Default The Rick Carlisle Show is tonight (Tuesday the 14th)........

I'm probably going to be taking the kids to swimming lessons tonight, so everyone who wants to hear the show should probably make their best effort to huddle around their radio or internet connection because I doubt I'll be able to record it.

At least I think that's what I heard on the broadcast yesterday. The WIBC schedule shows it on Thursday.

Maybe someone connected with the show can confirm?

I'd hate for you to miss a week, which is why I yanked the kids out of the pool early........

Increasing the size of the rim? Interesting

Personally, I think that's a terrible idea. It's not like limiting the size of pads in hockey as he suggests. In that case, the pads were getting bigger and bigger and were a detriment to the original game as it was intended.

Increasing the rim size is more like making the cup bigger in golf. It does nothing but make the game easier, not better.

It is guaranteed to increase scoring. Isn't that what everyone wants. (I don't care care if the games are 78-75, but I know many others want all games 105-102

I want all games to be 180-177! 12 foot rim, here we come!

If the rim were wider, I agree that scoring would go up. But will that teach anyone to share the ball? Will it teach them to move?

Increasing the width of the rim would increase isolations and decrease movement on and off the ball.

Michael Bolton: That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life, Tom.
Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

Instead of making the rim bigger why not just play with the smaller basketball that the WNBA uses? It will save the teams money in the long run which in turn will slow the increase in ticket prices.

For those of you who aren't quite sure yes, I do believe that increasing the width of the rim is a stupid idea. Therefore, I offer an equally stupid idea.

    You're welcome.

If you want to increase scoring, just add a 4-point line.

Because increasing a player's ability to score will increase his likelihood to hog the ball. Why pass the ball when they can shoot the ball themselves. Never underestimate an NBA player's desire to stuff his stat sheet.

OK, then why don't we make the rim smaller, as according to your logic that will increase passing.

Has this article had its own thread? I hate to start threads (only did it twice), but after all this I have a hard time getting mad at Tins for bad passes or risky plays. I think that we should all read this. It just puts it in perspective.

I don't agree with changing the diameter of the rim.. but if I were going to compare it to something it would not be hockey pads.

Changing the size of the rims is more like changing the distance from homeplate to the outfield wall in baseball. There is no set homerun distance in baseball.. it changes from ballpark to ballpark... kind of interesting.

The better comparison would be changing the size of the goal in hockey, something that they experimented with during the NHL lockout. It was a stupid idea in hockey and an even worse idea in basketball. How about teaching players to shoot a mid range jump shot. That would increase scoring without changing the rim size.
