Default Official Dolphins @ Steelers Game Thread - 9/7/06 - NFL Kickoff Special

Well, to everyone, it's finally back. The NFL is here and it starts tonight on NBC at 8:30 EST.

It's the Miami Dolphins visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers. This looks to be a good game, people will get to see how the 'Phins will look with Daunte at the QB position.

It's too bad Big Ben can't play in this game, but I really don't think the Steelers have to worry about it, their defense will be ready and with a loud home crowd, they should be fine without Big Ben.

    My prediction:

    17
    24

    HOOOOOORAY NFL SEASON!

*Jay, if you please you may move this to the Steelers thread, but I thought I'd make this thread since it's the first game of the year.*

Part of me thinks that the Steelers are going to give Culpepper Hell all night long. Then again could Culpepper be close to being his old self? and force the Steelers to respect his running ability.

The bigger question is will I start Dante in my PD fantasy league

Jay, I had lunch with Grace today, and since I've been so busy, I had to ask her who was playing tonight. When she reminded me, the first thing I said was, "Now that the season's starting, is Jay gonna change his avatar?"

She said, no, they're the defending champs, why would he? I thought about it, and said, "Well, if they start out like 0-7, he'll change it then, right?"

Of course, you'll be happy to know in my line of sight was a big TV showing ESPN, who during the 30 minutes showed about 47 plays from the Indy-Pittsburgh playoff game.

    Bizarre little game.

The offensive rustiness in the first quarter didn't surprise me a bit. The Steelers were 0-4 in the preseason, after all.

Our defensive lapse in the third quarter was quite frustrating. Taylor drops an INT and then the 'Fins score. Troy drops an INT that had six points written all over it.

Then the miscue on first and goal from the one. (Not to mention the fact our special teams play was unacceptable, muffed punts, catching a punt on the four yard line, giving up a deep punt return that led to points.

We certainly tried everything possible to give that game away. Too bad Nick Saban looks like he's still in waayyyy over his head.

I still can't believe the official ruled Miller's long run was a touchdown. That was an obvious call and the official has got to get into better position. And, after our previous goal line mistake, I was a bit nervous. Oh well, the Dolphins had a chance to correct that mistake, and squandered it.

I keep thinking about starting a "Troy from MVP" campaign, but I'm still not sure he's better than Joey.

But the fourth quarter - now that Steelers' football.

Not saying I mind it because it helped me win a lot of money but, those back to back automatic first down calls (on 3rd and very long) was very helpful and the announcers were even talking about how that was a "very very close call". After the superbowl, and this last game I think the steelers have some favortism with out a doubt. Again not complaining but, it's just a fact.

Yeah, because the Steelers got the right call on Troy's intereception in last year's playofss?

Or the famous Thanksgiving Day coin flip fiasco.

The Steelers were a 1st-and-goal fumble and a botched punt coverage (returned all the way to the fifteen yard line) from winning by more than twenty points.

Let me say this about the Steelers, they are hands down the team to beat in the AFC. As much as it pains me to say that, it is true. They are as complete of a team that you are going to find in the NFL right now. If there is any position that they might be a bit unproven at it is WR. Other than that, man are they solid across the board.

Oh, and man I LOVE Troy Polamalu. He is one of maybe a dozen or so defensive guys in the league that are worth the price of admission all by themselves. The guy is flat out a player.
