    Default Dirk went 2-14 tonight?

If JO had done that, half this board would be ready to run him out on a rail.

Hmmm, that'd mean that JO had gotten us to the finals.

You know what, he only made two field goals, but still had 16 points.
You, Never? Did the Kenosha Kid?

    That's not even remotely true.

Unless bball's multiple personalities each have their own PD account.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Not only 2-14, but his defense was as terrible as always. Atleast JO is a pretty strong interior defender.

Yep. The fact that he's consistently in the top-5/10 in blocked shots alone creates an intimidation factor that will effect an opponents shot.

That doesn't neccessarily mean he's a good one on one defender.

I'd say he's an above average one-on-one defender, good strength and quickness and desire. He controls the paint pretty well.

Is that why Nenad torched him?

Not sure I'd call 18 ppg torching anyone. Nenads an offensively gifted young center and he had a good series vs a banged up Indiana front court. And besides, Nenad gets his points off of jump shots, which is a tough cover for an interior defender like JO. As long as he continues to control the paint at a high level, which he does, nobody can complain.

When he start that? Didn't the Pacers give up 40+ PITP last year?

    grasping at straws
    1. trying to find reasons to feel hopeful about a bad situation.
    2. trying to find some way to succeed when nothing you choose is likely to work.

Sounds like DW and LB in the offseason.

Shot blocking stats and defensive ability are not very closely related.

Some good shot-blockers are terrible defenders, some are great defenders.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

It sure doesn't feel that way around here lately. There seem to be at least as many ready to send JO packing as there are wanting to keep him.

My point is that, despite all the praise heaped on Dirk and scorn on JO lately, JO hasn't had too many 2-14 shooting performances, IIRC. In addition to that, if you watched last night's game, the Mavs stopped going to Dirk for virtually the entire 4th quarter. It looked to me like they lost a little faith in him.

Last I checked, Rick was in charge of defensive assignments, not JO.

And why would we want our PF guarding outside of the paint, especially when our center is a weak interior defender?

I'm open to trading Jermaine, assuming we get something back that's a lot better than Toronto's offer. But it's not like I want him gone. And I think that's true for most of the board (bball's an obvious exception).

Regarding the 2-12 night, go look at Jermaine's game three stats from Round One.

    http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jermai...ame_stats.html

Nowitski's line from Game Four was much better than Jermaine's from Game Three, yet Jermaine actually didn't take much flak for the game. Most of the flak went to Peja for not playing.

I'm going to assume you're talking about Game 2 (3-12) and not Game 3 (12-15). And I'll remind you that JO was taken out of Game 2 very early in foul trouble, which he was hindered with pretty much the entire game. And I'll still take 3-12, 12/7/2/0/3 in 32 minutes over 2-14, 16/9/1/1/0 in 41 minutes.

ONE assist from Dirk on a team with all that firepower. ONE. In 41 minutes.

You're right, Game Two. But it doesn't change anything.

You said "If Jermaine had done that, half the board would have run him out on a rail." And I pointed out that Jermaine DID do that, and half the board DID NOT run him out on a rail. That Jermaine had 4 less minutes than usual is not a big deal, especially when he got near his usual number of shots.
