Default Marcus Williams shines in his debut with NJ

I just thought this was interesting, considering all the draft pundits thought this was the guy the Pacers should've drafted.

    http://www.nba.com/magic/news/2006_S...84213-800.html

The Nets' Marcus Williams led all scorers with 24 points on an impressive 9-for-15 (.600) shooting mark while also dishing out 12 assists, which marked the only double-double of the day’s action.
It'll be interesting to see how passing up on Marcus for Shawne turns out. Hopefully better than the Fred Jones instead of Tayshaun Prince choice.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

The real question, will Larry ever admit he made a mistake with that pick?

It can't be undone, so you're just going to be torturing yourself with this. Like Shawn Marion haunted us who knew Bender was a bad pick.

This was such a no-brainer pick, team needs a start PG, best PG in the draft is on the board.....oh well.

First of all, this is a performance against the Magic's summer league team. Take a look at their roster. http://www.nba.com/media/magic/MagicNets71006.pdf
He had better light them up. Secondly, Shawne is a bit of a project but his ceiling is higher than that of Markus.

Finally, the question on draft night was Fred Jones or Kareem Rush. Tayshaun Prince was not projected to go that high at all. The player that everyone ripped the Pacers for not taking was Rush.

Yeah, at first I said that we drafted the wrong Williams.

I still like Shawne though. Congrats to Marcus on the sweet double double.

We don't really need a good distributor.

That would depend on what qualifications one uses to say it was a mistake.
If good citizenship is one of the requirments then not picking Marcus could never be termed a mistake.

(Good citizenship meaning not trying to sell stolen computers)

When Austin Croshere won the Good Citizen award, I think he won it at least. People didn't hold parades, they didn't shower him in champagne, and they didn't interview him on ESPN. The NBA is not about being a good citizen its about winning Ball Games, which leads to making money.

After what this team has endured over the past couple of years and the black eye it's image took, character probably factored into the draft and I couldn't agree more with that.

Yep, I know Will remembers the last Williams we turned an eye because of his unbelievable talent. Check please????
You know how hippos are made out to be sweet and silly, like big cows, but are actually extremely dangerous and can kill you with stunning brutality? The Pacers are the NBA's hippos....Matt Moore CBS Sports....

I don't see how one summer league game makes us look bad for not drafting Marcus Williams...

Good points about it just being a summer league game against a weak team. Then again 12 assists is 12 assists. I'm not going to sweat it too much, he was the guy I wanted though.

Yeah they ripped the Pacers for Passing up Kareem Rush. I wanted the Pacers to draft Tayshaun. He was one of maybe 3 players the Pacers invited for workouts twice so I really thought they would draft him. If the Pacers had drafted Prince, I doubt they lose to the Pistons in '04 - Reggie would've made that layup!

    I'd better stop now.

Not only a summer league game, but one in which the opposing team did not have their first round draft choice from this or last year. It is all unsigned free agents and James Augustine. He played much better teams in college.

You mean like the Jailblazers turned the fans in Portland off? Why do you think the Trailblazers are revamping their roster? They are doing it to win back their fans. How players act, i.e. their citizenship, matters.

Its not going to take 2 or 3 years..its goign to take about 1 week of regular season basketball.

Of course, some people will never admit it, despite what happens, just like some of the pro-Bender people.

UB and Will like to bury their head in the sand and pretend like everything is great, all the right decisions are always made, you can't pass judgement using your own opinion, you have to trust in Donnie and Larry, etc, etc. Then when they turn out to be horribly wrong, they just shrug it off. Blame it on something else. Blame it on Bender's injuries. Blame it on Ben Wallace. Its never the Pacers' problem, its some other outside reason for the right decision not being made.

one week of regular season basketball will prove that... Marcus Williams is a servicable backup to Jason Kidd? It's not like this guy is the next Chris Paul or anything.

No, it'll prove he's absolutely the best PG out of this class and is unquestionably better than any PG on the Pacers roster.

While 3-4 years from now, S. Williams might be a serviceable player, just in time for free agency.

I don't think anyone was making that point. Just thought it was a good topic for speculation.

1 weeks seems a bit soon. But this silly thread is talking about 1 summer league game. That is what I object to. But I've got to go stick my head back in the sand

Wow, I don't know what you do, but you should be using your remarkable talent at predicting the future for the good of mankind. And if not mankind, the future of this franchise. Donnie retires next year. Bird could use a guy like you.
