Default Are the Pacers building a team around JO or not?

As of this moment it seems more like we're building a team so that we can lose JO in the near future (not necessarily this summer). But more moves are obviously (hopefully!) coming so I suppose we are working off of incomplete data.

I'm still a bit curious tho.

I think major moves are coming and they might include JO, (I'm not predicting JO will be traded, but it is a real possibility)

Are they building around JO: Seems more like they want him to play more center

Ahh. Thank goodness Bball posted this, I was too lazy to type this out myself.

My mind has been churning since last night, with the same thoughts.

    • What is the other shoe ?..

    • With the Recent Draft Picks and comments made or implied , is JO out or will be actually play a more upstyle tempo and, his losing weight plays in to that new style ..

    • Will Rick really change his Offensive Scheme? Has Bird asked him to do so ?

    • Is Rick and JO both in a one year Lame Duck status, depending on how they can adapt to change?

    • Is AI coming to Indy ? .. Ok I just threw that last one in for fun...

    Why Not Us ?

I was thinking that too, Unclebuck. If they are truly going to go for a smaller, up-tempo offense, JO is the type of center they would want for that.

Of course, even if we are trying to model something kind of like the Mavs have now, they still have big centers like Dampier and Diop, so who knows.

Haven't had the opportunity to look into this at all, but is there any possible, conceivable way we can get Ivy without giving up JO? If we can, you gotta do that. They need a PG? Granger, Williams, Croshere, Tinsley and Harrison for Ivy/Player X?

Sorry to bother you all with my delusions.

    I was gonna say that.
If we go uptempo, as Bird said, a slimmer JO would have to play center.
Has he committed to the new offense? That is, if their is a new offense.

    This is the possible roster:

    PG: AJ/Tins/Saras
    SG: Jack/Freddy/White
    SF: Peja/Danny G./Williams
    PF: JO/Cro
    C: Foster/Hulk/Scot

If we go uptempo, then who do we trade/release?

Granger AND Williams? For that player X would have to be Igudola

But if that's the case, why does JO keep talking about getting someone to bang inside?

Not to me. You realize AI is a Hall of Famer coming off arguably his best year as a pro. Granger and Williams are prospects. I'd sign off on that deal if Player X was Kyle Korver.

Yeah but the Celtics are trading like Wally Sczerbiak for him.

Several legit, banging, big-body big men went in the first round of this draft.

The demise of the "center" is greatly overstated.

Yes and almost all of them will be out of the league in a few seasons.

Thankfully, we did not draft that type opf player.

You're losing it with your "new NBA" that is really just the "old NBA coming back around again" stuff.

But you're right - thankfully we did not draft that type of player... we've got a better one in David Harrison. Too bad we've also got a better version of the kid we drafted, too.

I really wish we'd get started at fixing our backcourt. I think when you're drafting at 17 that its okay to take the player that is most likely to help you fix your biggest need - they're all long-shots that far down anyway so its pretty damn dumb to try to find the hidden superstar at that point in the draft. For every Gilbert Arenas or Tony Parker that slips that far, there are a bazillion longshots that don't pan out.

Barring a catastrophic injury, I'll bet Mardy Collins and Farmar have much longer, more productive NBA careers than our picks of Kenny Williams, Jr. and Sean Green, Jr.

I will take that bet Jay. Lets call it 5 years from today to be the deciding factor. Dinner at St. Elmo's.

I think we should seriously look into starting big and then going small...like the Mavs. JO would play center like Dirk did; not the entire game but just enough to play up tempo.

Nor will they, as long as Rick's here. He barely plays NBA-ready rookies (with four years of college).

If they're still in the league, its because they've been traded to a team with a coach that develops players.

Last big news I heard was Shaq winning yet another title.

Centers matter, and will always matter and JO can't take the heat in the middle. No pun intended.

Granger / JO / Harrison is something we've never, ever, EVER tried. Not once.

I think that frontcourt would be brutal, but I fear that I'll never be able to find out in my lifetime.

Exactly. Bird said during his interview with ESPN that Williams will be able to play power forward after a while. He also mentioned Wiliams and Granger playing at the same time. Obviously if JO was on the floor too he would be playing center.

Were we to play small JO would be an ideal big man. I even think JO would be aboe to play center more easily should we play up tempo allowing for easier baskets and taking away some of the banging.
"They could turn out to be only innocent mathematicians, I suppose," muttered Woevre's section officer, de Decker.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."
