Re: What TV Show Did You Last Watch
Dexter
Dexter
Spoiler:
Spoiler:Oh, it ended how I expected it would...Deb does find out in the book series, so it's good. The series has strayed so far from the books though. I still love this show. Loved the last line by Dexter. Oh ****...
Spoiler:So the cliffhanger turned plural.... The biggie being Deb finally figuring out she's in love with Dexter and has been all this time, on her way to confess it to him, and instead sees him killing Travis... .fade to black...
But also there's Louis. Nothing really moved forward with that storyline. Dexter hasn't found the ITK victim's hand that Louis sent him yet. So that's all very much untouched territory. Chief Mathews has been removed but no apparent movement toward charges for him or questioning. Could've been just a way to write him out of the show... or could be another storyline that will carry over.
I don't have a problem with them rolling this over with a cliff hanger or two. It never made sense to me each season would have a tidy resolution anyway.
The writers got sloppy here and there and allowed themselves to venture into (or close to) soap opera territory as well as taking the easy out cliches a few times. But ultimately this season was a fun ride I thought.
Spoiler:I really needed the Brody story arc to conclude. I thought the plot coming together made sense and was headed toward a dramatically appealing conclusion one way or another. Yet they found a way to rip that away and almost put us back on square one. You had the cliche of the bomb vest not going off... followed by the repair of it and then the last second interruption that delayed Brody from carrying out the plan... and ultimately stopped him.
But then, I needed to see him caught one way or the other and Clare's suspicions vindicated.... I needed to see him confess, maybe turn back to the US and work as a CIA agent if they wanted to roll him over to next season.... or I just needed to see his plot fulfilled. Any of that and Clare's vindicated (not that it gets her her job back at this point).
Instead, he decides not to fulfill plot after delay, plus opportunity soon escaped him anyway. So he doesn't get caught. He still pledges support to the terrorist leadership but with the idea he'll get elected and work from within to change things. And he's shown he isn't exactly above murder by shooting his former buddy to signal his support of the cause.
So, Clare was right but thinks she was wrong. A coverup has been figured out but maybe nothing comes of it. Clare's went batshit crazy and is in the hospital getting shock therapy. Brody is no closer to being caught and now there's some new plan brewing... that may not involve more than one man in government being sympathetic to the terrorist cause or at least believing his country has committed war crimes. I'm not sure how that even makes him different than some of the more liberal members of Congress in real life.
So we're no closer to resolution and have to wait 9 months to restart this slow process again?
Not sure I want to dedicate another season to this pace. Especially when the ending was so unsatisfying once we got there... and 9 months to wait....

Spoiler:With American Horror Story‘s first season resting in peace, Ryan Murphy is turning his attention to the serial thriller’s second act. The show’s cocreator confirms that Season 2 will be “radically different” from Season 1. That means a new setting/locale and a (mostly) new cast.
“The second season of the show will [feature] a brand new home or building to haunt,” Murphy said in a conference call with reporters on Thursday. ”It will also have a new overriding theme.”
And in an unprecedented twist for an ongoing series, some current castmembers will return — but they’ll be playing new characters. (Murphy confirmed that current leads Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will not be back, at least not as series regulars.) ”There will be familiar faces and some new faces,” said Murphy. “People that are coming back will be playing completely new characters… Getting to tell a different aspect of what an American horror story can be [every season] is fascinating.”
Murphy added that he’s currently in talks with a few members of the Season 1 cast to return full time, but he declined to name names. An official announcement about the new ensemble and storyline will be made in February. In the meantime, Murphy offered this tantalizing tease: “There’s a clue in the last three episodes where we say what the second season will be.”
