I'm up to S2 E9 of Deadwood. I'm not the only one who doesn't/didn't always know what the hell people are saying on this show, right?

You know it's gotten bad when they create fake drama to try and make Amish kids and guys with four wives interesting. Cooking shows, house hunting, what to wear, what not to wear, repo wars............ and what is a Honey Boo Boo? Make it stop!!!! TV is at an all time low right now except for some of the long running cable drama series.
I dunno, Duck Dynasty is pretty damn funny. Those guys are hilarious. Hey Jack, I don't care it it is lightly scripted. Its pretty funny stuff. There are lots of reality shows that work really well. Mythbusters, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Masterchef, Kitchen nightmares, Property Brothers.

I'm actually really in to the Bear Grylls: Get Out Alive on NBC.

What you are really saying is that reality shows with a tremendous amount of sensationalism is what kills you. Shows like Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, Honey Boo Boo.

It does answer the question, 'would Shakespeare be even more difficult to understand if every other word was **** and **********?'

I'm not too worried. Hell, look at Sundance Channel. They're practically funding series like Top of the Lake and Rectify (both of which I thought were pretty good) themselves just to get in the awards race. With a name like VG, networks know they have potential to win awards every year, so they're going to take that added risk.
Sort of. It seems like the networks that are already taking risks (HBO, FX, IFC, Netflix, NBC) will continue to empower showrunners. The ones who haven't though (AMC, Showtime, CBS, all networks that target women) don't seem likely to make moves just because a particular writer or producer might be involved in their shows. What is unfortunate is that even with Netflix's experiment going swimmingly from a content standpoint, the networks are still the determinants, rather than production companies, writers, or actors. It's not as bad as movies where the only hope is Megan Ellison, but there's a clear line in the sand that I think shows that a writer like Gilligan isn't particularly (relatively) important.

By the way, speaking of Deadwood, this brief piece of music is terrific and is what they use for the main menu of each disc in the series set:

I wish it were much longer than 1 minutes, 6 seconds. There are times I just let the menu play for a bit before I start an episode because I like it that much and it puts me in the mood to watch.

Also, I finished Season 2 last night, and I was wondering if anyone could confirm what I had heard about this before I watched the series:

    Spoiler Spoiler:

    Anyone else hear that story?

First I've heard, but that's hilarious if true. Sucks for the kid, though.

Deadwood was one of the best/worst viewing experiences of my life. I really don't marathon shows often. I've seen a lot of series all the way through, and love a lot of series, but it takes a lot to hook me. There have been a lot lately that just couldn't keep my attention.

Deadwood was one of those rare series where I actually just made weekend plans to watch a season. Entirely pathetic, I realize, but I was so damn fascinated. The feeling of getting to that last half of the third season and knowing I would never again see another episode...that sucked. So bittersweet watching the final episode, knowing there could and should have been more.

I'm watching the first episode of Orange is the New Black.

The exact words that escaped my mouth at about 40 minutes in when I laid eyes on Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) circa 2013: "My God."

I've heard that, and I want to say David Milch confirmed it at one point (dude has no filter), but I can't find a source for it. Regardless, it absolutely sounds par for his course.

Hmm. I've been watching Weeds ever since being so taken with OitNB and am starting the third season. I would say that the first was totally shaky with the second being a bit better. The main problem with the show is that it wants to have both serious, emotional scenes and cartoonishly funny scenes, but cannot really pull off that kind of tonal shift. My understanding was that the show lost its mojo about halfway through, but if it's more like a quarter-way through, I might consider dropping out early.
In my opinion you should keep watching. I'm not highly critical of shows, but I liked it. It went downhill, but I enjoyed it until the end.

Weeds went down the shitter the second they left California. I am up to speed on it, but the last 4-5 seasons have mostly been garbage.

Jon Voight really makes Ray Donovan an enjoyable show. Never a dull moment when he is on screen

OK so we have Xfinity Streampix and we started going through it and ended up getting hooked on Eureka. First off, how in the hell did I miss this thing when it was new? Second, how did this thing get cancelled? Third, why is the 5th and final season not available on Streampix?

I miss Gus though. He was a great character. Bball isn't Hank setting up the meeting/conference call to tell them it is his brother-in-law. or am I wrong about that

There's a TV series based on the Wes Craven movie?

Started watching House of Cards last night. Liked the first two eps and then got completely hooked by the third episode which I thought was just fantastic.
