    CEDAR POINT DEBUTS SPECTACULAR NEW
    THRILL RIDE FOR 2006 SEASON

In 2006, Cedar Point will add a world-record-breaking thrill ride – Skyhawk. Located near Snake River Falls in Frontiertown and standing 103 feet above the ground, Skyhawk will be the tallest ride of its kind in the world.

Skyhawk will feature two giant swinging arms, each 84 feet in length, with 20 seats on each arm. Each set of 20 seats will consist of two rows of 10 seats, positioned back to back, that will provide each rider with a “front row” view. Using pneumatic technology similar to that used on Power Tower, riders will be thrilled as they are pushed toward the sky, then experience weightlessness as they reverse direction and rush back toward the ground – just like the drop side of a roller coaster – with no ride structure in their path. At the peak of the arc, riders on Skyhawk will be more than 125 feet in the air and will reach speeds of 60 mph in both directions! The $6 million ride will give nearly 800 rides an hour. Each ride will be approximately two minutes long. (Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride Skyhawk.)

“Skyhawk will be the world’s largest swing ride. It’s a simple concept, but it will be an amazing ride experience,” said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “All of us have ridden swings as kids. Imagine riding a swing that is higher than a 12-story building and goes faster than many roller coasters.”

Guests will have their first opportunity to ride Skyhawk when the historic amusement park/resort opens for its 137th season on May 6, 2006. Construction of Skyhawk began immediately after the park closed for the 2005 season on Sunday, Oct. 30.

I haven't been there in a few years now - its mindboggling that the Millenium is now "just another ride."

The Raptor is one freaking awesome roller coaster.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I'm so glad I live in Ohio. I've gone to Cedar Point every summer with my church for the past 3 years.

I wish I lived near thrill Rides. I used to go to Canada's Wonderland every year, seasons passes even. Stupid Alberta. All we have is West Edmonton Mall but I mean it is seriously too big. They have the Indoor Water park which is alright, the indoor amusement park which I have yet to go to and a few other things, but I just attempt to use it for a normal mall and it is just too big. Too much damn walking.

    They already have something similiar.

Its a giant swing that is in the shape of a circle and rotates during the ride. I don't think it reached the height, nor the speed of what they're saying the new one will reach, but it was still a pretty good one.

Are you talking about Kings Island? I haven't been there in awhile(even though I live a half hour away) because the place has just become too boring. I went there five times one year and rode everthing from the Beastie(kiddie ride) to the Vortex.

I don't know if this was directed at me, but I'll answer it anyways.

No, I'm talking about Cedar Point still.

    Here's the ride's page.

It actually reaches 70mph and 140 feet up. They don't call it a swing though, but a pendulum.

I live about 3 hours away from Kings Island. Delirium is awesome! It doesn't look like it goes upside down until you get on it! The Son of Beast is also one of my favorites!

Went to Cedar Point a couple years ago and rode Top Thrill Dragster and I absolutely loved it!

I really wish that they would've built that amusement park that they were going to build near Plainfield I think! That's only about a 30 minute drive from where I live!

Oh man, me too. I hate roller coasters and thrill rides. My wife get perturbed b/c she has to either bring a friend or go alone.

The last time I was at Cedar Point they had just put in a roller coaster called the Magnum (? I THINK ?) and it was HUGE, although probably totally outdated by now. Just looking at that thing made me feel weak in the knees.

Man, way back in the day King's Island had a Kiddy ride called Enchanted Voyage (later to become the excerable Smurfland ride). You just sat in a little boat and rode through a canal indoors in the air conditioning while some animatronic characters sang a song about TV cartoons. Geez, that was ILL! I rode it all day while my family did their stupid roller coasters.

Like I always tell my wife (who by the way is like you VT), millions of people ride these rides every year and only a couple people die.

    You'll be alright.

I'm going to Knotts Berry Farm next month with the wife and her sister and kids. It's in California. Anybody ever been there that could give me the inside scoop?
