I think it'd be much better if you seperate Indiana Pacers forum from rest of the NBA. After all this is a Pacers forum.

    I mean something like this;

    Indiana Pacers
    Talk about Indiana Pacers

    NBA Talk
Talk about other teams in the NBA

It's been discussed at least once before. If I recall correctly, the last time it came up, I was up for trying it that way, but it seemed like the majority of others didn't want to go in that direction.

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but how about some form of a "NO thanks" button? Just as you can see that some posters tend to have posts in which people thank them and you can pay more attention to them when they post, maybe the opposite could be true for those posters who continually post contentious stuff and you can partially gauge what they're saying but the number of "no thanks" posts they have.
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?

A while ago, I temporarily switched from Thanks to a + and - system where x number of +'s literally highlighted the post in question, while y number of -'s would actually "bury" a post to where you would then have to click to even read it, but it was deemed too much trouble for the board.

I forget the exact reasons at the moment, but I think it was something like creating animosity, encouraging mob/gang mentality, that kind of thing.

I'm not in favor of anything that would invalidate someone's opinion like that. While it's true that most of the time it's not the opinion itself that offends but the way in which it's shared, the poster who gets ther posts "NO THANKED" or "buried" isn't likely to see it that way.

With a no thanks button, a Rep system, or a + - system you are practically asking for someone to overuse it like the thanking or thread rating in the past. I don't think ANY negative response should be available that doesn't at least require a reply in thread.

    It makes it too easy.

You mean where you would click the - button and it automatically requires you to give a reason that all can read?

I suppose. I meant to say someone should at least be required to post a reply if they wanted their voices heard but your suggestion would also work, if its possible.

It'd require a reason, get the negative feedback point across and may not take up as much space as a post.

It would probably cause the same in thread bickering though.

There is already the ignore feature if someone is that put off by what someone is saying.

I would strongly discourage any sort of "negative rating" feature. It might sound like a nice way to discourage trolls on paper, but it could also become a very contentious part of the forum.

I don't want to sound like a pie in the sky idealist, but I feel like there's plenty of negativity in the world already. I like the positive reinforcement only aspect of the current setup.

Agreed. It really did not work out well when it was last implemented. Besides, PD has almost no problem with trolls, and compared to other internet forums, this place is Civility Heaven. The +/- system most benefits forums with severe trollage. Here the negatives would far outweigh any benefit.

    Thanks for the answer.

By the way I think this forum needs a good facepalm smiley. Because when words fail to describe the dismay, there is always facepalm !

Getting the above error whenever I try to start a thread. Googled it.....supposedly a server config issue?

Anyway, I'm putting this here, because I can't start a thread for it.

The only solution that I'm aware of is a work-around, which is to start your thread with a small title like "test", then once the thread is up, edit your title to what you want.

Try clicking "Edit" for the first post of your thread, then click "Go Advanced". There should be a box with the thread title in it where you can change it.

Or if you're viewing the thread while browsing the forum it's in (where it is listed among the other threads), you can move the mouse just to the side of the text and double-click, which should change the thread title from a clickable link to a text-box where you can edit it, and once you're done you click off to the side again to turn it back into a link.

I would like to suggest a "sticky" to go under Indiana Pacers. It might be practical to start a sticky called "Pacers Tickets to buy, sell or give away." I know there are many of us that might be looking to sell or give away some of our season tickets that we cannot use, and there are some games that I might need extra tickets for. Also, notices for ticket giveaways or specials from the Pacers that people find can also be posted here. Might want to consider the pros and cons, but can't think of any cons at the moment.

I would like to suggest that the use of the words 'suck' or 'sucks' or 'sux' more than three times, in any combination, (unless it's within a Market Square thread discussing vacuum cleaners) should be grounds for banishment.
