    Successful Scenario
Due to Phoenix and Indiana being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Phoenix and Indiana had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

why for Phoenix: They have their eye on a player thought to be going in the teens. Saras should fit their run-and-gun system. They gain a backcourt defender in Jax, and have three draft picks to deal or use.

why for Indiana: Speed in Barbosa, and old player in Thomas but a good complement to JO for his rebounding and midrange shooting ability. Not a bad defender either.

Hmm.. maybe we could give Jax and the pick for Barbosa and their pick. I'd love to see Barbosa on the pacers though he's wonderful. Not a Thomas fan I think he just got lucky in this years playoff diffently not the 8 mill they are going to give him.

I think if Phoenix trades any players to move up in the draft, they will be looking for cap relief as well. It won't be too long before Diaw needs to be resigned. I think you would have to include Croshere to capture their attention.

Jax makes too much more than Barbosa. You need a bigger contract like Kurt or Brian Grant (yuck!) coming to Indiana to get the trade to work.

You could send Austin instead of Jax, but surely Phoenix would want something more than an ending contract to give up Barnosa.

    This one works:

    Outgoing

    Austin Croshere
    6-10 PF from Providence
    8.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 22.9 minutes

    David Harrison
    7-0 C from Colorado
    5.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 15.4 minutes

Sure, I'd like to have Barbosa, but why (other than the pick) does PHX do this? None of our players would interest them except maybe a S&T Fred Jones.

Pheonix has talked about packaging their two picks... they obviously don't see anybody they think can help them that late in the draft.

Would they trade those two picks and James Jones for Anthony Johnson? JJ's already out of the rotation, and if they bring in another SF he'll be way out. And AJ would be a very good backup for them, and could play some 2 in their system. I figure we'd use the picks on Hilton Armstrong and Josh Boone.

    Thoughts?

    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Even though AJ's value is at an all-time high, I think you are way overestimating. JJ AND TWO 1st rounders for AJ...I mean I would love that but id our pick included? Cause I see no reason why Phoenix does this.

The 27th pick in the draft is usually considered less valuable than the 31st pick in the draft. Your chances of finding a contributor are low, and you still have to pay them for 4 years.

I'd be willing to give them back their second-round pick that we got for JJ...

I dunno. Maybe it is high. But they're not going to use any of those players anyway, and this way they get a solid contributor.

Bottom picks in the draft aren't usually worth much, but I could be wrong.

This is sort of random but, say we did follow through with one of these deals and Phoenix Drafts Redick at 17th I think I'd be ill knowing we could of had him.
