Nash on his new 'do: 'I felt like taking it off'

    Associated Press

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Steve Nash has replaced his mop-top with a buzz cut.

The two-time NBA most valuable player showed up at a basketball camp Wednesday with his trademark unruly hairdo gone.

"I just cut it," shrugged the Phoenix Suns star. "I don't really have a rhyme or reason. I felt like taking it off."

Nash is almost as famous for his long, wild hair as he is for his pinpoint passes and sharp shootings. Fans of an NBA video game even complained the Canadian point guard's hair did not "flow" properly, forcing the manufacturer to make changes.

Nash was in Vancouver to host a charity basketball game. The money raised will go to the Steve Nash Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life.

He took time to work with about 20 of Canada's top high school basketball players attending a Nike-sponsored training camp. Nash addressed the players, then helped them with some on-court skills.

"I was like 'Wow!"' said Vancouver's Robert Sacre, a 7-foot high school student who already has committed to attend Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash.

Nash smiled when told of his impact on the camp's players.

"I really just wanted to answer their questions," he said. "I just try to tell them how hard you have to work and how bad you have to want it to be a good player. A lot of time kids say they want to be great but they don't want to put in the time."

This is seriously upsetting to me. It's just like I like Ginobili ten times more with longer hair. Yes, I'm a male. A straight male. Why do you ask?

I wonder why this is, when Johnny Damon cut his hair to join the Yankees I literally stopped watching him, it was very upsetting to me. Johnny D was his hair and his hair made him a star (well and his play too but more his hair lol). It could be a mental thing because the past couple years all you would hear about (regarding BoSox baseball) is Johnny D, then off with the hair and no one is interested anymore.

I quit watching Johnny Damon because he left the Sox , not because of the hair.

I'll be surprised if he averages 10 assists this year.

    Woot, go Yanks baby!

Damon was one of the few Sox I liked, like him with the A's actually. Sucks he had to lose the hair, but if Donnie Baseball had to then he has to also.

I hate that Nash did this, it gave him a real on-court personality. His Kelly Leak hair gave him the classic 70's look to go with his style of play. It was perfect match

Has the dude not heard about...

Oh well. What next, Big Ben buzzes off his troll doll fro? Now that is some rough looking hair, he needs to buy some product or something.

I think it's a better look, personally. His hair got really grody as the game went on - it made him look like somebody who just got out of the front row at a Bon Jovi concert.

I think he should have left some of it. I didn't care for the "Front row at the Phish concert" hairdo, nor do I like the current "Dying of Cancer" hairdo.

Johnny D was forced to cut his hair, because thats Steinbrenner's club rule. Jason Giambi had to cut his as well.

It's an improvement over the grease mop he had before, but then again just about anything would be an improvement.

Now when he licks his fingers, he'll brush them over his eyebrows.

That's the worst news I've heard in a long time. Nash without his mophead hairdo is like Willie Nelson without his long braids, or weed. That's just horrible.
