Default Proof the Walsh lies to the media (well, proof to some of us).

I know with 100% certainty from an old source that this is just plain not true. The only wiggle room is if he means lately, but at face value it seems like he's refering to it at all, and that's just not true.

Reason I mention it? To reinforce the idea that we can not trust anything the Pacers say about this eventual trade. I know some of us already knew that, and in a way I did to, but this is my first encounter where it's flat-out smacked me in the face that I shouldn't pay attention to him.

    Artest and Kings? Nada

Here's to debunking any Artest-for-Peja Stojakovic deals once and for all. Despite league-wide media reports, particularly last month, that the Kings and Pacers have talked about swapping forwards, Pacers president Donnie Walsh shot all of it down. He said he is indeed talking to Western Conference teams, just not the Kings.
"I've never talked to (Kings executive) Geoff Petrie about that," Walsh said by phone. "I still haven't. I've never given much credibility to some of those media reports. They're not talking to me or the parties involved. I don't know where a lot of that information comes from."

I don't know... "about that" seems pretty open-ended.

In this post-"depends on what your definition of 'is' is" society, a lie is not so easy to pin down. Particularly coming from someone fluent in lawyer-speak like Donnie.

Besides, do we even know what the question was that he was answering in that quote?

Just playing a little 's advocate with ya!

Bird, however, has talked to the Kings about it...

I've at the impression for sometime now that players agents do a lot of the initial ground work.

Also, it doesn't say they didn't communicate by e-mail or fax, it just says that Walsh & Petrie didn't actually speak.

I heard the same info that you're talking about Hicks & you have to be very careful exactly what words you read & what you think they mean as apposded to what they really mean.

It's like when he said that he wasn't looking to trade Jalen Rose.

True, he wasn't LOOKING to trade him, but next thing you know,

    wow, an offer comes along...

just when he almost wasn't looking for it...

And he wasn't lying, since he never said that he would not ever trade Jalen. Walsh is a master at saying not quite exactly what you think he said, in such a way to afford future "wiggle room"

Does DW put disinformation or withhold information with regards to trades?

    I hope so.

Being a fan does not entitle me to know every little thing that goes on with trade and contract negotiations. Information is leverage in such things. I have no interest in reducing the value we get in return. Sure, the curious part of me is dying to know who we've talked to, who's been offered, who we've turned down or turned us down. But me knowing about it isn't going to help get the team a better player.

I want to get this over with and get on with picking up the pieces of this season. I want it over so Ron will never ever again destroy a Pacers season while wearing a Pacer uniform. But I want to get the most value we can for Ron. If that means waiting until the deadline (or next summer), so be it.

In the meantime, I'm finding a lot to watch and enjoy with the Pacers right now. Sure, there have been some bad games, some blow outs. But Granger is looking pretty good. He's not Ron, but he's got a lot potential. Harrison is finally getting some minutes. Saruniuns (sp) is getting more minutes with Tinsley out, so that should accerate his development. Freddy has broken out of his early season funk - but I'd still trade him if I could.

Sure, there is still a cloud over the franchise, and will be until Ron is gone. But there is some interesting things happening on the court, too. And for all the turmoil, we are still a playoff team. A 2nd round exit playoff team, but a playoff team. Try not to get too distracted by what you hear and don't hear. It will be over soon enough.

Wow, that post went in a direction I didn't intend. I haven't posted much lately so I guess it just kinda flowed out here. Oh well. It happens.

Walsh lies - and admits it. Check the Pacers media guide from (I think) 2 years ago. He discusses some of his moves. In particular he said he gave the impression that he wasn't looking anywhere close to Reggie when he drafted him but gave the appearance of going in another direction. The term he used was, "I lied."

There were 2 or 3 other examples he gave but that was the one I remember clearly.

Which I don't have a problem with. I do have a problem with anyone who automatically thinks, "DW said it so it must be true."

Not giving information about trades, or FA pickups do not bother me in the least.

Its the false injury reports, cover ups of locker squabbles, migrane-gate, and all the other crap that the Pacers routinely lie about that pisses me off.

There's things that should stay in an organization, just like there's somethings that should stay in your family circle.

I don't want them airing their dirty laundry in public, especially in today's world where anyone can be traded at the right price.

"If he's there, I'm drafing Kenny Walker."

"If he's there, I'm drafting Kenny Walker."

David Stern, "With the fourth pick in the 1986 draft, the Indiana Pacers select... Chuck Person".

And the Knicks, with the #5 pick and coveting Chuck Person, did not trade around the Pacers to take him, and were stuck with Kenny Walker.

That was DW's first move. Maybe his second - now I don't remember if Jack Ramsay had been hired before or after the draft. But it set the tone for the rest of his career.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Seems that the way you react to knowing that Donnie doesn't always tell the truth is similar to the way a child might react when finding out Santa doesn't really have a sleigh or reindeer.

It is hard to be a successful businessman who doesn't twist or stretch the truth.

The other thought is, how do you know he did talk to Geoff Petrie? Seems to me in my life the only way you really can or can't know if something happened is if you are there yourself. Secondhand knowledge is just that, second hand.

Did Walsh get a law degree before or after coaching the Pacers?

What you have to pay attention to is that they are going to trade Ron. Throw out the rest of the Perry Mason stuff. Donnie Walsh is trying to do a deal, and he's going to the table with 3 of his 5 cards exposed thanks to Ron's habit of talking before his brain is engaged. Sometimes people have to be told everything. Just know that if you could look at the big picture, you probably wouldn't focus on all the little stuff along the way, but again, you can thank the person who has it coming to him, and that's Ron Artest!

You can pull your hair out thinking about the little bits, but call me passive, I see where it's all going. It's not about getting back at Ron, and it's not that they want Duncan, it's about bringing the right person into the organization and doing the necessary work that goes into scouting in fine details who that person is, and then putting the right deal together to get him. Poor fans just get confused by it all and feel apathy towards the process, but it's all for a reason, all the details big and small. When it's over you'll probably understand more about trades - I think we all will!!!

I understand why he does it. That's why I echoed DisplacedKnick. I'm not confused by any means. I was only fascinated that he was caught in such a clear fib.

Several years back the Star interviewed Donnie and he said during trade time he always lies.

They lie all the time when dealing with these things. Let's call it a little "Pacer" lie. For example, Rick is very tricky when it comes to telling the media who is available (not injured) for a game.
