Breaking: King says Iverson off table in deal

    By PHIL JASNER

    Daily News Sports Writer

    The 76ers trading Allen Iverson?

Doesn't sound that way at all.

"I fully expect Allen will be suiting up with us next season," Sixers president/general manager Billy King told the Daily News this afternoon.

"Allen and I have talked about it, and he wants to be here and is excited to be playing for us."

King said he is "still working the phones, talking to people [about prospective deals]."

"We're trying to do what's best to make us a better ballclub," he said.
"That's not including Allen in our discussions."

Iverson has spent his entire 10-season career with the Sixers. He is a four-time NBA scoring champion and was the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2000-01.

So now will Billy Knight get moving?
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I think it was only a scare tactic for Iverson to wake up or something...I knew deep down inside they wouldn't move him, although im sure they entertained all the offers to see what all they could get if indeed they wanted to trade him but when it was all said and done i knew they couldn't do it, the fans in philly would go postal

Or maybe they didn't get as many offers as orginally thought. All we heard about is a Boston deal, but Pierce wasn't leaving and beyond Pierce the Celtics have absolutely nothing for the sixers.

The article said training camp, are we really talking about training camp, training camp, not practice, not a game but training camp. Iverson doesn't do practice let along training camp. See you preseason AI

It doesn't say that Iverson will not be traded.

These are quotes from the above article.....

King said he is "still working the phones, talking to people [about prospective deals]."

"We're trying to do what's best to make us a better ballclub," he said.
"That's not including Allen in our discussions
    ."

The key word here is "our". I take that to mean that King has handed over the duties of finding a trading partner for Iverson to AI's agent. Much like happened in Orlando with McGrady. T-Mac & his agent found the tem he wanted to play for & then TPTB hammered out the players involved to make the deal work.

I think the same thing could be going on in Phily.

I think you're really reaching on this one, Jose.

    Re: Boston

Basically, the Sixers aren't interested in Szczerbiak, but were more than
willing to consider a three team deal, perhaps involving Harrington (now
not possible), Boozer, Gooden or someone else as the other principal.

Alternatively, they could wait until August and do the deal for Ratliff,
who has two years left at 14m per, which means he is tradeable or could be
retained for salary cap relief by the 76ers. He is also a serviceable big
    man.

The main return for them in the deal would obviously be in terms of young
talent. The Celtics currently have 11 guys under 24, of which 8 are
considered valuable because of their production to date and/or pure
    potential.

Rumour has it that the Sixers love West, Gomes and Perkins, the three that
contributed most to the Celtics last season. Green and Jefferson are
widely regarded as having outstanding value. The deal probably didn't
happen because Danny Ainge would not part with any of these five. One of
them plus a pick and Wally or Theo would probably be enough to get it done.

The Celtics also have Tony Allen, who is a promising player but has legal
concerns surrounding him at the moment. And they also have Telfair and
Rondo, but they only just acquired these two, so it seems unlikely they
    would move them on.

They also have Allan Ray, Leon Powe and Dwayne Jones which could
potentially be used to tip the balance or to make the salaries work.

Finally, they have a few extra picks over the next couple of years.

It's obvious the Celtics did have the pieces to get it done, but I think
the Sixers were probably asking for too much. It's probably wise for the
Celtics to wait a little longer and also for the Sixers to not make a deal
when the return is not as good as they hope.

There was never any question of Paul Pierce going in the deal. He just
signed an extension and replacing your one good player for another good
player (and one who is known for not being quite so team-oriented) would
    make no sense.

I think that the Sixers just lost their best chance to move Iverson.

I'm not suggesting that they should trade away for nothing.....but from what I read about the Denver trade offer...Iverson for Dre+Nene/KMart/Camby......it wasn't that bad...in terms of getting somewhat comprable talent. I know that it would have buried them as much from a financial perspective....but there was no way that they would have avoided that anyway given Iverson's contract.

I can see that the Celtics were playing hardball when it came to offers for Iverson....but I'm wondering what they are going to do now. They are in the same position as we with 2 young but prospective PGs and a rookie that all need playing time.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

Great. Now we get to hear all the same BS rumors again next summer. Am I the only one sick and tired of hearing about Iverson possibly being traded EVERY summer?
