    Default Goofy Names

British office compiles list of odd names

LONDON (AP) -- Horatio Hornblower is an odd name, but consider his siblings: Azubia, Constantia, Jecoliah, Jedidah, Jerusha and Erastus. Rene Jackaman, archive assistant at Cornwall County Record Office, found all those names after coming across a real-life namesake of C.S. Forester's fictional naval hero in county census records.

The Hornblower name has been on record for centuries.

Inspired by that discovery, staff and researchers at the Cornwall Record Office compiled a list of more than 1,000 unusual names found in censuses as well as in births, deaths and marriage records going back as far as the 16th century.

"My all-time favorites are Abraham Thunderwolff and Freke Dorothy Fluck Lane," she said.

Other discoveries included Boadicea Basher, Philadelphia Bunnyface, Faithful C0ck, Susan Booze, Elizabeth Disco, Edward Evil, Fozzitt Bonds, Truth Bullock, Charity Chilly, Gentle Fudge, Obedience Ginger and Offspring Gurney.

Levi Jeans was married in Padstow, Cornwall, in 1797.

Other remarkable duos in the marriage records included Nicholas Bone and Priscilla Skin, joined in wedlock in 1636; Charles Swine and Jane Ham in 1711; John Mutton and Ann Veale in 1791, and Richard Dinner and Mary Cook in 1802.

When I was in school, I dated a girl with the last name Dick. That in and of itself is not unusual. What is unusual is that she told me her mother's name was Sharon.

    Sharon Dick. Get it?

LOL! That reminds me of another name of an acquaintance. Richard Dragon, but he actually insisted that everyone call him Dick Dragon.

I never knew anyone with a strange name, but this reminds me of all those book jokes, like Under the Bleachers by Seymour Butts, Revenge of the Tiger by Claude Balls, The Yellow River by I.P. Freely, etc.

My father-in-law is Harry Richard "Smith".

Back in my lifeguarding days, the fine young Jr. High school aged kids of Greenwood would buy a pool pass for "Michael Hunt". You've heard of him, goes by Mike. On a daily basis, they'd crank-call and ask for him. And on a daily basis, the little old lady that was the pool manager would get on the P.A. and yell, "My ****, you have a phone call." And we'd try to tell her that she was making a fool of herself, I even explained it to her one time. But she would insist that really was a person with that name *beacuse they'd bought a pool pass*!!
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Did Carrie Hunt have a brother named Mike? He's a businessman. His secretary is always running around saying "Have you seen Mike Hunt?"

I forgot I had a classmate in elementary school named Mike Watch. So it sounded like you were saying "my crotch" in your best Elmer Fudd voice.
