This is us - Very good. Liked the first ep.

Luke Cage - Just finished it. It was ok. No spoilers.
Pacing was terrible, character actions were all over the place. Action was gritty and very real. I did appreciate that it didn't have the choreographed feel to it, so that was a plus. Thought most of the actors were very very good. Diamondback was just so weak as a character. As soon as he was introduced, I thought the pacing went to complete crap. Netflix and Marvel have done a fantastic job of developing the villians, but Diamondback was just so one dimensional he felt so out of place.
First time in a long time, I've been happy with the team that was constructed, and now they struggle. I blame the coach.

That was the brilliance of Luke cage, IMO. The real villain wasn't Cottonmouth nor was is Diamonsback. It was Shades.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Luke Cage was pretty good. Very cliché and predictable for the most part, but entertaining. I though Jessica Jones was better-written, but I had more fun watching Luke Cage.

The acting was better. The female roles killed it, but the writing was very linear.
    Spoiler Spoiler:

I thought Jessica Jones was better and Luke's role in that was more intriguing. Cornel (Cottonmouth) needed more back story sooner. In fact I would have done the back story of the "villains" and Pops before touching Luke Cage's so deeply.

All in all I think it is on par with Daredevil.

I think Daredevil was better, especially season 1. Fisk as a villain was engaging and worth investing time into, as he was slowly built up over the season. Luke Cage was a little weak in this regard, but LC had a weakness in that the main character is overpowered compared to the other characters. In spite of that, they made him and his story interesting. I think it was the weakest of the 3 series but not by a whole lot. All in all, it was a very entertaining series.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Luke Cage is black Superman with the flying. I haven't watched past episode 7 but it appears that he doesn't have a kryptonite.

    told you guys.

anyway, it's really weird reading fan forums and stuff for The Walking Dead. I watch it, it's fairly fun pulpy stuff, but that's all it is. people talking about being in tears over X dying, how X's reaction to X was so sad (the vast, vast majority of that cast can't act for ****), it's just weird. but whatever, it's got huge ratings for a reason, good on em for getting that invested I guess.

    SPOILER:

Not a huge walking dead fan, but my wife is, so I catch a lot of it. I thought the season opener was good, but IMO the writers messed up with the Glen dumpster fake-out last year and then the cliff hanger. It seems like it would have made more sense to keep the fan base invested in Glen, and then to end last year after either this episode that just aired, or, even better, ending the season one more episode on from where we are at now. Set up the new season by showing the changes that have taken place and providing the glimmers of hope as to how they can get out of their situation. It felt like the season premiere lost a lot of its impact due to the long wait and because Glen should have died already anyway.

A flaw (IMHO) that I suspect we'll see again with TWD is they do a setup on a story arc and then will focus a week or two (or more) on other characters or arcs. So if that holds true to form, this Sunday will not focus on those that were just with the Saviors, or Daryl and the Saviors even, and will move to Morgan and Carol. And/or possibly Tara and Heath. Or those back at Alexandria and what they were doing/thinking/dealing with during the time Rick and company were gone. A bottle episode wouldn't surprise me.

    But we'll see....

    Spoiler Spoiler:

BTW, gore aside, I thought this episode itself was pretty good. Very impactful and some of the best acting of the run of the series. And JDM was clearly more comfortable at this point in his role as Negan.

Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

    Anyone else watching WestWorld?

This is the only show that I specifically look forward to and will go out of my way to watch the show. I have other shows in my stable.....like Agents of Shield, TWD, Halt and Catch Fire, Rick and Morty and the various CW DC shows.....but I don't care if I miss an episode during the week. I make time to watch WestWorld.

Thanks HBO for filling the gap until you decide to squeeze out the next season of GoT.

Not a must-see, but I was checking out "The Ranch" on Netflix. I found it to be mildly entertaining.

    Get HBO and watch WestWorld.

My Sunday routine is to watch WestWorld and then watch TWD.

It's like going from eating at a 5 Star Steak Restuarant to eating at Arby's in the span of 2 hours.

I just finished binging TWD. Man, that Season 7 premiere was brutal. I knew what was going to happen and it was still rough.

    Negan's great, though.

I was a huge Lost fan and a JJ Abrams fan in general, but I'm not sure about Westworld. I watched the first episode and it was OK, but it didn't really pull me in. I will watch a couple more and see where I'm at, but right now it's just on the weird side which is the problem I have for so many pay cable TV series in general.

The show definitely gets better as the season goes on. I think its the best show on TV right now.

    What he said.

Best show on TV by a mile and Hopkins is still on another level.

No offense, but I'm almost sure I will like Fargo, Bates Motel, and Stranger Things better than Westworld. I'll let you know.
