Default Trade JO for who? List of options

I would trade JO for the following. However, it still remains a question if other teams would do the trade. But since we need to rebuild, I'd probably trade any number of players along with JO to obtain a player we can truly build around.

I probably would not include Artest in a trade with JO, since Ron should be able to snag a decent talent on his own merit. But for the right person (Garnet, Arenas, etc) I might consider it.

"Building around" is a big criteria, and somewhat subjective. I can't see building around Nowitzki (one dimenstional--shooting) or Okefur (not strong enough on offense) but, for some reason, can see rebuilding around guys like Ray Allen, who could arguably be one dimensional.

Also, I know nothing about financial considerations. This is just from the basketball angle. Anyway, all this starts a conversation:

Steve Nash. Yes. Trade two or three of our guards for a decent big.
    Dirk Nowinsky: No. One dimensional.
Kobe Bryant: No. Bad attitude trumps great skills.
Elton Brand. Yes, definitely. Might even throw in one more for the clips.
Ike Diogu: Yes, but we get two more.
Ray Allen. Yes. Trade guards for a big.
Rashard Lewis. No. Not convinced he's at the caliber of Ray Allen.
Kirelenko: Yes, but we get one more.
Derin Williams. Yes, we get one more. Trade guards for a big.
    Bosch: Yes, straight up.
Channing Frye. Yes, we get one more
Shaq: yes, they get three more.
Wade: yes, they get two more
Garnett. Yes, we trhow in another
    Pierce: Yes, we get another
LeBron: Of course. For our starting five.
Wallace, Billups, Hamilton, Rasheed: Straight up for any one of those.
Prince: Yes, we get another player.
    Yao: Straight up.
McGrady: Yes, they get one more
Redman. Yes, we get one more
    Gasol: Yes, straight up.
Vince Carter: Yes, we get one more
Jason Kidd: Straight up (Trade our guards for a big)
Chris Paul: Yes, we get one more
    Iverson: No. Not Indiana's type
    Shawn Marion: Straight up
Dwight Howard. Yes, we get one more
Gilbert Arenas. Yes, they get one more
    Duncan: Yes, plus three more
Ginobli: yes, we get one more
    Parker: No.
Bibby: Yes, we get two more
Mello: Yes, they get one more
Baron Davis: As fun as he is to watch, not Indiana's type (Of couse, neither are Tins, Jax and a few others. But that's another thread.)

You wouldn't trade JO for Kobe Bryant, but would trade him for Ike? I personally don't think trading JO is a good idea regardless, he is the cornerstone of our franchise and I can't see any trade that involves him making us any better.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

You listed alot of guys in their mid 30's. Im not sure if thats what rebuilding means.

We keep JO and get rid of the injury prone guys and the overpaid guys.

I think J.O's trade value might be higher than it should be. That being said, I don't think we should trade him and I don't think he wants to be traded nor do I think Donnie would ever consider trading him. Even if we were offered Bosh (summer rumors) or like Dwight Howard.

That's why I said in the second sentence of the post, "it still remains a question if other teams would do the trade."

But I'm interested if WE would do the trade, if offered. ("We" as in members of the board.)

You probably ought to brush up on some of your talent evaluation skills before applying for the next GM job that opens up.

Why are so many people looking to trade JO? This guy is having probably his best season without a team basically. SJAX plays well but he only plays like he should when he is the number one option like when JO is out. That my biggest problem with JO is that he has been injured frequently. Trading JO is not a good idea. Why would we rebuild a team that has been going to the playoffs for how many straight years. Trading JO is not the answer to getting better. The answer is bringing players around him that compliment him well. If Ron wouldnt have been Ron we would be right up there with Detroit and Dallas and San Antonio. There is not a doubt in my mind about that. Trading JO away is a bad idea. I rather see us trade Artest, Jackson, and others and bring in other players that work well with JO.

If you were a GM then I could seriously respect that comment.

Aww, relax. I'm just messin with you.

Based on your list I can't tell if you are overvaluing JO, or undervaluing him.

My opinion is that if the Pacers can somehow get a player who is better than JO, then they should hang on to him. If they plan to rebuild around JO then I think they are destined to fail because I don't think JO is a championship quality No. 1 option. He doesn't make his teammates better.

When JO is in the lineup I don't notice them being a significantly better team than when he is out of the lineup.

If the Pacers don't think they can acquire a player to come in and be the No. 1 option, then I wouldn't have a problem with them looking to move him. He does have a lot of trade value.

I'm betting a number of people might put JO in those catagories.

What? you want Redman plus another guy from the Wu-Tang clan?
I thought we had our fair share of rap artists with Ron Artest.

There's no way salaries could match in a trade like that...

If I were Rockets GM, I would trade Yao only for Lebron James or Detroit Pistons starting lineup. Yao brings his teammates to new higher level, for example, McGrady 1.5 million ASG votes, Wesley - 240 000 ASG votes.

The only players that one builds around are players that clearly are Franchise players....not players that are better suited as 2nd option or current franchise players that aren't getting the job done.

BTW....I disagree with some of your assesments on the players.

Franchise player that one could build around

    ( Definitely )

    Dirk Nowitzki
    Kobe Bryant
    Shaq
    Garnett
    LeBron
    Iverson
    Duncan

( Maybe - due to injury or other concerns )

    Elton Brand
    McGrady
    Wade
    Bosh

I'm not saying that the opposing GMs would trade JO for them...I'm just saying that all of the above could be considered Franchise players to build around. Also...is it possible to build around a player and not have that player be the franchise player?

I don't know....we already have a franchise player to build around....why trade one for another? Although JONeal has been the franchise player for the longest time...this is his first real year in the leadership role. Just trade Artest for a good 2nd option player....then SJax, Tinsley and whoever else for the rest of the roleplayers. We don't need to rebuild by completely tearing out the foundation...we already have a good foundation.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

What's so terrible about thinking through the same things Donnie and Larry have certainly entertained?

They don't seem to be proclaiming JO as untouchable, and the Star printed an article by Kravitz discussing a trade of JO.

    Just because you're not a head-in-the-sand homer doesn't mean you're "terrible."

You're free to post your own thoughts on why we should keep JO or start some of your own threads. Kinda ironic that the only post you've done lately, by your own admission, is a negative one.

    NO TRADING JO.

He is commited to this franchise and people are still looking to trade him. His heart is with us and he is a top 3 PF in the league.

Some people need to respect JO for coming out publicly and stating he wouldnt play with Artest again. He done it for the team and he has been a great leader for the team so far this season.

JO is also injury prone. The Pacers have an abundance of players like that.
If the team is to start over I would trade him for cap relief and a couple of
    potential lottery picks in 2007.
