Carlisle so far with the Pacers 120-69

    Coaches =
10% of the Credit for Winning
60% of the Credit for Losing..

And just remember the good ole saying...we all know it ....." It's a players League "

Then you have to ask yourself , who would you really get that could do more right now with this current roster...

If your answer is Bird..please move back 10 spaces...and you lose a turn...

Unless your only objective is to get a good lottery pick in the draft .. then yes go right ahead that would be your first step...

    Hell no.

He comes into a team known for underachievement and coaches them past the 60 win mark for the first time in team history.

Then he faces the most adversity stricken season faced by any NBA team in history and coaches them to the second round and takes the conference champs to 6 games.

Now he's faced with ANOTHER season of distractions and shenanigans and has the team WAY over 500.

Asking this question is an insult and a shame.

He's a rock. Methodical. Calculating. Safe. He always gives every change he makes a few games. The he adjusts. Then he takes a few more games.

Just what we need right now.

You're right - this winning season IS Rick's "fault".

I don't think we can answer this question until we see what we're getting back in the trade.

Rick's a "system" guy - his brilliance is not in game-to-game situations but in putting together a system that works long-term. Then his stuborness (err... patience) is rewarded.

Right now, you can tell the team is in limbo - stuck between the old JO + Ron model and whatever the new model will be. This *is not* what Rick does well.

Check the archives, plenty of us were really frustrated with him at about this time last season, too. And then the Pacers really turned it around in the spring.

    Rick just doesn't adjust quickly.

I am one of the most vocaly upset with Rick and I would not fire him right now. Ron made that impossible with his comments.

Speaking of Rick wasnt one of the things that got him booted from Detroit his refusal to start their talented but young small foreward over older veran players who clearly were not getting it done? Man that sure sounds familiar right now.

I would have thought he would have learned but maybe not, if he had I would think Granger would be in the starting lineup since it is extremely clear that our best 5 man group is Tins, Jack, Granger, J.O. and Cro.

Actually... he adjusted really quickly last season after 11/19.... at first...

Management needs to reassess the team's current position and goals. Having the new piece(s) here will obviously help that.

Barring a miracle trade, the answer should be: A championship is too many steps ahead of this team and applying bandaids is just going to stunt its growth for the future. Sooooooo can Rick be flexible enough to nurture some young talent and develop some players, and take some Jan-Feb losses, in the name of longer term progress?

And IMHO, we shouldn't be done trading once Ron is gone anyway...

We may find that Carlisle is no longer the right man for the job. Or we absolutely must address this roster much more.

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

That was a criticism, but I think the main reason he was fired was because Larry Brown was available and willing.

If Larry Brown was not suddenly available, I'm 95% sure Rick would have stayed with the Pistons.

No. He has built up a lot of credibility over the last few years. However, if he continues putting silly line-ups on the floor for the rest of the season...I would change my vote.

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

So lets see, your asking me do we fire Rick because Mo-Ron is an idiot and has destroyed the last 2 years... so far. Stupid poll.

Fire him? Hell no, I think he deserves a raise for baby sitting the last two years! (JK)

Seriously though, I don't think Rick should be fired, he's one of the top coaches in this league, and it's sad that there are so many critics. I have thought his "style" of coaching could use an adjustment because of the micromanaged play of the team, but according to recent quotes it's warranted. Maybe he just doesn't see a genuine floor leader on this team that understand how he wants things done, and can be entrusted to take care of business every time out? I'm not saying that JO's not a great leader, but rather JT. JT needs to start using his mouth to communicate when someone's not busting their backside to get after it! I think JT lacks the courage to take control over every facet of play and this has led Coach to micromanage play. Maybe if JT would take this as a challenge and tell coach, "I can handle it" and then go out and HANDLE IT, Coach might back off!

Bosses boss, that's just what they do. He's a very calm boss, I mean it's not like they got some prick from Philly that ain't had no lovin in 25 years. Coach Carlisle SHOULD be demanding, hellfire what do you want a Stan Van Gundy for a head coach? I don't.

    WTG for Coach Carlisle!!!!
