Who exactly was Carlisle supposed to play at SG instead of Jackson?
It shouldn't matter. You sacrifice the game if you have to in order to make the point and to achieve larger goals.

No one game is as important as instilling the system and type of on court demeanor you expect (or demand) from your players- game in and game out.

The signing of Daniels makes it completely plausible that Carlisle will deal more strictly with Jackson this year. Carlisle now has someone he can actually put in the game and still stand a chance of winning.
That may be true but as I said above, it shouldn't matter as to whether to punish Sjax or not. First things first and that should be setting the example. Let Eddie Gill play if you have to. Put Pollard in. Just make sure and don't let the lunatics run the asylum in a desperate hope to pull out an individual win here or there.

The problem is that until Al goes, nothing else of significance happens in the entire league. And because the Hawks control all, we are in for a long ride. They will stretch this out too long, forcing the Pacers or Warriors to look in another direction and ruining their bargaining position. It is like a big game of chicken.

I think what is happening is the Hawks are on the phone trying to work a deal with TE they would get from us.

Also, the Pacers are also fielding calls, Bird claims more moves are likely so his phone should be ringing alot. At least we hope.

I would guess Al has most of the deal worked out but its still dependant on other teams playing along.

I know I am about the only one in here who hopes Al goes to the Warriors. That would be all we need with Jax, JO, and Al all wanting the ball to throw at the basket. Great combo

The last time Al played here, people complained that Ron, Al and JO wasn't the right mix, yet they were able to play at a high level with consistency the team has not been able to duplicate since since Al left.

I don't want Al back for selfish reasons, I want next season dedicated to the development of Granger. I do not believe the team can win, nor can they make the off season moves to win next season. So its all about development.

    Okay...we are probably

For last season.....if it was SJax...then Carlisle should have stepped onto the court...pulled SJax by the ear...and sat his @ss down and put Freddie in. And just so that D4G doesn't ask why we wouldn't do the same thing about JONeal doing the same thing....he should have done the same thing to him as well.

This doesn't mean that SJax or JONeal sit out the entire game....but as a warning that this type of behavior is unacceptable and that your @ss will be yanked if it continues.

I'm just curious if I missed it... but was there ever an "Iverson to Indy" rumor?

It would make sense for us to try to offer Tinsley/Jackson/Someone for him. He could play point if we needed him to and would offer the scorer/shooter we now lack (imagine him and Marquis in the same back court). I know he doesn't fit with our usual "style" of player, but neither do Tins and Jack.

Is it just that we can't touch the offers others will make, or did the Iverson storm come and pass?

So you pull him out -- you still have to start him the next game.

Think not? Look: Jackson's too big of an asset to create a public perception that he's a lost cause. Let's assume he revealed himself to be such a big problem that the coach really thought the team will be better off if he were pulled and benched forever. Well, by taking that action, the coach would pretty much guarantee that the team will never be able to trade that player for anything. Congratulations, your franchise now has nothing for the megabucks multiyear payouts to this guy.

On the other hand, if the coach can string Jackson along to the end of the season, talk quietly with the GM, who goes out to get a competent player to replace him, now you still might be able to trade Jackson for something of value.

I think that it was brought up here on PD.....and there was some debate about it......but I think the closer answer is the former.....we can't touch any offers that others make.

SJax+a healthy Tinsley+???? would probably do it...but considering that Tinsley isn't healthy.....and I have no clue who the Sixers would want ( other then Granger )....then I don't see how the Sixers would like that deal.

Question for Tim, or anyone really

Would having Harrington here help set a good example for Granger?

I ran into Roaming Gnome at the Indy Zoo this past weekend & we talked about Harrington's return. Having him back "might" help keep Jackasson in line. I doubt Harrington would wait too long to get in his face first time he pulled the crap he pulled last season. Harrington in the locker room would be just as helpful as Harrington on the court, maybe more.

    Another thought............

With our trade excemption, could we be the third team in an Iverson deal? Somehow include Jackson & Tinsley from us, player X from another team & Iverson from Phliy.

Not that I would want Iverson here but we could get players or picks from the mystery 3rd team. I would hope it would be Boston, as look as we could get West, I would take back Ratliff.

There is pleanty of other basketball around the globe people

I just got home from driving down to Hobart ( Capital of Tasmania ) to watch my home country New Zealand go down to AustraliAsian superpower Australia

After losing the first game in OT and Beating the crap out of the Kangaroo's in the second game we came O so close to beating them in Game 3..

It was a very dramatic night and it was my first chance to see my home country play baskekball which is weird for some...

I got some great photo's and all my All Stars signed my program so it was great, it was an awesome night and so gutted we lost in a clincher

We had like a 14 Point Lead at half time an Kirk Penney had a chance to send the game to OT with 6 Seconds on the clock. he got fouled on a three pointer which was both dramitic for him and me ( tell ya more below)

    He missed the first :'(

    He Missed the Second :'(

He tried to go for an offensive rebound on the third and failed

so we wrapped up ther rebounder Chris Anstey and he Missed the first, made the second so we had one last chance a four point play

Kirk Gets the ball of the inbound and nails a sweet three, to little to late n we lose by one.... unreal game though

Bogut showed some NBA Glimpses but in general i was a bit dissapointed by his play, seemed lack luster really

This an excert from me and a dude in a coperate box....

When Kirk Gets fouled I leap to my feat being like the only Kiwi There.. and go you breauty and punch the Air as you do

    I hear this Voice...

    Me: Jumping the air

    Voice: Sit down you fool

Me: thinking what... Turns around looks carefully spots a tool, Says, You got a Problem

Voice: Yeah, I am going for a Australia

Me: thinking HUH, what the... hmmm don't get it... umm am I DR, ummmmm i diden't ask him for his "problem" I asked do you have a problem, as in yeah what you imagine that means, That answer just bemused me totally, I can not understand how that in anyway was a clever answer but hey what ever...

It was a great game and worth the 6 hour drive there and back, we got in like to early and I got Andrew Gaze's Autograph and we are sitting down for like 20 Min soaking up the atmosphere and a securitry guard walks up from the other side of the arena and goes, are youse with someone.. we like yeah but no maybe, n he's like the Areana an't meant to be open yet, n we like ohhh sweet so we slowly move out of the areana back to the foyer only to be kicked out of there too... madness

What a day what a day..... if the Pacer games are half as good as this I'm in for a treat one day

I really don't know what you mean by more serious since players have already changed teams.
I think he means specifically the Pacers dealings (edit - how did I miss Hicks response?). After lots of rumor buzz the last few days have brought that to an end, as though they are starting to really hash out a potential deal.

Either that or the agents hit a wall and gave up trying to create their own deals via the press. I happen to think that where there is a ton of smoke, there is probably at least a small fire.

So I think some Harrington number crunching has been going on in an effort to make things work, or the hardball ramped up and people started delaying their phone responses "just t' show em".

    A little between GMs probably.

I do not understand why everyone here seems so infatuated with Al Harrington. Al is a decent player, but not great. He doesn't shoot 3's, rebound, pass or defend that well. Furthermore, a front line of Al, Danny and Jermaine would lack low post defense, rebounding and size. If we had a decent center and didn't have Danny it would make sense. I just don't see it in our current situation. I agree with others who suggest that (as much as I dislike some aspects of his character) Iverson would be a great fit here. He would be a great compliment to JO and would give us the outside shot (some nights) and a player who can take the ball to the basket and finish/draw fouls which we have not had for as long as I can remember. I think we could put a package together that would rival the rumored deals I have heard involving Boston including cap relief (trade exception) and future draft picks. It depends what Philly wants.

Iverson would be a great fit as long as he did not shoot so much that he choked the rest of the team out of existence. And he's getting old and I would guess has a max contract. That too could choke the team out of existence.

There'd be a lot of risk to it if we brought Iverson in, but then again if he JO Danny and Quis all meshed and brought us a championship then it would look genius.

How the heck would we get him anyhow

I'm with you... Not a big Al fan... If we were able to get him for MLE... great, otherwise, too much!! Of course, I could eat my words in the future, but I don't think Al has what we need to fix the team.

So you are better off just putting a player's antics on display rather than trying to discipline him and that playing him somehow 'hides' his 'problem(s)' from other GM's?

Once you have a flawed player, you have a flawed player. IMHO you're better off setting the proper example for the rest of the team even if a problem player doesn't ever 'get it' and you end up taking his starting role if not his playing time altogether. As a matter of fact, I'd disagree with your premise that it would be the worst thing you could do (to sit the player multiple games) because..

A: The injury excuse would be used, not a punishment excuse

B: You aren't constantly putting the problem player on display and his legend can grow on the bench while some other GM or coach thinks THEY can 'rehab' this problem player (especially if the antics are 'out of sight, out of mind' with him riding the pines).

On the other hand, if the coach can string Jackson along to the end of the season, talk quietly with the GM, who goes out to get a competent player to replace him, now you still might be able to trade Jackson for something of value.
The real problem is (whether people agree with my take or your's) is that Carlisle (and management) never even took the first step and shortened his leash to begin with. They allowed a double standard and also so allowed things to go unchecked that Sjax's antics finally soured the whole of the Pacer Nation on him. Even the sunshiners (for the most part) are ready to see him leave. By letting it get to this point they created a situation where it is very hard to imagine what it would take to turn that around (if it is even possible at this point).

To add fuel to the "lukewarm" fire that we are all huddled around while we are anxiously waiting for the frickin Hawks to make a move.....I was poking around the RealGM Bucks forum ( yes, just like I was doing in the RealGM Kings forum and discovered the "infamous" 6-team/18-player trade that has yet to surface ) and they mention some rather generalized "insider info" on a major trade that the Bucks are rumored to be involved in with a "High-Profile" player.

    http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=546138

Although the intial "insider" claims to know some information....there are no specifics as to who this "high-Profile" player is. The speculation has gone as far as somehow acquiring KG....whereas others think its Josh Smith, Iverson or even BDiddy. The funny thing is that some of them honestly believe that they can get KG without somehow parting with Redd, Bogut or CV.

You can have fun and browse the 16-page thread....but it goes to show you how the rest of the NBA Fan base is as "bored" as we are.
