Pacer Girl: Jalen came off the bench against Atlanta and actually gave the Raptors some productive minutes (15 points in 21 minutes off the top of my head). When Sam Mitchell used Jalen off the bench last year, he was just as efficient. But, if you're going to use him off the bench, the key is that you actually have to start going to him for shots; otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

Last night against the Nets he was inserted into the starting lineup because Mike James is injured. Jalen went back to his unproductive play, and Mitchell benched him. Leading me to Soup...

Soup: I like Sam Mitchell. He has an awesome relationship with the guys, and he tells things like they are. He let's the players know exactly what is expected from them, and if they don't do it, he sees no shame in benching you (ie. Jalen). Jalen has been upset that he's gotten the bench treatment in the dying minutes of games, like last night. But Sam took him off for defensive purposes - if you aren't going to play defense, there is no point to you being out on the floor. Joey Graham was more than willing to work his tail off on the defensive end, and thus Sam played him.

That's what I like about him - he doesn't get caught up in the name game, and people's reputations. He plays who deserves to play. When he puts his second unit on the floor, he's looking for some energy. And, if that second unit starts to bring the energy and forms a comeback - he KEEPS THEM ON! What good is it to take them off when they're in a groove and mounting a comeback, only to put the starters back on? I think some coaches could learn from this...

I also love Sam's demeanor on the court. He's constantly up, encouraging his guys (last night he was absolutely willing the Raptors to victory), and he is always talking with the refs trying to get them to watch for certain things.

I'm still pissed about Thursday night's call in the Lakers at Jazz game...

!.) Kobe wasn't touched until after the horn sounded and even then it wasn't a foul since he got the shot off first.

2.) Who calls that foul anyway?

Watching the suns, I'm beginning to wonder if it hasn't been Nash making Amare Stoudamire into an all-star, and not the other waya round...

Toronto down by 3 points with 12 seconds left. Mo Peterson goes for the 3 pointer, misses - gets his own rebound.

Runs behind the 3 point line - hits it.....

    Game into overtime.

EDIT: Jose Caulderon with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assits. Mo Pete shooting 7/10 from the field, 4/5 from 3-point land.

Chancey Billups is a really good player, I like his mature, calm, effective game, he should be starting in the All-star game. Is there any East PG worth putting in there over him? Probably. Knowing me I'm forgetting some really good player... but it's not hitting me right now.

I've been talking with other Piston fans about this for a month now.

Iverson obviously will start for the east at PG, but I don't consider him a PG.

I won't call Billups the best PG (Nash and Baron are having great seasons too) but he's definately an all-star.

TJ Ford was making a run at Chauncey earlier, but he's fallen off.

Yeah, of course, Iverson. I feel the same way about him as you do, but obviously he'll start.

I don't know, if I had to pick one PG to lead my team, it'd be tough to not pick Billups...

Billups is the only PG in the NBA that is a premire defender, passer and scorer at his position.

Nash is obviously a better offensive player. Baron is more explosive. But neither plays very good defense.

That and Billups is younger, less injury prone, big-league clutch, and functions on a slow, grinding team just as well as a run and gun.

The Hawks lose to the Nugz tonight in a tight game. Baby Al had 35 points, 9 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 3 TOs. Not too shabby.

Lebron is officially the biggest crybaby in the NBA.

Does anyone whine to the refs more than him?

I think the losing is starting to get to him.

On that note, is there a more ridiculous team in the NBA than Atlanta? 4 wins, and 3 of them come against the Spurs at home and Indiana and Cleveland on the road....

The Clippers are proving to the Spurs right now that they ARE a legit contender in the west.

They match up with the Spurs so well. They have the size to counter duncan, and the big physical PG that Parker hates playing against.

I'm watching this game now. Duncan just got hurt?
