I think my son's gotten pretty good for an amateur.

Here's a picture of a mountain he took a couple of months ago with his Kodak C340 and the auto setting. He's pretty proud of it.

My pictures from the Redskins game sucked (My first time really using a digital camera)

I did, however, get some great shot of Cooleys back side.

I got a bunch of great cheerleader shots, which is super coolness awesome

Wow, I would use up the whole 4gb on the card really fast with that kind of scenery to shoot!

    Thanks for sharing...

I think we will be getting balcony seats for the Oct.11 preseason game, and will probably try to work our way down to Row 1 in 224 or 225...I may see you there!

I really enjoyed this thread; anyone wanting to talk photog, keep the threads coming!

No, it's just an anonymous mountain somewhere along Trail Ridge Road.

My wife bought herself some fancy new digital camera so she gave me her old one.
It's a small Kodak Easyshare CX6330 and I can slip it in my pocket in the tree this year.

I don't know what her's is but it takes exceptional pictures.

I didn't notice you with a camera when you were visiting MR...not hassling with it that night??
I only take it a couple times per year. Since its a film SLR, I don't like watching the game through the viewfinder for very long. Maybe when I'm up to a digital SLR with a big display screen I'll use it more often.

Here's Long's Peak (from Bear Lake)

And for those of you that know how easy that is, here's Dream Lake. I was standing on a glacier, it was still too early in the season to get up to Emerald Lake.

What about the Panasonic digital cameras?

    http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06...nasonictz1.asp

That is the DMC-TZ1. Below is features of DMC-TZ1K. I'm not sure what the difference (unless the K is just the black colored model).

    Panasonic Lumix® DMC-TZ1K Digital Camera

5-megapixel: The Panasonic Lumix® DMC-TZ1K digital camera delivers stunning pictures with 5-megapixel resolution.

Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens: The integration of a retractive lens with folded optics technology makes it possible to pack a powerful 10x optical zoom (equivalent to a 35–350mm lens on a 35mm camera) into a compact camera.

Extended zoom: The extended optical zoom function, which magnifies the image with minimal deterioration, boosts the zoom power to a maximum 12.5x.

Venus Engine™ III: The Venus Engine™ III provides a high sensitivity ISO 800 setting that captures images with minimal noise at full resolution. The higher ISO setting minimizes the motion blur that can occur when you're shooting a moving subject, particularly in dim lighting.

MEGA optical image stabilizer: Don't worry about shaky hands—shots are clear with this image stabilization system, even at full zoom.

High sensitivity mode: Shoot bright, beautiful indoor shots without a flash. This remarkable shooting mode allows you to shoot at up to ISO1600.

MegaBurst® consecutive shooting: The DMC-TZ1K has a super-fast response that lets you snap off consecutive shots at three frames per second with full resolution.

Linear AF system: Choose from several auto focus modes—spot, 1-point (normal or highspeed), 3-point high-speed, and 9-point—to suit the scene you're shooting. The linear AF system achieves outstanding focusing with speed and precision.

2.5" high-angle LCD: The 2.5" high-resolution LCD monitor makes it easy to see text and small thumbnail images. Enjoy easier viewing when holding the camera high, with the high-angle shooting function.

Versatile time functions: If you select a travel destination, the camera calculates the time difference from the time in the clock setting and displays the local time. Or, input the time and date of your departure and the DMC-TZ1K will display your photos according to the day of the trip each photo was taken.

Scene modes: Three new scene modes for travel use include aerial photo, beach, and underwater.

Memory: This digital camera comes with a 13.2MB of internal memory. Get the most out of your camera by adding a 512MB or larger MultiMediaCard or SD memory card

I would have to say that is a nice package for under $300. It should shoot great shots, but I'd be careful getting photos from the balcony...Overall nice camera...

Sony makes some good stuff, for certain.

The only real thing I don't like about them is the memory stick...

Okay, just got my Rebel XTi.

Can't wait to take some mountain/ skiing pictures in a week or so.

And I two new lenses (28mm f1.8 USM and 100mm f2 USM) that will go nicely with my 50mm f1.4 USM. Traded in the old zooms for some nice Primes.

Time for an incredibly stupid question...

Can the LCD be used to compose the picture instead of the viewfinder? Or does it just display the camera settings and then then a preview of the picture after you press the shutter? I'm quite used to the viewfinder, and I'm glad I saved my old eyepiece extender from our old Rebel film body, but I've gotten to like the LCD over the past few months with our PowerShot.

Thanks. That was becoming obvious, but I haven't figured out all the buttons yet.

I've had one for a few months and I still haven't had time to play with all of the buttons.

Overall it must not've been worth the upgrade from my old Powershot G2, though, since I haven't had one "Hey, MR, I saw your pictures thread. Did you get a new camera?" or "Did you get a new camera or closer seats?"........

I haven't seen any photo threads from you recently until this newest one...I can definitely tell they are better quality, but until I read this post I figured you didn't cut the file size down as much when you made the slideshow...

I love the new format, and glad you like your Mac....

Incidentally, if anyone wants to sniper me, I will be at tonight's game against the Hawks in Section 19, Row 20...gotta hate free lower bowl tix!!

The only thing I can really mention to you and Jay is to read the manual for the XTi....I learned quite a bit, and given what the two of you obviously already know about photography, it will help you figure things out faster. For reference, when I shoot with my Rebel XT, I shoot in Aperture priority (Av mode), set my ISO to at least 800 (sometimes 1600), and have the white balance set on tungsten directly rather than auto white balance. I have experimented quite a bit and it seems to me that not leaving the white balance up to the camera to figure out produces better photos...

Glad you guys got the upgrades, and hope you like them. Jay, great choice on the prime lenses. Those should be fantastic for your skiing shots. From the lower bowl (where I believe you have your season tix) you should not need a zoom lens unless you really want to perv on the Pacemates....of course, I usually have that covered....

Interesting, I alternate between Tv and Av modes because I can never figure both out at once so I let the camera pick the other setting.

Setting the ISO is going to take some getting used to. I always just dropped in professional ISO 400 speed film from the 'fridge in the past.

And I agree from my mini-DV video camera that leaving the White Balance up to the camera can be disasterous. I'm already in the habit of taking a blank white sheet of paper with me everywhere I take the video camera just for that purpose. Especially if there is flourescent lighting involved.

Ok guys, I need help getting a new camera as well. Mine was stolen (*******s), so I'm looking for something around 200, but decent quality of course. I found this:

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon...oductDetail.do

But any other suggestions would be helpful. Camera brands, etc. Thanks!

    Just saw this, sorry!

Don't know much about Casio, but I would suggest checking it out at www.steves-digicams.com . They are an excellent source of comprehensive reviews. They have great photos of the cameras from all sides and sample images taken with it also...Great site for comparisons...
