Default So how much did Big Oil jack you for today?

Gas prices went up 18-25 cents here today. I have no problem with prices going up when the cost of the gas I'm buying is more for them, but to jack up prices just to make a quick buck is a load of crap.

A major transportation corridor has been shut down, rescuers and other help is on the way, and they have to make everyone pay more because the record profits they have had the past year are not enough. If only I could ride the bus to work I would. It will be happening next year for sure.

I'm afraid to look. Earlier this week it was already 2.80.
"They could turn out to be only innocent mathematicians, I suppose," muttered Woevre's section officer, de Decker.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."

It's not that simple Ken. The gulf is where a great deal of our oil is brought in and refined, and it's been shut down. It's not about price gouging.

I know that is the reason the gas prices are going up so high but it should have effected the prices until maybe tomorrow but prices started going up before the Hurricane fully hit. Maybe it was because they had to evecuate but even at that it shouldn't have went up until early today. Not to mention that in July it was like $1.90-$2.05 and then all of the sudden it jumped to $2.50 in less than a month.

    Yeah.
In July, oil was $57-62 a barrel, Now it is $70. So it's gone up 15-20%. Gas WAS about $2/gal in July. I have a receipt from then. So gas has gone up 40%. So we got that goin' for us.

AND when oil goes up, gas goes up immediately. When oil goes down, gas doesn't necessarily follow that quickly. About 2 weeks ago, oil went down over $2 a barrel in one day. Gas didn't budge, except for one station where it was already exorbitantly high -- it went down 2.

So don't be telling me we're not getting gouged.

Bush gives oil compaines tax breaks.

2 weeks later gas prices go up.

Bush family owns stock in oil compaines.

Gas prices are quickly approaching the breaking point. I just don't believe that this economy will support gas prices much over a $3.00 national average. People think that gas goes up and that's it. Consumers pay more. It's just not that simple. Sure we pay more at the pump. That in turn eats away most family budgets in other areas, usually groceries because Lord knows you can't go without cable or a cell phone. Then, the rising gas prices cost grocers and distributors more to get those groceries to you local store. So you go to the store and you have less money to pay for your family food, and what little you have left doesn't go nearly as far because the stores have passed the additional cost of obtaining those groceries on to you in the form of raised prices. The little guy gets boned twice in this situation. Meanwhile, every Big Oil company is sitting on record profits and HUGE stores of cash rather than investing that money into more refineries or upgrading the ones we have. Now that a huge disaster has hit the area where 25% of the nations crude gets refined into gasoline, guess who is gonna get shafted again? Gas will go up, grocery prices will rise, disposable income will fall, and W will drop another billion dollars worth of bombs on Iraq and blame it all on Saddam. Just the way it's supposed to be.......

[edit]By the way, Big Oil jacked me for $30.67. It was $2.63 a gallon pretty much all over Indy. [/edit]

I live in Texas, I know where the oil comes from. I also know that there is no way that it is a 2 day turn around from refinery to pump, let alone ground to pump. The oil/gas that they had in reserve did not cost them the same to produce as it will from now on. Raising prices on gas in the store tank because you have an "excuse" is what I'm talking about. Also, the refineries on the Texas coast were not hurt, so to say production has stopped is not true.

It is no different than Home Depot raising the prices of building supplies they already have in the store because they can. Of course if they do that they get sued, but I guess that's life too.

I got gas a few days ago at $2.55/gallon and considered myself lucky. At that price, it nearly costs me 60 dollars to buy a full tank.

Gas was $3.19 at the State Street Speedway near the Wabash River this morning in West Lafayette. I about veered off the road when I saw that. Of course, that station is notorious for price-gouging and, hence, I never buy gas there.

For a decent look at gas prices, I sometimes use Indiana Gas Prices to check prices across the region.

It's a mess and it's only going to get worse.

Before Katrina we needed more refineries (lack of refineries is one reason why gas prices are so high to begin with) But now with the huricane it really is slowing production. You can have all the crude you want, but you need refineries.

The point is any lost of refineries will have a drastic effect.

Oh, and don't worry gas prices will keep going up for a few weeks here so
time lag you site will be taken care of.

(maybe the gov't should drop all taxes on gas) No they would never do that

It cost me $3.19 a gallon at Hanna and East St this afternoon.

    Say it with me...

Relax the enviromental regulations and build more refineries.

The US has not been allowed to build a refinery in over 10 years, now we are having to ration gas.

We are in a national emergency, one that will require millions of gallons of gas to fix. We have the oil, or we have the access to oil, yet we can't do anything with it.
