    Default Gerald Green to NBDL

    Saturday, January 7, 2006

Boston Celtics Assigned forward Gerald Green to Fayetteville of the NBA Development League.

    ---------------------

And some here thought we should've taken him instead of Granger! Oh, the difference one draft position spot can make - right Boston?

While I agree, chill before you make fun of Boston...kid wasn't expected to make an impact this year or the next really. If there was an NBDL 8 years ago, Portland would've sent J.O. there. Does that mean he would've been a failure? Nope. These high school kids just need more time. Same pretty much goes for KG, Kobe, Rashard Lewis, and T-Mac. They all needed one year AT LEAST to fully get it. LeBrons, Howards, and Amares are rare. That's why Stern doesn't want them in the draft.

Yes, it's not like there isn't a 4-year age difference between Green and Granger...

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

I think it's the right move, for this season at least, and really, it was the right move for both teams where they drafted. Boston is in the middle of a youth movement, so drafting a guy who might be dominant in 4 years is fine, because that's about the time the rest of their guys will be in their prime. For us, waiting 3-4 years for a guy just isn't feasible, especially with the recent past of Bender. We needed a mature player who was a good citizen and ready to play soon, and that's what we got.

I don't know why the Celtics waited so long to send Gerald Green to the NBDL , they had not used him even once in a game this season.

Don't understand why the Sonics have not done it with Robert Swift their high schooler from last season who sits on the inactive list on a nightly basis.

They may have been good "practice" players... See Bender 24.

    Me too.

Nothing wrong with being sent down. Although, I'm glad we took Ron at this point. If Ron hadn't wigged out things might have been different, but turns out we had a major need at SF.

Jerm, where'd you hear that about him hating it there?

It sounds like a good idea but some coaches don't buy it. LB has said publicly that he thinks players get more out of sitting on the bench and practicing against NBA players, getting coaching, going to games, etc., than going to the NBDL.
