Thread: The Pacers Pieces

    Default The Pacers Pieces

    We have some pieces now

but there are some questions that will determine which way the team goes

    The Pieces:

Jermaine O'Neal: Will he be an MVP candidate or will he have another dissapointing season?

Al Harrington (I PRAY): Al has grown in Atlanta but will his play show it in Indiana?

Danny Granger: We all love the kid because he has shown he can play but did we mention Scottie too soon?

Marquis Daniels: Will Daniels breakout this year in his new found starting role or continue to play ok

Stephen Jackson: Lets not forget that he won a ring as a damn good role player. Now that he will move back to being a role player will he play like he did for the Spurs?

Right now that front line is something new to us

It is long, lean, quick and athletic as hell

I am excited about this team... It has been a shakeup but we kept our core which is awsome.

Also very excited about Daniels getting a starting spot and just what if he can play PG?

I'm trying to figure out how the pieces fit together.

Daniels and Saras seem like a natural fit to play together. Jax and Saras don't lilke playing together, and Daniels has the ability to cover Saras' shortcomings.

I refuse to believe Daniels was brought in to be the backup to Steven Jackson, but if you're going to play him with Saras then you need to play him off the bench unless Saras starts. Daniels and Tinsley in the backcourt means absolutely no shooting. And with the hire of Tinsley's college coach, it doesn't look like we're moving Tinsley any time soon. So as of now (or assuming we get Harrington and the Veep), we're forced into something like this:

    JO - Hulk
    Al - Foster
    Granger - White
    Jack - Daniels
    Tinsley - Saras

With Armstrong, Greene, Williams, Baston, and either Marshall or Powell (whoever we keep) out of the rotation entirely.

I don't see how it's going to work.

It's definitely a team you pack the lane against.

Armstrong will get 6-10 minutes per game. Williams, I really don't think he's playing this year. Baston, Greene, and the rest are waiting for someone to get hurt. But I don't see how these end-of-the-bench guys not playing means it doesn't "work".

Re the shooting, that entire starting lineup can hit 20-footers, and so can three guys off the bench. 4/5ths of your starting lineup are likely to hit about 35% from downtown. I really don't think it's the problem everyone thinks it is.

Shooting isn't a HUGE problem, but I still would like to see a veteran/specialist 3pt shooter for about 10-15 minutes a game. Not to launch three after three, but to like someone else just noted, prevent other teams to pack the lane or atleast punish them IF those teams would do that.

I'm starting to like it, but I think we look a little too much like Denver.

Seems like a lot of people think Danny is going to be our best three point shooter with a clutch element (which he certainly seems to have), but don't forget Denver has this Carmello figure who seems to be their best shooter and is pretty damn clutch too.

Teams still pack the lane against them and certainly they aren't known as a team that's dangerous from outside. Better that's seen as their major weakeness. I think we might have the same problem.

I wasn't clear, sorry. I'm not at all worried about us not playing those guys. A 10-man rotation is the max you can run with, and once we get to the playoffs a 9-man or 8-man rotation is better.

Interesting analogy about Denver. Personally, I've been making a mental comparision to Memphis.

I'm of the same mindset about a three point guy, same as you. (imagine that? )

Eddie House fullfiled that role perfectly last year for the Suns. They used him like Detroit used Vinnie Johnson. If we're going to be this athletic, running team, we need some spot three point shooters to compliment that. I don't see anyone like that on our roster. Yeah, we got guys who can hit a three, but not specialists like quite a few other teams.

I'm really holding out hope that we trade Jackson and whomever (him and Tinsley would be too much to hope for) and get a stud PG who can nail the three.
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?
