Default God help us, Veep signs with Atlanta for $2M

Why John, why would you leave us? Oh, that's right, you suck. Say hi to Al for us once you get to purgatory. Hopefully you can buy some decent clothes now.

    NBA report

    Edwards signs deal with Hawks

Hudson High School graduate and former Kent State standout John Edwards has signed a two-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

The deal is worth $2.08 million, according to his agent, Mark Termini.

Edwards, a 7-foot center, averaged 1.2 points and .8 rebounds while averaging 5.6 minutes in 25 games with the Indiana Pacers last season.

He made the Pacers out of training camp on a non-guaranteed contract. He was able to hang on to his roster spot after three players were given lengthy suspensions following a brawl with the Detroit Pistons in November.

Edwards' stock greatly increased following a strong summer-league performance with the Pacers, including one game in which he outplayed No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks.

I thought that was Harrison? Did Edwards light him too?

Edwards wiped up after Harrison was through with him. Bogut was a quivering mess, shaking in the corner, so it wasn't that difficult.

Ok, as most of you know I'm never one to panic, but this has pushed me over the edge. Pacers lost John Edwards. The fabric of the team, the leader, the one guy who can defend Shaq is leaving. Pacers might win 20 games this year.

Yes now is the time to panic.

Edit: if he is really worth $1M per year. wow it makes me wonder,

Thank GOD that chapter in Donnie's continual pursuit of a 7 footer with potential (read: big white stiff) is over.

This actually is the best news I have heard in weeks.

I wonder if he will go to Atlanta and become the player Peanut Butter has become in Charlotte?

So that leaves 2 spots open on the roster, possibly three with JJ going to Phx if the rumor is true....

So does that mean Larry/Donnie have something up their sleeve by way of a free agent or trade?

Actually no 14 roster spots are currently filled with players under contract.
That is not including Edwards. Now if JJ leaves then that would open up a 2nd spot.

    Why Not Us ?

I just decided that Edwards just became the most overpaid player in the league. The game after the brawl he was such a liability that Rick couldn't play him although we only had 6 players. If Atlanta trades for Kravitz my summer will be complete

You mean the guy who talks to dead people?
You know how hippos are made out to be sweet and silly, like big cows, but are actually extremely dangerous and can kill you with stunning brutality? The Pacers are the NBA's hippos....Matt Moore CBS Sports....

I'm happy for him, that he got that mcuh, though I'm glad we weren't the ones to do it. The guy couldn't get game time after the brawl, with Pollard and Foster injured, and David Harrison lacking the conditioning to play full games.

Also, watching him play always made me nervous. He didn't play with any confidence, and was as "stiff" as they come.

"Like [Jonathan Bender], AMC's Pacer was supposed to be fitted with a rotary engine--but both rotaries had technical problems late in their development (read: after incurring heavy research costs) that prevented them from seeing the light of day. Of course, both vehicles had plenty of problems that did reach production. The Pacer was a dud in terms of quality, execution and particularly styling. Make your own assessment about its bizarre proportions, but don't miss the one door that's bigger than the other."

    Well, that was unexpected.

Now that we've officially lost all of our bigmen, I'll go ahead and now.

If Edwards can get $2 million, that says a lot about the value of big men in the NBA, even really bad ones...

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

No doubt it's no secret that if you are 6'11 and over. no matter what your skill set is you are at a premium something about 7 footers gets some GM's real excited and over pay just for size.

See, so size does count huh? There's just not enough big men in the league, it's all atheletic guards/Forwards.

actually I have a question, when was the last draft that had an ample amount of centers? What year was it and who were they?
