Default Los Angeles in major blackout.

I'm only able to post this because we bought one of those battery/surge protector boxes and have cable internet with a laptop.

I have no idea when power will come back on, but the area of the blackout is huge. the Valley, Downtown, Santa Monica and many other communities are out, including traffic lights, which in LA is just plain bad.

By comparison, this is like saying an area from Kokomo to Indy to Bloomington is out, only with 10 times the people.

My batteries won't last long, so if you don't hear from me, it's because I'm "posting" on an old IBM typewriter.

Have Fun PD! See you in the dark ages!

Have they found the cause? Didn't Al-qaeda just issue warning that an attack was coming that way? Good luck man, use the flux capacitor if need be.

I have power. Maybe you should try paying your electric bill.

    It wasn't my fault!

    It was the ADMINISTRATION!!!!

Power is back on after a couple of hours in darkness. The power company is saying that the city is experiencing a "domino" effect caused by a failure at a single power station far away.

I have no idea what that means, I'm just glad that my beer is going to be cold tonight.

    Thanks to all well-wishers.

Why wasn't FEMA there with a generator for you as soon as the power went out? This is an outrage!

Well the story is that a guy cut the wrong wire. I'm totally serious. It's kind of disheartening to learn that the entire balance of the Los Angeles economy hangs on a single wire.

Power was out for the afternoon, and then after it came on, Comcast's internet service went out for a couple of hours. I had to run to a Starbucks (who uses T-Mobile, not comcast) to meet a deadline.

The police response was actually quite fast, especially considering that LA has one of the worst cop to citizen ratios in the country. My wife was downtown and made it the 20 miles home without much difficulty. The major intersections she had to go through to get to and from the freeway were all well manned and moving.

    All is well. Crisis averted.

You really gotta feel sorry for that guy. Humiliated, dejected, and probably jobless
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Gee, I kind of enjoyed living on the 11th floor, working on the 6th floor, and having no electricity of water for 2 days. If it had happened a week later I would have already moved and missed all the fun.

Well, the power supply for the entire Eastern Seaboard apparently rests with one substation (or was it line?) in Ohio ...

Correct me if I am wrong but it wasn't that Los Angeles hangs by one wire or that a guy cut the 'wrong' wire but that he cut multiple wires at once and created a short. IOW, cutting one wire at a time was OK... cutting two or more and shorting them thru the wirecutters was bad.

Or else terrorists strike again and our government sweeps it under the rug. Much easier to tell the public that a faceless worker had a brainfart than to tell us terrorists were able to disrupt a portion of our power grid. Hmmmmm

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

By allowing, if not in fact steering, the hurricane to NO Bush then had to blow up the levees causing the death and destruction in the first place. When the levees didn't fail initially they had to be blown up to accomplish the amount of suffering Bush and his cronies wanted to inflict. He also used the opportunity to get Cindy Sheehan off the airwaves.
You have an uncanny ability to find the cover-up.

I dunno - but Al Qaida has to be having fun taking notes.

Let's see - how do we kill a bunch of people and screw up the US?

Uh, cut a wire in Ohio right before we detonate a dirty bomb in NYC.

Nah - let's blow up the I-10 & I-90 bridges in New Orleans and then destroy the levee.

While we're at it - let's cut a couple of wires in LA and detonate a container ship while there's a nice breeze out of the West.

We are so vulnerable - and there's no real fixing it.

And yet... it feels so liberating somehow, eh?
