Two possible trade scenarios for after the season

1st time poster to Pacers Digest.

I have a couple of trade scenarios that I find interesting. I was just wondering what the reast of you think.

Trade #1: All Harrington, Ron Artest, and a First Round draft pick to the Lakers for a sign and trade for Kobe Bryant.

Before everyone laughs and dismissed this scenario outright, it would be beneficial for both teams.

Beneficial for the Pacers: Kobe is a top 5 player in the League. Kobe's outside game would greatly clear out the middle for J.O. The trade of Harrington would give more playing time to Cro and Bender.

Beneficial for the Lakers: Lakers would be losing Kobe for nothing as a Free Agent. Artest is an All-Star player who is still improving. Harrington gives the Lakers the 4 position that they have been needing for years.


Trade Scenario #2: Al Harrington and (Either) Jeff Foster or Scot Pollard for Eric Dampier.

Beneficial for the PAcers: Dampier would give the PAcers the inside prescence that they have needed since the loss of the Davis' and Smits. Also create more playing time for Cro and Bender

Beneficial for G.S.: Again, they are getting some talent back for a player that could leave with no compensation. G.S. would be getting a still developing Harrington who has the POTENTIAL to improve dramatically, as well as filling the empty Center spot with a servicable player.

If either went down I'd be OK with it, assuming Kobe's found innocent. Artest is the best defender in his position, but Bryant is certainly no slouch, plus he'd be babied by the refs.

He and JO together would be lethal.

However, I think this is highly unlikely to happen.

#2 I like as well, and actually half expect something like it to really go down this summer. I'd welcome it.

#2 seems more plausible, if not downright likely.

#1 ain't gonna happen. Why? Well, certainly Kobe's celebrity shines brighter than JO's, but I think Kobe is a little tired of sharing the spotlight with anyone. Kobe wants to be Mr. Franchise. When the championship trophy gets hoisted up, Kobe wants no speculation as to who was primarily responsible for bringing it home (think Tim Duncan). He's going to Memphis. Or Orlando, in a sign-and-trade deal involving McGrady. With either team, Kobe gets what he wants.

I would be OK with #2 if it were Pollard but I dont want to lose Jeff for a career underachiever.

I dont want Kobe. He is a good player but no thanks. How about Harrington, Jones and Bender for T-Mac. I could go for that.

I wouldn't want the first one. Artest is only going to get better and as much as we need another outside-inside scorer I wouldn't want to lose Artest's defensive skills.

The 2nd trade I would make in a NY minute. Although I agree with Bulletproof if Fosters included we should get somebody else.

Yes, you are correct. The trade checker is still based on 03/04 salaries.

Those salaries still can be used, if the trade is made before July 1 and Dampier does not opt out of his current contract. Trades are allowed once a team's season is over as long as all the players in the trade have contracts for next year.

1. The Kobe trade would not work because he is going to have agree on where is going. If he would not go to the Hornets just for his rookie contract he will not come here.

2. I don't care if we could get Damp back for Primoz and Kenny, Larry Bird got rid of Dampier because he is lazy. Has Damp ever done anything good outside of a contract year?

Even if GS was willling to trade Damp we can't afford his next contract. He is gonna want a ton of money and some stupid team out there is gonna pay it. Not us.

I know the Pacers have holes to fill but they have to do it with hard working people, that is why the Pacers win so much.

You're both saying the same thing.

Remember, Damp thought he'd show the new boss that he was going to be a hardworker, so he volunteered to go to the rookie/ free agent camp after his rookie year, and its not common for players to voluntarily give up part of their summer to go through two-a-days. Then Damp was late to the first practice. Since Bird wanted to set an example for professionalism, Damp wasn't able to shake the "lazy" label. And GS wouldn't part with Mullie until we raised the stakes - we spent all summer trying to rob the Warriors but they must've been slightly better managed back then.

I've always said that if that trade didn't net us a championship during Mullin's playing days that is would be a mistake. Most on here don't agree with me, but that's not necessarily anything new...
