Default Toronto after Pedja big time

Jeremy(phx, az): In 5 years we will all sit and wonder why Adam Morrison went 3rd and not first (ala Michael Jordan) He is, by far, the best player in the draft. Your thoughts?? P.S. I am not a Morrison fan, or a Gonzaga fan, but im a realistic Basketball fan.

scoop Jackson: I personally thought he should have gone No.1 in order to open things up for CBosh and CVill to get busy in the paint. So to me Andrea Bargnani was a bad selection. But then i heard late last night that the Raptors were making serious moves to get Peja. So know not picking Morrison makes sense. And the Bulls don't need him. so everythinhg worked out the way it sholud and MJ may look like a genius by default.

This is the team that worries me. Unlike most American players, Europeans would actually like playing and living in Toronto. It is one of the most "European" cities in North America, and because Montreal does not have a team it is the most European city in the NBA. I know that if the Canadian Employment laws were not as they are, I would love to live there.

Also, there are a lot of Serbs there, as well as other Eastern Europeans and South Slavs. My only hope is that Bird knows shomething about this that we don't, because he seems to be talking as if he is staying. If he does leave for nothing, then our Artest trade was a complete bust, much like Bucks trade of Ray Allen.

I know the Raptors have the cap space to sign him outright if they want to, but if Peja wants to go there we can still give him a better contract (more years/$$), so maybe we could still orchestrate a sign-and-trade. Phoenix did something similar when they lost Joe Johnson to an under-the-cap Hawks last year.

The Raptors certainly have some assets to offer in draft picks and young players like Graham, Peterson, Villanueva, or a resigned Mike James to make it worthwhile.

Same goes for a team like NO/OK who reportly have interest in Peja.
They could offer Mason, West, Smith, or any of their recent or future draft picks.

I guess this kind of scenario is more common when an under-the-cap team pursues a player who is in line to get a max contract (unlike Peja), but it could still happen, I suppose.

They will not give us any of those player for a player they could just sign outright. Well maybe Mo Pete.

Perhaps, but don't forget , Indiana is the only team that can offer a 6th year.

So if he wants the largest contract in length he would either need to re-sign with Indiana or a S&T .

    Why Not Us ?

If he's interested in winning, however, Toronto's probably not the place to go.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I assume Toronto is as interested in giving a 29-year-old a six-year deal as we are, which I assume is not happening. Maybe assume is the wrong word--more like pray.

If we were to sign and trade Peja i'd be happy getting MoPete, Graham, or Charlie in return. Although Charlie is the guy I least want as talented as he is. He is a forward and with Danny/Williams/Jermaine we have plenty of forwards.

Peja's been underpaid his whole career. I'm guessing he's interested in money. And I don't mean that as a bad thing against the guy; it's just reality.

IMHO....if Peja was 2 or 3 years younger and in the same position that he is in now....it could be about winning a ring and the money. But given that his is his last best chance at getting a huge long term contract......its all about the $$$$ to him.

I'm all for a S&T for Peja to Toronto...if they come knocking on his door.

A MoPete+1st round draft pick+filler for Peja S&T would work for me.

We get a solid starter at the SG spot that can shoot/score....shift Granger/Williams to get the SF minutes and don't get saddled with a long term contract from Peja.

Actually Toronto isn't as far off from winning as it might seem.

One is they have Bryan Colangalo so that right there will help them convince someone like Peja that they are serious about winning.

But when you look at their team they are solid. Bosh, Charlie, Graham, MoPete, and Mike James. You add Peja to that group and that is a big step in the right direction. Granted taht Charlie will probably be traded and Mike James won't re sign.

Because the Raptors have such a good GM who showed last summer that he can re tool a team quickly, maybe he can re build a team quickly too? We'll see.

I thought that Bonner was moved to the Spurs in that Rasho trade...

This talk about the Hornets and Raptors making a hard push for Peja reminds me of what I read about Utah and Denver pushing for Brad Miller 3 years ago. I think Peja's done in Indiana.

Not sure....Can't say I spend that much time thinking about Bonner or Nasho in the off-season actually. You're probably right though.

And if we offer Peja six years this summer, I will probably be drinking a lot of whiskey that day. Gross.

Yeah....but do you really want to resign Peja for that much and for that long?

    I certainly don't.

S&T for the 6 years and get back some value. I will live with whatever benefits we can get from moving Peja....who I think can still fetch us some decent value in return...instead of living with a 6 year overpaid contract that we will be stuck with for years to come.

We're not gonna win in the immediate future.....why stick us with another Croshere-like contract?

    IMHO, nor is Indiana.

I'm guessing he'll wait and see what happens with Jax and Tins just like the rest of us, then decide. A Raptors team with Peja is better than a Pacers team with those two knuckleheads.
