Default ROT IN HELL, TOSHIBA AND NEWEGG!!!

I just got my laptop, and it's already screwed up. Whever I try to boot up, it says "The system is not fully installed. Please run setup again." or "INVALID BOOT.INI FILE" and reboots. It's an endless cylcle.

Is there any way to fix this other than having to send the damn thing back?

You should probably give it up with electronics and get you a good book.

I am sure others will have technical advice, but honestly I have gone through stretces in my life where I just have no luck with electronics, so I do feel your pain.

What I would do, and take it for FWIW, is just send it back and wait for them to repair it. If you are lucky it will just be some stupid software problem, but worst case you are still under warrenty and you have the wait the full 30 days or whatever it is

I read it, but I don't understand it. How can I upload anything to the notebook if it constantly loops itself?

The thing that really sucks about that is having to wait another week or more (I really needed this thing NOW for school) and having to pay for shipping.

    You're at IU, right?

Do you have a Windows install disk? If not, you can probably get one for $10. Install the operating system from scratch. You'll be a lot better off... you'll get rid of all the crap Dell bundles.

I'm at IUPUI. I bought an XP disk a couple years ago but I can't find it. I don't think they'll let me buy another.

    And I got a Toshiba.

    1. IUPUI is good enough.
    2. You can buy one per year.
    3. Same difference.

They say once a year but you can really do it as many times as you want. They don't go through and check to make sure, that's what they say at IU and IUPUI's bookstores. I always end up buying a new one because I keep losing them.

You need to get your hands on an XP install disc, and then format (which is the term used for essentially wiping it clean) the hard drive. Once you do that, you should be able to start from scratch with installing windows.

But if you're not comfortable with that, who did you buy it from? They should have tech support. Since you just got it, they have no excuse for not being able to help you.

Other than that, find the nearest person you know that's really comfortable with working on computers and let him help.

While installing the operating system, keep your system disconnected from the internet. Once you're up and running, connect to the internet and install AVG antivirus as soon as possible. Next, connect to www.windowsupdate.com and get al windows updates. Finally, install this stuff.

    Firefox (with adblock)
    Ad-Aware
    Spybot Search & Destroy
    iTunes
    Adobe Acrobat Reader
    Adobe Flash Player

I think it costs me $25 or so for a new XP disc from school. I'll try to pick one up tomorrow.

In the meantime, I e-mailed newegg.com about the problem and asked what can be done.

I just looked it up. $10 for the XP disc by itself, and $25 for the disk with the Office programs. I'll probably opt for the latter.

You can download office for free on iuware.iu.edu with your username and password. I don't think the office one has XP on it.

Damn it! Wish I'd have seen that before purchasing it just now.

It does have XP in it, but I still can't get it to load. I keep getting the errors before given the option to load the XP OS.

Hit f12 before XP tries to load. It should give you the option to change where to boot from. Then try to boot from the CD drive(directly from the XP boot disk.

Then you want to format the harddrive and start over just following through the prompts.

When the computer first boots up, the Toshiba screen comes up with 5 different icons underneath. The first shows three CDs stacked on top of each other, the second shows a single CD, the third shows a floppy disk, the fourth is two computers connecting, and the last looks like a flash drive. When I hit F12 a few times, it highlights under the first icon and allows me to choose one. However, no matter which icon I choose, it automatically takes me to the black (DOS?) screen with the INVALIDBOOT.INI FILE error, and goes into Windows, where it displays the "The system is not fully installed. Please run setup again." error, and then resets the computer.
