Let him rest the season. Trade Peja for a decent prospect. Blow the roster up. Hire a 3rd mascot. I don't care anymore.
You don't have to hire a third mascot. If you haven't noticed, Bowser is with child, errrrr pup, this year. I guess I've taken it for granted that Boomer and Bowser will raise it to be the Pacers' littlest mascot.

I had a groin "pop" during a track meet my senior year of college. That length of time isn't surprising to me.

I'll not bore you with my story. But I only had two meets left (Districts and Nationals), and I did race in those, in spite of being on crutches the rest of the week. But after those two meets, the second-degree tear had gotten worse, and I didn't run for several months after that.

I'm not surprised at all..there's no way you can play full-court basketball at the YMCA after popping a groin for 4-5 weeks, let alone three times a week for 40 minutes against the world's best athletes.

    Mike Wells

Pacers All-Star forward Jermaine O’Neal is expected to miss at least eight weeks after an MRI revealed a significant tear in his left groin today.

His absence could impact the Pacers’ playoff chances. The Pacers are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. Eight teams make the playoffs.
If he returns in late March, as expected, the Pacers could have as few as 11 games to make a final playoff push.

O’Neal suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s game against Cleveland. He was not immediately available for comment.

See tomorrow's Indianapolis Star for more on this story.

I cringe whenever I hear "groin tear" or someone explains to me what a sports hernia is.

Well what do we do now.

maybe now is the time to reshape the team. Or between now and Feb 23rd.

Jermaine is officially injury prone, if he wasn't already. Tinsley has always been injury prone. Does anyone think they can both stay healthy for a full season in the next three to five years? I don't. I don't think we're going anywhere with either of them.

They will explore what they can get for J.O. this summer; they have to.

Of the guys we "need" to trade, who exactly has any value?

it's either that JO needs to get leaner and shed some 10 lbs or he goes into some kind of soccer training camp, footwork camp, foot speed camp- something! to improve his footwork and balance. he is one of the most awkward players when it comes to landing after a rebound, dunk or going for a block. (well jumping hehe)

Can we build a time machine and go back and get Maggette instead now that JO is out?

The bad thing is that both of their trade values have dropped significantly. JO not as much as Tinsley but come on... how does this keep happening?

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

Why, so they can sit together on the bench?

Because this year seems like a washout and if we lose Peja to free agency it is akin to getting that #6 from Wendys for Ron.

Peja was a this year move - Maggette was more of a future move was my interpretation.

We should add this thread to my lottery thread, because that is where the
    Pacers are going.
As far as JO is concerned I believe he is carrying 10-20 pounds too much weight. He has become slower since adding the extra weight plus it makes
    him injury prone.

In trying to be positive, Peja should fit well into the offense they run when JO is not in the lineup.

If he leaves, then he leaves. That opens up the 6mil he was making, not to mention the cash he's going to want, for a FA.

Couple that cash with Bender's, Pollard's, and Gill's little less than 1 mil, and that's a hefty contract for one player, more like 2.

If that's not future, then I don't know what is.

But we can just think in terms of who's going to physically going to be here, instead of actually thinking what each step opens up.

    EDIT: Even forgot Reggie's.....

6.1 comes off next year for Reg.
    6.2 for Pollard
    1 for Gill
    7.8 for Bender
    6.8? for Peja.

Facor in Freddie will be a RFA.

That's around 28mil coming off the books, not adding in F. Jones' contract.

I wonder what they plan on doing with all that money. Maybe they could buy Tiger's new house from him.
