren't here....but you really have to think about giving up on either of those two, just for Marshall. I'm not trying to start trouble just thinking of almost all possible options.

4.) Cut/buyout Baston, they won't, it would be admitting a mistake.

5.) Make Armstrong an assistant (he retires- Would he still be effective REDBULL not being on the court? Quite frankly, I would guess he won't dress until Tinsley is injured, oh wait.

Feel free to add to this...

We've got, what, $10 million tied up in dead weight in our backcourt.

$6 million for SJax. $4 million for Saras.

I'd find a way to dump those two via trade (yes, you're gonna have to throw in Foster to make it acceptable to the other team.)

We need a three-for-one trade for someone like Steve Francis. We'll take his horrible contract in exchange for our garbage plus a "sweetner" in Foster.

Couldn't agree with you more, but this move doesn't seem likely. I mean, I know Isiah is foolish, but he ain't crazy!

    Cut Lampley, Snap and Edwards.

Find a trade for either Saras, Jax or Tins. The Pacers one drawback (on the court) is the back court. Their front court is one of the best in the East.

We cannot afford to trade Foster or Harrison without getting back someone that can defend the post. That would be dumb!

I think we will probably make a minor trade to free up some room, or someone unexpected like Baston will get cut.

At this point to trade them, i think you have to take like Darius Miles or some poison pill contract, like a Penny hardaway type deal. No one will deal for percieved problem players unless you take terrible longer contracts back or more of a problem player. So I don't think an argument can be made to trade Jax or Tins.

YOu can't cut guys, unless you buy them out. Are they going to give Jax 26 million and Tinsley like 30 million for them to go play for another team, no.

What is Walsh's history when it comes to making trades this last-minute before the start of the season? That's not to mention the fact that how many other GM's out there are willing to do the same?

I'd love for a trade at this point, because these young guys have really impressed me so far; but I just don't think it's realistic at this point based on history.

Schrempf for McKey comes to mind immediately.

But is that the only one?

Walsh's history doesn't matter. It should be obvious by now to everyone that Bird is in charge of picking the players.

I'm ready to see another preseason game where we see Powell, Harrington, Maceo, Marshall, et al (I realize Greene is out) and no JO. I want to see how these guys play, and the offense, without him one more time.

I said the other day I'd cut Armstrong because he's not part of the future but that appears to be cutting our best PG for this season.

I'm not sure we need the distraction of Sjax even if he is playing this season to showcase him for a later trade. Tinsley... blah.

This season, in my mind, is a transition year. Transitioning us from the team we were, and where that was heading, into the starting of something different. So I'm still back to wondering if we should keep Armstrong over some players that potentially could stick around longer. But based on his play on the court he's making that hard. I'm not sure we should try and patch up and put bandaids on this team and nurse it to the playoffs tho. What does that get us in the long run?

And never would there be a better chance to miss the playoffs and have the fans understand than if we unloaded at least 1 of the public enemies ASAP. ...And hopefully another before the deadline in a bit better team trade for the team.

Anyone want Sjax, Tinsley, and Foster as the sweetner?

Edwards being cut should be a no-brainer and I have to wonder what he's still around for except he might be potential trade fodder to make salaries work.
But never underestimate Walsh's love for a 7'er on the bench that will never play.

Lampley would have to be a no-brainer cut as well.

If it was me there would be a 2-1 (if not 3-1) trade of some kind I'd be looking for that would get us rid of public enemy #1. Sjax has clearly pulled ahead of Tinsley in that regard (Sjax=Public Enemy #1). And I think Foster could be the sweetener. I'd consider Harrison in Foster's place in the trade (tho I have to wonder where Harrison would be had we lived with his issues last season and brought in a big man coach for him).

If you could move Tins AND Sjax I'd be very happy.

And this assumes our lawyers have decided we can't just void Sjax' contract. ...because if they have said we have a leg to stand on there then that is the road I'd look to travel first.

Q: What are Rawle Marshall’s chances of making the roster at this point?
Carlisle: Rawle Marshall is certainly playing well. He was a throw-in on the deal for Anthony Johnson for Darryl Armstrong, Josh Powell, and Rawle was the third guy in the deal. I guess not a lot was expected but we knew he was a young player that was a good prospect but he’s played well here. He’s averaging double figures the first three games, not that that is that significant, but he’s played steadily and he’s got a great chance if he keeps playing well.

Why not just cut Sarunas? He has said hes not happy here or at least hinted at it. DA has played well as has Greene. We can cut Sarunas and free up a roster spot for Marshall. While not affecting our salary cap because this is the last year of Runi's contract anyway I believe, and if it isn't I'd rather keep Marshall and bite the 4 million dollar bullet rather than having dead weight on the roster.

KEEP Marshall and Powell! Cut Lampley, Edwards (Buy OUT?), and Snap. Send Shawne to the D League. Give Sarunus a little more time, but I see him on the bench soon and either trade or do a deal to send him back to Europe.

If we send someone to the d league they still count towards the 15 man roster.

You know, what really impressed me about Marshall and Powell was that from what I saw, they were making their freethrows. Almost all of them.

Since this is a prediction thread, I'll say:

    Lampley
    Hunter
    Edwards

with a trade of one of our big bench guys (Foster, Harrison) for a draft pick.

One, it's his job. Two, we are keeping people that Walsh would have already got rid of.

Three, when Walsh sees he's made a mistake he trys to correct it. (Trading Mark Jackson to Denver and then getting him back.) Bird seems to want to pound square pegs into round holes. (Saras)

He signed for three years. He does have an option for next season though and right now I think he's unhappy enough to use it.

Other teams have made their cuts already. Are we holding off on making cuts and playing guys major minutes to showcase them from a trade? I really thought that the cuts would have been made by this afternoon at the latest. The other answer is that small injuries are allowing the Pacers to get longer looks at guys than they would otherwise because the PT is there. Anyway, I think that if there are no trades the cuts will be:

    1) Edwards
    2) Snap (betcha he goes to camp somewhere else next year)
    3) Lampley
    4) One of the PGs

I, like everyone else here, had to think about number four for some time. However, the Pacers are really acting like a team that is showcasing players to set up a trade.

Cut Edwards, Lampley, and Baston. Trade Tinsley for Danny Fortson and then cut him. That gives the pacers 4 PG with the added feature that White or Daniels can also play point. As long as Tinsley is on the team the PG position will always be a problem due to either health issues or ability. Tinsley is not made for contact sports.

As it stands, #4 is no doubt a difficult decision. I really doubt they will cut Saras and eat millions. The ticket out of this mess is a trade. I agree they are showcasing and planning a trade because the cuts would have come by now. JMO.
