Interesting that most teams surveyed have him falling to 17.

I'd be shocked if Larry doesn't take JJ at 17 if he drops to us.

Same here. However, I don't buy the hype that he's falling. I think some team is floating this rumors about his back to get him to drop, to be honest. I know of one particular team that did this last year with their draft choice.

If Houston doesn't make a trade up and Roy isn't there, he could go as high as #8 to them...after that I don't think he'll fall past #17.

Something like that seems to happen every year.

Heck, Granger fell last year because teams were wary of a knee that turned out to be just fine.

I think if Redick isn't taken at 11 or 14, then we'll get him at 17.

Exactly, I have a strong feeling we are going to pick up Redick. If Houston doesn't take him then it's almost certain we will have a chance to draft him. I HOPE so bad. Plus Redick is going to fall because he has a herniated disk in his back! I only want him if he's healthy though.

I never thought I would read someone who sounded excited while saying that.

Any player that does what he did in college has something special in him, something that can't be quantified in points and rebounds. It takes a certain personality and character type to dominate the game the way he did for so long. Now, imagine what he'll be like when every coach in the entire country isn't scheming to come up with ways to stop him.

At 17, we can get a rotation player that will play behind Jax for 15 minutes a night while playing solid defense, or someone who can potentially become a game changer and the best shooter in the NBA? Are we that much worse off if this pick doesn't work out? No player at 17 is going to put us over the hump and make us a contender, but Reddick has the best chance of making the biggest impact. So why not Reddick? Let's see what he can do.

Well I can think of one huge reason, and it has been stated several times in this thread.

Redick has herniated disk, says no surgery needed
    By Andy Katz
    ESPN.com

NEW YORK -- Former Duke guard J.J. Redick told ESPN.com on Tuesday that he has a herniated disk which is pressing on a nerve, but dismissed rumors that he needs surgery for the injury.

Instead, Redick said he received a cortisone shot and has been pain free for a week. He said he expects to play in the NBA summer league, the USA Basketball national team trials in July in Las Vegas and during training camp in the fall with whichever team selects him in Wednesday night's NBA draft.

Redick said he suffered the injury while working out at Duke earlier this month before going to the Orlando pre-draft camp.

"It really flared up during the combine during the vertical tests and the sprinting," said Redick. "I've been pain free. It was asymptomatic. I've been doing exercises to strengthen my back. I'll be back on the court in a week."

A number of teams told ESPN.com that Redick's disk injury caused their team doctors to flag his medical at the Orlando pre-draft camp. Doctors from every team review the medical tests at the camp. Some red flagged him, which would mean not to take him while others yellow flagged him which means to watch his recovery. Sometimes where a team is picking can affect the color of the flag term. Still, doctors are more conservative at various teams. For example, Chicago's doctors red flagged T.J. Ford's neck injury out of Texas while Milwaukee's were OK with the Bucks selecting him in the 2003 draft.

Redick told ESPN.com that no one said he "failed the physical."

"I've seen two back specialists and worked with a physical therapist and they don't think surgery is needed," Redick said. "I've had positive feedback. Hopefully I'll play in the summer league which will be a good prep for me for the national team trials."

Redick said the pain was the reason he shut down workouts, canceling workouts at Boston and Philadelphia in the past week. He worked out for Houston (8), Golden State (9), Seattle (10) and Utah (14) before the injury.

"First of all, I will be healthy and I'll be fine for training camp," Redick said.

Redick said he doesn't think his DWI arrest on June 12 in Durham should affect his draft positioning and was hoping that he would still go 8-14, which is what his agent Arn Tellem has been telling him and ESPN.com.

"The teams understand that it was an isolated incident," Redick said. "Obviously I'm very sorry about what happened. I don't think it will have any affect on the court. I still think I can play and I'm a person of high character."

Still, the last few weeks -- the waiting, the DWI, the back injury -- have made him anticipate the arrival of Wednesday night's draft.

"It's going to be a huge relief," Redick said of being drafted. "I'm a nervous wreck right now. I've had a lot of anxiety the last few weeks. Not everyone will admit that but I will because of the uncertainty of the situation."

The reality is that Redick may end up with two possible destinations late in the lottery -- at Orlando at No. 11 and Utah at No. 14 as long as they agree with Redick that his back is fine.

What did he do in college? How many final fours? 2 rebs 2 assists...he's not a special player...he's a hope. I said it.

only reason i like JJ is b/c i think he would play very well on the perimeter with DG. Danny is more than capable of guarding the best 2 or 3 on defense, which would somewhat null out JJ as a defensive liability. JJ could help spread the floor for JO as well.

i want us to take JJ at 17 unless LB & DW have every intention of re-uping freddie. if so, i want rondo, followed by a trade of either sarunas or AJ.

I can think of a couple other special college players, Calbert Cheaney, Mateen Cleaves, Shawn Respert, Trajan Langdon, Khalid El-Amin, Jason Gardner, Miles Simon, Danny Ferry, Ed O'Bannon, ad nauseum...

There are always special NBA players available mid-first round...

It's reasonable to wonder about his NBA prospects, but to dismiss his college career (leading scorer in the history of the ACC) make you look awfully silly.

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

2 rebounds 2 assists 0 final fours, and he played for DUKE. Want me to send you his last college game? What special guy.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. We get Reddick, and I'll vomit.

Barring many trades in the offseason, I'll probably have a hard time watching the games. I'm disgusted with this team enough. Let's not add to it. Reddick is short, but can't play point guard. He isn't tall enough to bother any shots at SG. He isn't quick, he isn't a leaper. So he can't stop penetration, or bother a jump shooter. Sounds like Steve Kerr's "mini-me" to me. Last I checked, we have no Tim Duncan, or Michael Jordan for him to play off of. Nor will we be in the Finals to give him a stage to perform on either. Not with THIS team.

    Ugh.

    Can I say 'UGH' again?
