    Default Zisis sues Varejao

The unfortunate player of Benetton Treviso, Nikos Zisis (195-G-83) after counseled his lawyers decided that he is going to take a legal action against the Brazilian NBAer Anderson Varejao (205-C-82) for the “butchery” elbow strike he have made to the Greek guard three weeks ago during the World championship in Japan. The result of this hit is two months out of action for the inauspicious Greek player.

Well, I doubt it was the intention of Varejao to break someone's face but after seeing the replay, looked like a nasty and intentional high elbow that was intended to hurt the player.

While it was in the arena of a game, I don't think that Varejao should be immune from having to suffer consequences for his actions, legally or otherwise. So in some sense I applaud the player for pressing charges.

    I didn't see any intent.

He did raise his arms up, both of them not just the left. However, he didn't swing or aim the elbow toward the other player. The way I saw it, it was nothing more than an accident.

Looks to me like Varejao stuck his arm up to contest a possible shot while he was passing and Zisis got nailed.

Doesn't really look intentional to me.

Well, in a scene prior to this, Varejao got a cheap flop foul called, after which Zisis told him to stop diving. Supposedly, Varejao answered him not to come close to him again, or he would hit him.
If you want to believe this, it was definitely intentional. And I think it looks that way too.

That bruise is nasty but it shouldn't keep him out 2 months unless he's a woose.

Where is he going to sue him? Japan? Greece? Brazil? US? I doubt he ever collects a cent even if he wins.

Zisis looks like Anderson told him to make a ham sandwich, but he accidentally put turkey on it instead....

That was absolutely intentional. Reminds me of the blows Artest and Rip Hamilton exchanged in the playoffs a few years ago.

Well, Reggie Evans went unpunished last year against the Clips.
