    Any luck with New Egg?

This sounds like they screwed us something pretty bad.

So even if you choose the single CD, you don't boot from your CD drive? Then you'll have to manually change the boot sequence.

When the Toshiba script shows up on the display, press Esc. You'll get a "press the F1 key to continue" message. Press the F1 key and you should be in the BIOS. Look for "boot sequence" and make sure CD boots first.

They told me I need to contact the manufacturer. Which makes sense, I guess.

Shade, I'm getting ready to go to bed. Did changing the boot order work?

I haven't tried it yet. But I will tomorrow.

With my luck, it wouldn't surprise me if the damn disc doesn't work.

New Egg will usually send you a replacement within the first 30 days. Tell them that you contacted the Manufacturer and they were no help.

I have found New Egg to be VERY helpful and willing. I had the screen crack on a PDA about a year ago in the first week of having it. After 2 days of the manufacturer running me through hoops, I called New Egg and then offered immediately to send a new one (free shipping) and a box to ship them the broken.

I have used them for years and my only experience with a defect was about as stressless as possible.

    Maybe try that?

Anthem - Same thing. I'm starting to think either the drive or the disc are bad.

BayouPacer - I keep getting pinballed between Newegg and Toshiba. Apparently, there was supposed to be a recovery disc and application included, but there wasn't.

Woo! After calling Newegg and Toshiba back and forth, I finally got a competent Toshiba rep! Turns out my computer has an internal recovery system, which he told me how to access, and it worked!

A guy buys a new laptop and is trying to start school and change his life and it's all flocked up.

    $10 disk or $25 disk...

    sigh

    something will go wrong.

Maybe it's just not your decade.

    Sucks.

Guess what? It's broken again. This time it looks like the hard drive is messed up. I can either send it in and wait about 2 weeks to get it back, or take it to a local rep, which just happens to only be open when I'm at work or in school.

Skip class. It's early in the semester; it won't kill you.

I would, but I already missed two classes last week due to a funeral.

    (It's been a bad week.)

    No, brand new.

I can MAYBE get over there and drop it off before class tomorrow. It'll be close.

Cows, horses, buggies, and black hats never have to be rebooted and generally don't require tech support.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

So, I dropped off my laptop Monday morning (I skipped class) to get fixed, and get the call today that it's fixed. I go to pick it up and -- surprise! -- they lost my friggin' power cable.

After looking for about 10 minutes, the guy said he would give me a loaner and they would call me when they found it, which -- surprise! -- they did the MINUTE I got home (I live about half an hour from the place).

And, to top it all off, it STILL doesn't ****ing work. The cable appears to be incompatible, and I need to install the recovery discs which the computer didn't even come with. The internal recovery no longer works for whatever reason, either.

I am sooooo ****ing pissed that NOTHING ever goes right for me. It's so absurd it's comical.

So, the rep apparently forgot to copy over the internal recovery partition to the new harddrive, which is why it doesn't work.

It'll take 5-7 days to get a recovery disc.

    This is RIDICULOUS.
