Showtime shows have a history of great first/second seasons and then the show completely losing it's ****. Homeland, Weeds, Dexter. Shameless has stayed consistently great though.
I recently binged the entire 7 seasons of Shameless. I'm embarrassed to say that it took me this long to get into this show. I'm now going through Shameless withdrawal. Outstanding show. Frank Gallagher is an iconic television character

Just out of curiosity, what exactly didn't you like about House of Cards last season? I agree about Homeland. Doesn't have the same level of suspense anymore.

    April 10th!

anyway, not sure how we got to this point, but Seth Meyers is the best late night host on TV these days. which says more about the current state of late night than it does Meyers.

TWD... Did I miss a key scene or something that explained the creepy carnival? The military walkers with the rifles on the backs?

    Just finished Westworld.

I'm still thinking about that ending. I'm not sure I hated it or loved it. I felt they were bringing along a character to be a good guy and then bam, last episode was a 180. I don't know how I feel about that right now.
First time in a long time, I've been happy with the team that was constructed, and now they struggle. I blame the coach.

I dont know why Iron Fist got so much hate from the critics. I'm only 8 episodes in, but I really like it. I dont think its as good as Jessica Jones or Daredevil, but its definitely better than Luke Cage. Cant wait until Defenders comes out, its gonna be awesome!

Bates Motel. My wife wondered what they would do this last season with Mother being dead, but it has been even crazier and wild.

I absolutely love that show. I will be sad when it comes to an end. Neat how they are now tying it into Hitchcock's famous movie. Hopefully Freddie Highmore will find another popular show after this one. Don't have to worry about Vera. She is one of the busiest around.

I just finished it. There are a couple of things I didn't understand, but overall it was pretty good. Felt like a watered-down version of Daredevil.

In terms of quality, I'd say it's on-par with Luke Cage.

Still watching TWD and next week is the season finale. I'm assuming they learned a lesson about last year's cliffhanger about how not to do a cliffhanger, so we shall see.

That all said, I think the show has lost its way quite a bit even though some of the new characters themselves are doing a great job. Pacing and writing really seems to be suffering.
I wonder if it could be due to one or two things (or both)....
#1 The writers have no idea what the endgame is. Kirkman may know (or claim to) but that doesn't mean he's shared it with the writers. So they meander along with no compass to follow.
#2 They are trying too hard to follow the comics in framework, yet fit it into their 16 episode season, so they end up needing to s t r e t c h some things to get to their desired 16th episode of the season and the point in the show they want to be for that episode. With better, more creative thinking and writing this might not be a problem. But TWD hasn't really had super creative writing since S1 IMO.

I'll add that Darabont's idea to make the zombie's smarter and thus more of a threat would've allowed them to carry out that drama deeper into the series. But he was canned after just over a season so that ship has sailed.
I also know Kirkman claims to not want to explore the Zombie Apocalypse origins but I have to wonder if that is also hurting the writing. Obviously, it takes it off the table as far as a plot point, but more importantly does it hinder the writers not having that knowledge to build stories off of as far as a framework? A foundation? Could they be more creatively focused if they had a better idea of the early stages and what happened, even if they don't reveal it?

I still think the lack of an endgame causes them to meander rather aimlessly on plots, and an inability to go away from the printed page too much hinders them in trying to fit the shows in a preconceived 16 episode framework.
They might be better off just doing the shows and letting the story and writing take them where it will for their 16 episodes versus knowing what they want to do for the 16th episode and then everything else just being stairsteps to that, even when they creatively can't always make those steps interesting and compelling.

    ...IMO...
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

Watch "Trial and Error" if you want to watch a funny Comedy. John Lithgow is comedy gold on that show.
