No way the Raps trade their top pick
Jankunas is one year older than Thiago. He's probably the most intelligent young frontcourt player in Europe. Of course, he's just 6'8. I guess most NBA managers will pass him for that.
Their both teams are Euroleague contenders and play in the same group. At the moment Jankunas' Zalgiris with 6-2 is on top, Tau Ceramica - 2nd-4th with 5-3.
P.Jankunas makes 12.5ppg 7.0 rpg 1.6apg (Splitter 8.2ppg 3.8rpg 0.5apg). Paulius also can make freethrows and has threepoint shooting range.
Jankunas was the key player of under21 2005 World Champions team last summer. Btw, Reddick and Rudy Gay finished 5th in this tournament.
My first thought was that Toronto gets sonned in this trade, but then I remember that this is Jalen we are talking about. I like this trade if only because it gets rid of Rick's safety blanket. We lose Pollard, who I kind of like, but I guess that also moves Harrison up one spot on the depth chart.
You, Never? Did the Kenosha Kid?
Re-read my articles on Boozer and point out where I said it would happen where I don't say according to Jack Haley?
If you want to point out Bender - please feel free - guilty there - but no Boozer.
^is this what you heard?
Sounds great to me! Get it done Donnie.
"Just look at the flowers ........ BANG"
I'm not going to look back at my notes but if you look at the game where Jalen Rose played 34 minutes and Aaron Williams 16.
I think it was two days before then I had heard that LA had indicated to the Raptors that they were interested in Rose. The next day it was verified by another source that LA was showing interest again in Jalen.
This was in the middle of the Artest race - so I had already learned that Phil Jackson really wanted Artest and that the Lakers were very interested though they wouldn't give up Kobe, Odom or Bynum to get him.
There was a lot of noise about Jalen before the amnesty deadline - since the Lakers wanted to sign him if he was cut - and even considered sending their last year contracts out for him before deciding there was no way to get BOTH Jalen and Odom along with Kobe. They could technically - but the contracts would add up to a large luxury tax hit - so Laker interest waned.
With that in mind - and the fact that LA does not have enough contracts to send out for Jalen without including a piece like Mihm, Kwame or Odom . . . it made NO SENSE that LA was talking to Toronto about Jalen unless there was more to it.
I contacted one of the Jalen sources and said the only way that could be possible is if LA was sending out Odom and last years for both Jalen AND Artest.
I got a confirmation that indeed that was being discussed. Now this is not a source who works in the organization - so he could be misinformed or lying to me - but he's been reliable in past situations.
The next day was the game where Jalen and Aaron Williams (rumored to be in the deal to LA that also sent Pollard, George and Slava to Toronto) got showcase minutes.
I asked around and other voices said that LA would "consider" sending Odom for Artest.
I wrote an article hinting at a "Jurassic" deal, protecting sources at teh time. I then spelled it out in my top 10 article.
I think it was the day before X-mas - whenever I posted it in the Artest Update thread here at PD - I got from a source that is very close to the situation on the Laker end.
He spelled it out for me - the Lakers would NOT trade Odom for Artest.
I also have a Toronto source telling me they really, really want Artest and aren't likely to help LA get them if they think they have a shot.
Bottom line - my THEORY is that Toronto didn't play ball and that LA and Indy couldn't work out a deal - and that the Lakers are indeed out of the picture now.
That's my take - and will stay that until I get info otherwise from sources I trust.
Raptors IMO won't trade there top pick, unless they get someone else in return besides AJ Pollard and Slava....
I wish a 4 team deal will go down that way everyone would be surely satisfied....
Let's hope this rumor comes into reality and we get something done by the end of the week.
2007 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS & 2010 AFC CHAMPIONS
1940, 1953, 1976, 1981, & 1987 NCAA CHAMPIONS & 2002 NCAA FINALISTS
1970, 1972, & 1973 ABA CHAMPIONS & 2000 NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS
Come on Walsh get it done!
Raptors fans seem to like it. Looks like a few other boards picked up on this too.
Odom's ok, but I don't get excited about it.
If we followed this up with an SJax for Watson deal...I would be more happy. I am deathly afraid of having a Tinsley/Sarunas/Gill PG rotation.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.
Tinsley is a great player, probably the most underrated in the league if he can stay healthy. The guy does it all, yet he's being used as a scapegoat by a lot of people here. We don't lose because of Jamaal, we lose in spite of him.
Put yourself in the Toronto fans place. This would be a public execution for the franchise.
The best exercise of the human heart is reaching down and picking someone else up.
I posted this on Dec 26 as a possible trade, basing it on my common sense, Walsh's comments, RealGM trade checker, and no sources whatsoever. It's the exact trade being rumored in this thread.
Maybe that's what's causing the hype?
