Fred Jones. Needless to say I was shocked that Fred was the sixth man after the crapfest he put up in pre-season. But he played solid last night, more solid than he did all pre-season. As long as he understands that his defense is what will keep him on the floor Fred will have a spot in the rotation.
Crapfest. Another funny word along with nutmeats and cumquat. Sorry Will.

    Default OTHER Random Thoughts

In an effort to clean up the Pacers board, I've begun cracking down on random replies posted on that board. For the time being, they're going to get sent to this thread, where if you want to further those replies, that's fine.

The two above were posted before this thread was written, so they're above this post.

I have always called Jeff Foster Hulk. Although I am new to these boards so maybe you guys don't.

Why did this get moved here? It seems on-topic, although I admit I haven't given it a complete examination yet.

I think I'm just going to start replying to threads in this thread.

Then help me out, please, what opinions - of Pacers fans, mind you - were SO FAR OUT THERE in this thread that made it unreadable?

The one I called completely asinine.

A team led by Jermaine O'Neal will not win a championship.

JO has started the season doing the very things that show me he's a talk tough leader, but that's about it: whining and posturing.

What was sad about his little glare is look at the situation. This wasn't a playoff game. This wasn't even a division game. And it's againt Orlando. He felt the need to posture against them?

I wondered if the crowd kinda laughed at him cause I thought it looked stupid at home. It just looked like false bravado. It's like the watching a high schooler beat up a jr high kid, then thump his chest. He was supposed to win.

You know when you give a staredown?

When it's a Knicks/Pacers playoff game and Dale Davis lays a pick on Charles Oakley so hard it puts his *** on the floor. That's when a staredown is effective.

When Jordan is going off for 50 points and the other team can't stop him after telling the media they can "contain" him. That's when a staredown is effective.

Mutombo's finger wag was born of him being a dominant force in the paint. You literally didn't try to take stuff in there. It was born of him being four time defensive player of the year! Deke has earned the right to wag his finger. That has some weight behind it when he does it.

Jermaine wasn't even dominant in the game!! At least that might make it a little better. As it stands, he just looked like a posturing idiot.

I'd say the same thing to Antoine as I would to Jermaine. Pick the right situations and earn the right to have a "signature move".
    Are you kidding me?

Skaut makes an interesting observation about JO's "false bravado" leadership... nothing new there, but its an interesting twist on it with a bold, and admittedly unpopular prediction.

By the way, Skaut, I've got something for you:

    Welcome to the club.

Then he makes an excellent point, agreed to by many others in the thread, that there is a time and place for posturing and Game #1 against a not-very-good Orlando team is not the time nor place for it.

Now I don't agree with him at all regarding Mutombo, and I've stated before that I think Mutombu is an outright disgrace to sportsmanship and I think its a real Trav-Sham-Mockery that he's ever been awarded a "good citizen" award.

But really, Skaut's post was certainly not unreadable, although you guys have backed off that accusation.

And it wasn't really asinine (Websters, "utterly stupid"), either. You don't agree with the conclusion he's already drawn, and that's what makes the forum go-round. On the other hand, we've been showing a tendency as a forum lately to confuse well-grounded opinions we happen to disagree with as stupidity.

I don't mean to pick on you, Soup, so hopefully this doesn't sound too personal, because its also based somewhat on Jermaniac's rant last night, but goodness gracious sakes alive, if you want a place where everyone is going to agree with you, startup a blog. This isn't "Sunshine Digest" and its not "Dark Side Digest". Its Pacers Digest and we've got Pacers fans from all points on the spectrum.

And after all that, let me just say that I loved the game David Harrison played last night. He needs more minutes.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you
