There are a about a half dozen teams that I've looked forward to doing a review of, the Suns are one of those teams.
Along with the Nuggets & Kings they are one of the teams I enjoy watching, aside from the Pacers.

The disclaimers..........
From NBA.com, a story on the Bobcats draft.
http://www.nba.com/bobcats/news/expansion_draft.html
This paragraph has the basic info.
Charlotte will receive lists from each of the 27 teams not competing in the NBA Finals 10 days prior to the scheduled Expansion Draft (June 12) and those from the competing teams in the Finals within two days of the conclusion of the Finals. Team lists will designate a maximum of eight protected players for that team’s players under contract or restricted free agents for the 2004-05 NBA season. The unprotected players are eligible for selection by the Bobcats, who will draft a minimum of 14 players from NBA rosters.
Free agent info from REAL GM.

Salary information can be found at Hoops Hype.

This is the current Suns roster.
Antonio McDyess
Shawn Marion
Howard Eisley
Jahidi White
Keon Clark
Joe Johnson
Amare Stoudemire
Jake Voskuhl
Zarko Cabarkapa
Casey Jacobsen
Leandrinho Barbosa
Maciej Lampe
Donnell Harvey
Compared to lastnights Sixers post, this will be a breeze.
The Suns have a short roster to begin with, just 13 players. 10 are signed for next season & the 3 that are not are unrestricted free agents.
The signed Suns for 04-05
Shawn Marion --------- $11,326,219
Howard Eisley ----------- $6,375,000
Jahidi White ------------- $5,884,500
Joe Johnson ------------- $2,358,954
Amare Stoudemire ----- $2,032,200
Jake Voskuhl ------------ $1,743,750
Zarko Cabarkapa ------ $1,312,800
Casey Jacobsen -------- $1,082,160
Maciej Lampe -------------- $900,000
Leandrinho Barbosa ------ $870,000
The Phoenix free agents.
Antonio McDyess
Keon Clark
Donnell Harvey
Marion & Stoudemire might be the most familiar names on the no brainer portion of the list but Johnson, Cabarkapa, Barbosa & Lampe are sure to make it as well. That's 6 with 2 spots to fill.
Eisley, White, Voskuhl & Jacobsen are the boarderline guys.
Eisley has zero chance of being selected by Charlotte. He will turn 32 in December & his contract runs for at least 2 more season, starting at 6.3M next year. Plus super stud to be Milos Vujanic will be coming in next season & Mr. Eisley's services will no longer be required. Eisley will not be protected.
White has been on the trading block for awhile now. A couple things make him attractive to other teams. He is a big man for one thing, 6-9 290. Next season he will have an expiring contract. The Suns will not protect him, hoping that the Bobcats can be bribed into taking him. They could do a lot worse. He has a career FG% of .511. This season in 14 MPG he averaging 4.3 points, 4.3 boards & shooting .524 from the field. At just 28 years old Charlotte might be interested. I know the Suns want him off their books real bad.
Voskuhl is an improving big man with a very small contract. At 6-11 245 & making just under 1.75M next year there is no way in the world the Suns let this guy get away. Voskuhl is playing about half the game & hitting 50% of his shots, 6.6 points & 5.2 boards. Voskuhl gets the 7th spot.
Jacobsen will be making just a little over 1M next season, there is a team option the following year. That may not be the biggest thing in his favor. His FG numbers have gone up a pretty good clip from his rookie season. From downtown he has improved from .315 to .408. Overall the increase was smaller but still not bad, .373 to .409. With super stud to be Milos Vujanic coming in next season, Barbosa will see more time at the 2 & Cabarkapa will take some time away from Jacobsen at the 3. There is still a spot on the Suns for Jacobsen & he will get the 8th spot on the protected list.
The Phoenix Suns protected list.
Shawn Marion
Joe Johnson
Amare Stoudemire
Jake Voskuhl
Zarko Cabarkapa
Casey Jacobsen
Leandrinho Barbosa
Maciej Lampe
Phoenix will make the following players available to Charlotte.
Howard Eisley
Jahidi White
This might come down to what the Suns offer the Bobcats to take White off their hands for them, but in the end I think White gets selected.
Here is the Charlotte Expansion Draft.
Atlanta ------------- No Pick
Boston ------------- C - Kedrick Perkins -------- $729,500
Chicago ------------ No Pick
Cleveland ---------- G - Kevin Ollie ----------- $2,704,350
Dallas --------------- G - Tony Delk ----------- $3,150,000
Denver -------------- F - Ryan Bowen -------- $1,400,000 (est)
Detroit -------------- No Pick
Golden State ------ No Pick
Houston ------------ GF - Adrian Griffin ---------- $807,546
Indiana ------------- C - Primoz Brezec ------- $1,554,326
L.A. Clippers ------- F - Melvin Ely ------------- $1,742,400
L.A. Lakers --------- No Pick
Memphis ------------ GF - Dahntay Jones ----- $1,143,360
Miami ---------------- No Pick
Milwaukee ----------- F Marcus Haislip -------- $1,655,280
Minnesota ----------- No Pick
New Jersey --------- C Alanzo Mourning ----- $5,408,700
New Orleans -------- No Pick
New York ------------ No Pick
Orlando --------------G Reese Gaines ----------- $1,212,200
Philadelphia --------- No Pick
Phoenix -------------- C Jahidi White ------------- $5,884,500
Total payroll $27,392, 192
The 4th pick in the 2004 draft (Charlottes pick) is slotted to make roughly $2,523,200. I have yet to add it in, but I do want to keep it in mind.
After I add in the salary for the #4 pick the Bobcats have a projected payroll of $29,915,392
It's beginning to look like I might have to backtrack & remove a player or two.
Charlotte's payroll next season will be 2/3's of the salary cap. If the cap is 45M then the Bobcats will have about 30M for players.
