    Default Important League Question

I just heard back from two ABA veterans. Both Boston Connection & Kraft are long time, well respected & talented members of our forum as well as, this league.

Both were a little late in contacting me about returning to our league & both would like to join us for the upcoming season.

Since this is your league & changing the number of teams is a major league issue, I'll leave it up to you.

Also, I feel I should mention this. Everyone in this league was either selected with league approval or ask by me to join. I am not asking anyone to consider stepping aside to free up a spot for either BC or Kraft. The reason you were ask to join in the first place is due to your posting talent as well as your knowledge of the game.

I'd only consider the possibilty of adding two players, not replacing two that we have.

    Thanks

    Sure, why not?

(Although I don't really understand why this would be a major issue)

    hmmmm....

Ridiculously huge league? or Ridiculously huge league + 2?

May as well let em in. I'm getting pretty excited about picking Brian Scalabrine in the 7th round.

We could go all the way to 30 and mirror the real NBA and be done with it. I imagine it's already hard enough filling minutes as it is and adding a few more players wouldn't make much difference either way.

The size of the league is where the challenge is, and I look forward to meeting that challenge.

I don't have any problem with those 2 being added, but the number of teams at 26 is a little iffy to me.

I always thought with 24 teams, it makes the talent to pick from extremely watered down after about the 6th round, which does make it entertaining, and challenging to find diamond in the rough picks, but also leaves you with guys like Jamison Brewer, and Pavel Podkolzin to pick from as your 9th-10th roster spots.

Plus adding 2 more teams would also make where you draft even more important, and can also really hurt you.

I think last year I drafted dead last in the 1st round, which does allow you to pick twice in a row with the 1st pick of the 2nd round, but I felt like that hurt me, because the players available at my first pick were average players for a 1st round pick, whereas most players get a solid, all-star level player, that can put up good fantasy numbers.

But, with 26 teams, we might have to pick guys like Brian Scalabrine in the 5th round as a starting C.

I kinda feel like some might be voting on whether they would have a problem with those members specifically being in the league, and not thinking about the number of teams, and how it will affect the talent pool, especially those that haven't played this style of fantasy site before.

Just something to think about, I know you aren't looking to replace any players, but if it comes down to it, I can offer up my spot to allow respected veterans of the league to play.

Burnzine: I have the last year played in a 29 team keepr league, and must say it is brilliant, you know what ? you have to emulate a real GM, you have to find the talent, make the smart trades and have some good time management and take care of injured players, be active on the waver wire, etc etc.

I know it does not make for easy gaming, but in all honesty, where's the fun in having KG and JO on your team?

I agree, part of the fun in leagues like that is finding hidden gems, and making good trades, etc., but I don't feel like anywhere in my above post did I say anything that should have made it seem like I was looking to be able to pick the likes of J.O., and K.G. on my team.

I just would like to have a chance to even get one guy like J.O., T.D., or K.G., but if you get a bad draft position, and get the very last pick, it makes it to where you don't have much chance to get a solid 1.5+ FPPM guy, and makes for a long season with a bunch of average players on your squad.

I don't have a problem with it, I am just going on past experience in fantasy leagues, namely this one, and thinking about how watered down the talent gets after the 6th-7th round with so many teams, and how it sucks when your starting 5 aren't even all starters on their teams.

Either way, it's not my league, and not my decision, just trying to give another viewpoint to think about.

Well this is a "good new", "bad news" post if there ever was one.

The good news is that this crazy poll is now irrelevant. We will remain a 24 team league.

The bad news is that one of the better posters to come along this summer has ask to be removed from the league. Aero has stepped down feeling he might not be competitive.

Replacing Aero will be my long time arch-nemesis, Boston Connection.

    Thanks

I don't mind 25 or 26 teams at all. It means you have to think who you chose on your team and try to make smart trades. Like Able wrote: "where's the fun in having KG and JO on your team?" .

I understand both Able's as well as Burnzone's points.

I was in a 28 team last season & it is a major challenge. It's great for those that spend a lot of time doing this.

But as Burnzone mentioned, chances are, if you don't have a top pick you're going to have a hard time advancing in the playoffs.

That's where research into middle & late round draft picks is so important.

Once again I get to be the Darth Vader to your Luke Skywalker, the Dr. Evil to your Austin Powers, the Lex Luthor to your Superman, the Snidely Whiplash to your Dudley Do-Right (sorry if the last reference is a little obscure to those of you 'young-uns', but you get the picture... )

I'm with burnzone on this one. Love to have the gentlemen mentioned, but it's the size that troubles me (as much as a fantasy internet basketball game can trouble anyone, that is).

Of course, I'm one of those suckers who's crappy at knowing what to do with the Brian Scalabrine's of the NBA in a fantasy setting, so that's my problem.

Just imagine being Danny Ainge, and having signed him to your team for a multi-year contract for real...

Here's the thing I'm concerned about...in a big league like this, a lot of teams are not gonna be anywhere near contention, and it's tough to keep owner interest up.

We definitely need to give teams at the bottom free agent priority so that owners at the bottom have something to look forward to. What do you guys think?

edit: Actually, I just realized that with so many teams, free agent pickings will be slim. You aren't gonna find any Boris Diaw's on the waiver wire in a league like this. It's all about the draft.

Actually that is the way its set up.

When a player goes on waivers the team with the worse record has first dibs on the player.

The draft is important but there are always players avialable on the waiver wire or in the free agent pool that can help a team.
