Default Is Indy the place to get your ring?

Will's thread, asking about all the trade ideas got me to thinking.

Why trade, when we can add players without giving anyone up!

The past couple seasons it has seemed like any aging vet that wanted some jewelry could sign on with the Lakers & ride the Shaq-train all the way to the championship.

That might fall apart this off season with Kobe likely to go (his option or not), Payton has expressed a desire to move on & Karl Malone has hinted at retirement.

San Antonio is also a team that has seemed to be in a similar position. With Duncan, Parker & now Ginobili, players are looking at the Spurs as a chance to get that ring.

Players, especially those at the end of their careers, like going to winning programs.

    The questions is this.....

Have the Pacers reached the point where they can draw top level free agents for league minimum money?

If not, at what point to you think that would happen?

There is always that **** poor excuse of "climate" that will play against Indiana. There is also this...Indiana? I'm not very worldly, but I just get the feeling Indiana isn't looked at much differently then Utah. Eventhough, it is almost heaven to me!

Yeah, I think the glamour of living and playing in LA has a lot to do with it. Small market teams historically have a tougher time drawing free agent interest. Who was the Jazz's last big free agent addition? John Amaechi?

But the 3 rings don't hurt either. Indy has to win at least one title before they'll get free agent interest comparable to LA's. Hopefully that'll be this year.

Why anyone would want to play in Canada instead of here is what boggles my mind.

I guess if you think about it, Indiana would be at the bottom of vacation-like playing destinations...Think about it--What other cities are looked upon as non-desirable?

    (in no particular order)
    Sacramento: in CA
    Minnesota: I don't know...Probably KG.
    L.A.: in CA
San Antonio: Warm weather/not a busy city
    Memphis: I don't know....
    Dallas: Warm weather/big city
Houston: Warm weather/on the gulf/big city
    Utah: Multiple marriages...I don't know...
Portland: Apparently for drugs...I don't know...
    Denver: I don't know...
    Seattle: Beautiful area
    Golden State: in CA
L.A. Clippers: Well, no one really goes their by their own free will, so the Clips don't really count...I guess the reason would be their "Tradition"
Phoenix: Nice weather for working out year round/close to CA
    Orlando: in FL/Disney World
Chicago: Big city/other sports teams/close to DET
    Washington: Hmm....Nation's capital/other sports teams?...
    Atlanta: Big city/weather/close to FL
    Toronto: I don't know...
    Philadelphia: Big city/historical/close to NYC
Cleveland: on a lake/not too big of a city
Boston: tradition/other sports teams /close to NYC/on ocean
New York: Big city NYC/close to BOS/tradition
    Miami: in FL
    Milwaukee: Cheese...
    New Orleans: Partying/on gulf
    Detroit: Notoriety/close to CHI
New Jersey: so close to NYC
Indiana: ...Basketball was raised in Indiana. ed: Is that all we've got to say? What does Donnie/Larry say to FA's to get them to come here?

Yeah, I was just thinking about the biggest free agents the city of Indy has had between both the Colts and Pacers. Not too many come to mind. Other then climate, Indy doesn't scream for ways of getting free agents into the lime light. We all know that if Ron Artest played for the Knicks, he would be the best defensive player to ever step on a court instead of a "debate" of who is the defensive player of the year between him and Ben Wallace. Also, the scum bag agent isn't going to make the coin off his clients for side deals in Indiana as he would in any large market city. Friends and family...."Your playin' where???"

    Small market cities...
Orlando- has climate and playground of the stars working for it.
    Milwaukee-
    Indiana-
    New Orleans-
    Utah-
    Denver-
    Minnesota-
    San Antonio-
    Seattle-
    Portland
    Sacramento

Has any of these teams landed a major free agent? I know Denver got Andre Miller, and Minnesota got Olawakandi....but these guys were restricted free agents and only got tenders from those teams. So it was go there, or another year with the Clippers. Hmm.

"We'll get you Gene Hackman's autograph!'

"Imagine half a million screaming fans ... then you leave the Speedway and go to the Fieldhouse ..."

"We're only 2 hours away from the beach on ATA!"

"Dude, we've got this box Dale Davis left in his locker, you can have it if you want."

"We'll get you Dennis Hopper's autograph!"

"First it was high school players. Next it'll be high school Pacemates. And then ..."

"We'll throw in some free chips in the new casino."

"See them possums over there? Good eatin' on 'em. Can't get that in LA, by gum."

"We'll get you Barbara Hershey's autograph!"

"Hey, at least it isn't Kentucky."

LOL. Better offer the Sam Perkins Size Dorito Bag, too.

I'd like to see us make an offseason run at Mark Blount.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

a little early for that now, but just a heads up.

guess who mark blount's agent is.

    ....

mark bartelstein, the guy who got brad miller a $70M contract

don't think blount will come up cheap...

in fact, the hype has begun already - "To me, Mark Blount is almost a replica of Brad Miller," said agent Mark Bartelstein, who also represents Miller. "He's gotten better and better. Starting the season you may have said he's a role player, but he's emerged. I don't think anyone will say anymore he's a bench player."
