Default Danny Granger = Andrei Kirilenko?

Does anyone else see a resemblance between Danny's game and Andrei Kirilenkos? Neither are great scorers, but both are great rebounders and defenders, and they're almost the exact same size - both 6-9, Danny 228, AK47 225.

AK-47 is something out of this world. We should trade Artest for him.

    I know......I'm a dreamer.

AK47 is a very good comparison.

AK is much better at taking his man off the dribble.

AK is definantly a freak shot blocker, and while Danny is a nice shot blocker hes definantly not on the same level, but other than that they really seem similar to me. I think Danny could end up a better offensive player tho. But rebounding, steals, passing etc close.

Deleted my last comment as it may have been offensive.

AK47 is a much better player at the moment then Granger. Granger could potentially be as good but we'll see in time.

I think the comparison is rather off despite it being Granger's rookie year. If you are looking at aspects other then the 2 things that AK47 mainly excels at considering that he is more of a SF then PF...his ability to steal the ball and blocked shots.....then I can say that they are somewhat comprable. But in the "steals the ball and block shots" department.....there is no comparison. Granger has enough athleticsm to block a shot or two now and then and even a pretty good thief....but he is no where near AK47 is when you compare those 2 aspects of their game.

AK-47 can do EVERYTHING on the basketball court at both ends of the court.

If he played in Phoenix or Dallas he would put up MVP numbers.

I'd love Danny to be something like AK-47 some day, but I'm not sure that he has the same basketball instincts and he lacks the freakish length.

A more apt comparison might be a young Robert Horry.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

He has a 7'2" wingspan. If that's not up there in the "freakish" category, where is it?

I like Ron's comparison of DG to Scottie Pippen. The smooth way he glides around the court.... and his physical build are creepy similar.

He has similar shot mechanics.... DG appears to already have a pretty polished post game and plays tough defense on the perimeter and the post.

He just needs time and experience to improve his perimeter shot and the confidence and freedom to be more of a decision maker and ball handler.

Pippen may be the best comparison I've seen so far regarding his game. Last night I was thinking that the Prince comparison is good one but also thow in some Richard Jefferson and there ya have it. The Pippen one may be more apt though.

I don't think he has got the ball enough to compare him to anyone yet.
I just know he has had a lot thrown at him and hasn't disappointed anyone yet.

    Comparing rookie stats

    Name..Marion..Kirilenko..Prince..Pippen..Granger
    G........ 51...... 82...... 42...... 79....... 28
    GS..... 38....... 40...... 5...........-........ 6
    MPG.. 24.7.... 26.2.... 10.4.... 20.8.... 19.6
    FG%.. .471.... .450.... .449... .463..... .434
    3P%.. .182..... .250.... .426.......-...... .250
    FT%.. .847.... .768.... .647... .576.... .787
    OFF.. 2.1..... 1.8...... .1...... 1.4...... 1.4
    DEF.. 4.5...... 3.1...... 1.0.... 2.3....... 2.4
    RPG.. 6.5..... 4.9 ...... 1.1.... 3.7....... 3.8
    APG.. 1.4..... 1.1....... .6...... 2.1...... .9
    SPG.. .75...... 1.41..... .24..... 1.1..... .79
    BPG.. 1.04... 1.94...... .33..... .65..... .68
    TO..... 1.00... 1.3..... .50..... 1.65.... .96
    PF..... 2.20... 1.90..... .60..... 2.70.... 2.90
    PPG.. 10.2... 10.7...... 3.3..... 7.9...... 5.7

This is a comparison right now. As long as Dan starts we need to remember his stats per game will climb. We also need to remember he's learning both forward positions which is hard to do because one is primarily in the post while the other is primarily on the perimeter. The thing to really note, he doesn't suffer in comparison to these players.

It's not fair to Danny to make such a silly comparison so prematurely.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Horry??? I just don't see it.

AK is a decent comparison, although Danny isn't as good as him obviously. Not yet anyhow.

But I don't really care who he compares to. I want Danny to be Danny Granger, he's really special when he's on his game out there.

Danny's stats suffer in comparison only because of his little play the first part of the season. I would be totally comfortable with him as the permanent starter at the 3. I wouldn't mind it at the 4 if we didn't have JO.

A player that comes to mind when comparing Granger is a younger ( but not as bulked up ) version of Shane Battier...minus the very solid defense ( but give him a few more years and his defense can get way better ).

He does a little bit of everything....rebounds, block a shot or two, steals the ball now and then, scores when given the chance and ( when he gets much older ) he will cause matchup problems for other SFs.
