I wonder why they announced Hunter now? I thought this was known for weeks?

Wasn't Hunter's contract partially guaranteed ? Perhaps that is the reason.

Is it against Indiana state law to not have a guy named davis on any of the teams?

So, is that it, then? Because we have over 15 players with guaranteed contracts now:

    C - JO/Hulk
    PF - Al/Foster/Baston
    SF - Danny/Williams/Marshall
    SG - Jack/Quis/Flight
    PG - Tins/Runi/Armstrong/Snap

That leaves Edwards (guaranteed, but worthless), Greene, and Powell out.

I think it could be Marshall, Powell and Edwards.

I noticed DW and Larry mentioned Greene's name a few times lately in regards to the lineup, but not Marshall or Powell. I could be wrong but I have a feeling it will be those three.

I also recall a question on his salary, but I thought when we picked him up we also assumed at least part of his salary from Boston.

Looks like Perry might be a signing to help Tinsley out, as he was the head coach of Iowa State during Tins's tenure there.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Love Davis and Perry...Snap, not so much...I hope this isn't the end of Orien Greene.

OK, so, how many players do we now have hanging around? 18? Doesn't it make good sense that we've got so many guys because we might use them in a trade? Powell and Marshall have that which every team needs, potential. So does Greene, and even Snap. We've got so many pieces that are good filler for trades, it makes too much sense for us to trade them instead of cutting/waiving them.

I'm torn over the signing of Davis. This is the second guy we've brought in with previous connections to JTins. It's obvious that we're committing to him completely, especially with the trade of AJ. While I've been pleading for Tinsley's departure for a while, there's a chance that he'll be much more comfortable, resulting in better play from him. If it works and Tinsley has a good year, then we know that his "injuries" were not all legit, but we've got a darn good PG. If it doesn't, we've got two assistant coaches that we brought in for Tinsley that will be in an awkward spot when Jamaal gets moved.

No, we can only carry 15 players regardless if we send two to the NBDL.

"HUNTER SIGNED, COACHES NAMED, TIME CHANGED

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 29, 2006 ? The Indiana Pacers announced Tuesday the signing of free agent guard Jimmie ?Snap? Hunter, while also announcing the signings of Johnny Davis and Leonard Perry as assistant coaches. Per club policy, terms of the agreements were not released.
Hunter, a 6-4, 180-pound guard, played last season with the Gary Steelheads of the CBA, where he averaged a league-leading 27.6 points per game. His 1,214 points set a Steelheads single-season record. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds per game, 5.4 assists per game, led the Steelheads with 83 steals and shot nearly 40 percent (.396) from 3-point range. He was named the CBA Player of the Week three times. In March 2006, he signed with Etosa Alicante of the Spanish ACB, where he averaged 15.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 12 games.

Davis is a former Pacers player who was with the team from 1978-1982 and brings years of coaching experience to the bench. He has been a head coach with two teams (Philadelphia and Orlando) while serving as an assistant coach with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Clippers, Portland, New Jersey, Orlando and Minnesota. Davis, after playing collegiately at Dayton, was a second-round pick of Portland in the 1976 NBA Draft and was an integral part of the Blazers' 1977 World Championship team. He also played for Atlanta and Cleveland with career averages of 12.9 points per game and 4.5 assists per game.

Perry will be joining an NBA team for the first time after being in college coaching since 1994 when he graduated from the University of Idaho. He served as an assistant coach at Utah State from 1994 to 1998; was associate head coach at Iowa State from 1998 to 2000 and spent the last five seasons as the head coach at the University of Idaho.

PACERS? APRIL 1 GAME TIME CHANGED TO 7:00 P.M.
The Indiana Pacers? game vs. the San Antonio Spurs, Sunday, April 1, will begin at 7:00 p.m., instead of 2:30 p.m., as previously scheduled. "

The Perry signing speaks volumes. I'm shocked. Also more than a little disgusted we still don't have a big man coach. But hey, if we're gonna play Al at center, it's not like we need a big man coach.

I know nothing about Perry. Why does it speaks volumes, what does Perry bring to the team.

He was the freakin' coach of Idaho, where he went something like 4-26. The only connection he has to anybody anywhere is he's the guy who recruited Tinsley to Iowa State.

I wrote about this extensively when he and Grant Long were being interviewed, but I can't find it. The search hasn't been working very well for me since the upgrade.

I remember Bruno saying earlier this month on WIBC, Some fans may feel last year should have been Tinsley's last chance.

Bruno said he felt the Pacers were looking at this season as the do or die year. So it would appear they are pulling out all the stops.

Well Davis was basically done several days ago as well.

I'm fine with Perry, hopefully its a connection to Tinsley's best games. Isn't it odd that they grabbed SarJas teammate Baston and former Tinsley ast. coach Perry?

Agreed....Seems weird to have so many....The AJ for a trade exemption brought in three guys, so that was sort of an "accident". But I think it's definetley possible that we're moving something like Jax/Sarunas/Harrison for a bad contract and someone we want.

I didn't say it was a bad hire. If he is of help with Tinsley, that's wonderful.

But you've given me an idea. Maybe Long will go to Cleveland and turn Scot's career around!
