Default How'd Bender Do Against the Heat?

Yes.. the title was sarcasm. I saw he didn't play but I didn't hear why. I mean he played about 1 minute against Orlando so this isn't the 'no back to backs for Bender' rule in play is it?

Why not put him on the newly formed "inactive" list if he's not going to play? They've consistently said since this summer that he's going to be phased in. He probably won't see back to backs for the first few months.

It is what it is. This team will use him when they can, see how he develops, and see if he can stay injury free. But as long as we show the depth we did against Miami, the Pacers have that luxury.

I'm sure he played more than the minute I said but he didn't play much AND I was under the impression the team dismissed his not returning as to do with matchups.

Maybe he impressed someone in those few minutes enough to immediately call DW about a trade... at which point TPTB put him on ice until the trade could be consumated.

    ...or not...

So, did the radio give a reason he was sitting?

That's exactly what they did. Activated Eddie in his place, probably as a precaution against Wade and Payton killing our guards.

So he can only play 8 mins when he does play and that uses him up too much for him to play any in a back to back?

Slick and Mark said that he was out with a sore right knee. If its sore after only 8mins @ Orlando then that doesn't bode well.

Great gravy, bball, give it a rest. We get it. You don't like Bender.

    Enough already.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

I have to agree. There's been a lot of funny stuff along the way, but sooner or later it gets old. That time's here for me, personally.

I guess im a little confused. Bball shouldnt post that Bender sucks because:

    1. Bender doesnt suck?

    2. Bender sucks but we are all in denial.

    3. Bender sucks and we could have had James Jones with Bender's salary but we should pretend that he doesnt suck.

    4. Bender sucks but once his knee rehabs he will dominate the league and be KG with a jumpshot.

the Bender koolaid drinkers are apparently out tonight.

You know, I'm re-reading my posts and I still don't see what is irking some of you?

Was there some skepticism? ...cynicism? Yes...

But it was also a serious question I asked (why did he not play?) and I never said he sucked. I'm not sure I've ever said he sucked.

I think it is the repetitiveness of the theme.
"They could turn out to be only innocent mathematicians, I suppose," muttered Woevre's section officer, de Decker.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."

Actually, the repetitiveness was the answer we got: "sore knee".

Even the Bender fans have to admit that if 8 mins was enough to relegate him to the bench it doesn't bode well for the season (for Bender).

    I. No. Longer. Frikking. Care.

You've got one of the best basketball minds on the forum, and you **** it away making inane sniping posts at a player we know you hate. All of your posts in the past month have said the same thing. You don't like Bender. We get it.

Move on with your life, man.

When Bender came in against the Magic I literally didn't know who he was. I hadn't seen any preseason games and had forgotten he was on the team. When they showed this tall guy, number 24 from behind I thought it must be Samaki Walker.

Well, being a Bender apologist this pains me greatly...but they ARE saying in the Star that it was Bender who said it was too sore to play and that he might have to not play the 2nd games of b2b's for awhile.

I'm about to give up on the guy myself and hope that we can retire him and have the insurance pay off his contract. Not quite there yet, but getting close.
(edit: Here's one for the archivists...how many times has Bender missed a game in which the Pacers were playing a Shaq led team??? Yeah, I just MIGHT be calling him that)

To BBall....keep on keepin' on man. Yeah you can be ascerbic about Bender...but how many of us are just as ascerbic about Artest/Gill/Tinsley/JO/yada yada. IOW, I have no problem with BBall's Posts.
Now Peck OTOH, I can NEVER strive for Poster of the year as long as he's around.

    Bender out

The original plan called for Pacers forward Jonathan Bender to be in the lineup Thursday even though it was the second of back-to-back games.
Those plans changed when Bender said his right knee was sore.
"He said he couldn't play," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "We weren't approaching it like he would play (against Orlando) and not play (against Miami). It's a situation we're aware of. He's worked himself back to the point where he can play. We'll just play it by ear."
Bender said the decision was a precaution and that he might sit out the second of back-to-back games during the early part of the season.
"If he's not able to play on the second night, then we just won't play him," Carlisle said.
With no other big men available, the Pacers activated point guard Eddie Gill. The ideal player to activate would have been Scot Pollard, who is out with a calf injury, but Pollard hasn't gone through a full practice.
"Three days ago it looked like it might be a possibility," Carlisle said about Pollard. "He is doing better. It's just not the right time to push it. Also, if we would have did it, he would have been playing a game without almost any practice time leading up to it, which would have been hard. It makes it tough because he does a good job on (Shaquille O'Neal)."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

The quote I highlighted is the one that bothers me the most. As a player, if you are any kind of competitor at all and you say you can't play on it then it must be more than just "sore".

we should just not play Bender until the playoffs. Bust him out for the playoffs have him play 8 minutes a game for a short scoring burst.

But if he's injured all season it will have no impact on us winning a title. Between Granger/Saras/harrison....I doubt many of us are gonna be praying for Bender to see minutes. (and i absolutely love Benders game)

Assuming Cro isn't starting, I'd rather him be in for JO than JB. He deserves it 100 times over compared to Bender.
