I actually posted this at another site and got flammed for it. I'm wondering how this site will do since it seems to be alot more mature than most sites.
Once again, I'll update this in the wake of a trade that could improve a team, so don't ***** at me about it being to early.
Indiana (i'm a homer) is flying dangerously under the radar and have arguably improved themselves the most.
Ok, let us get started now.
Number 30... Toronto Raptors.
I struggled with this decision because I wasn't sure if they would be able to pull off what the Bulls did last year or if they'd fall flat on their faces like the Bulls did the previous 6 years. Charlie Villanueva was a big mistake. That pick sickens me and yet makes me happy since the other guy being talked about at that slot was Danny Granger. I think Joey Graham was a good choice, but I'm seeing them using Bosh as a center again, and that's just wrong. I hope CB4 is ready for a long haul, because it may be many seasons before you see the Raptors in the playoffs again. I just don't see any possible way they could win 20 games this season. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.
Number 29... New Orleans Hornets.
I half-way don't think it's fair to put them up this high, because I do believe in Chris Paul, but even though the combo of Paul and Smith will be a nice, fun, entertaining thing to watch, they just haven't done anything to make their team any better. I think they'll bomb this season to, and in the process, trade Jamaal Magloire for some more depth and work on developing their young guns. They'll contend for the 30 spot.
Number 28... Los Angeles Clippers.
Clippers fans won't like this, but I care not. The Clippers have two great players in Elton Brand and Corey Maggette. They have Cuttino Mobley their too. But I'm looking at this team and seeing disappointment all over again. They won't go anywhere with Brand, Maggette, and Mobley. Sure, they'll be an effective triad, but outside them, they've got really nothing. Plus, I happen to think of Brand, and Maggette as, OK Losers. That means, 'Ok, we're losers, so what?' They lose and seem content with their millions. They're in luck, because I don't forsee the playoffs anywhere in their immediate future.
Number 27... Atlanta Hawks
They got some attention from me if this proposed Joe Johnson for Boris Diaw and 2 future 1st round picks goes thru. I happen to think Joe Johnson running the point will be a fun thing and will win them some extra games. They'll still miss the playoffs badly, but with Marvin Williams and Josh Smith, along with the steal in Salim Stoudamire and Al Harrington, this team has some weapons and some trade bait. If they are smart, they could be seeing post season action in a few seasons.
Number 26... Utah Jazz
This team could turn out different if they stay healthy. I could have put them as high as 12, but I don't like to be optimistic because being negadive is how I roll. The Jazz got my attention with the drafting of Deron Williams. Now, they just need to stay healthy and play their ball. They could be good, but I don't think the way Andrei Kirilinko plays will allow him to stay healthy a whole season, and you may see another collapse from this team.
Number 25... Charlotte Bobcats
I like what the Bobcats are doing. I really do. I think that drafting Sean May and Ramond Felton was a golden move. Now they have 3 national champions on their team, and two of them know how to play together. May and Okafor should dominate the boards, but I'm concerned about their lack of perimeter firepower. Should they take care of this soon, they could be a playoff team in a few seasons.
Number 24... Philadelphia 76'ers.
Every year I write them off, and every year they surprise me. Well, I'm not going to give them credit this time around. I think Webber's body will break and he'll play less than 50 games this season, leaving AI to lead the team. Not only will AI fail in this, but he won't be able to give this team a winning record in Webber's absence. Why I am I so nega-Allen Iverson? Because I don't believe that his body will be able to take the abuse as he get's older. He will fall, and he will break, and this team will be SOL and MIA come playoff time.
Number 23... Los Angeles Lakers
Phil Jackson... big woop. Kwame Brown... big woop. Andrew Bynum... big woop. They made improvements, but not the ones that Laker fans would love to beleive they made. Kwame Brown will be a low post force and let Odom play the 3 again, but I don't see a playoff team even with all their potential. Bynum isn't ready and the Lakers still don't have a point guard I'd put faith into. I'm sorry, but this team isn't a playoff conteder even with Phil Jackson back.
Number 22... Milwaukee Bucks
They improved themselves alot this year. Andrew Bogut and Bobby Simmons were great additions, and if T.J. Ford is healthy, they'll be a loaded team. But viewers beware, Bogut is defensively retarded and will get bullied alot, especially in the Central Division (nba's powerhouse division). T.J. Ford wasn't that great to begin with, so don't go getting all hump happy on me. Michael Redd and Simmons will be good on this team and compliment eachother, but they're still an adition or a seasoning or two from being a playoff team.
Number 21... Sacramento Kings
I think the Kings will be the NBA's bust. If they're gunna invest in Bonzi Wells as their scorer next to Peja Stojakovic, they really should think twice. Wells has a big head when you give him a big role, and not only is he a sucky 3-point shooter, but he's also a locker room moral killer. This team has no defense and their offense is dwindeling. No playoffs for you!
Number 20... Seattle Supersonics
The team lost the most important peice this offseason... Nate McMillan. Now they're looking at chemistry problems, I project. They lost Jerome James, which wasn't a huge hit, but they've also lost Antonio Daniels and may very well lost Reggie Evans. They're losing their role players, and I forsee that this will play a heavy toll on this team.
Number 19... Washington Wizards
The Wizards have replaced Larry Hughes with Caron Butler and Antonio Daniels. They would be higher, but I don't see anything up front for them. They need to fix that before I consider them to be anything more than a fluke. I think a large portion of their success was the play of Larry Hughes, and without that, I don't think they'll be a repeat playoff surprise.
Number 18... Portland Trailblazers
Don't get me wrong on the Blazers, I like what they're doing. They've got a nice young core in Randolph, Telfair, Outlaw, and Miles, but even with Nate McMillan joining their franchise, they don't have the experience to get it done. They've got all the talent in the world, but they'll need more seasoning before they get to the post season.
Number 17... Orlando Magic
The Magic did improve themselves, even though their rookie decided to go back to Europe. I think that Dwight Howard will have a monster year, an All-Star worthy season, and you'll see Jameer Nelson improve. But Steve Francis isn't the guy that should be leading this team and I feels it's imparitive for them to unload him somewhere. They're good, but not that good. No playoffs this year, guys.
Now we're in the playoffs, and if you've kept up, you now I've kept some surpises for up ahead.
Number 16... Golden State Warriors
The Warriors? In the playoffs? GET OUT! Yes, the Warriors, in the playoffs. They've been quietly banking on talent and have a loaded team now. They pulled off a lobsided deal with New Orleans when they grabbed Baron Davis for basically garbage. Now, they come into the season with a full deck of card. Baron Davis will compliment Jason Richardson, and they've also got a rookie standout in Ike Diogu. They only hole I see is in the middle. If they can get a decent center, this team could be 2nd round worthy, but for now, I'll make them an 8th seed candidate.
Number 15... New York Knicks
Another one! The Knicks have made some improvements this offseason, and have gotten alot better than you realize. First, they raped the Phoenix Suns for raping them a few seasons ago. They grabbed not only Quentin Richardson, but also promising rookie Nate Robinson. They drafted David Lee also, which was a steal in it's own. While I don't think Channing Frye will do much this season, they did stock up for the future. The concern for me is will Larry Brown be able to coach this team? Right now, they're a playoff team, but if Larry is stubborn with his, 'ALL D, Liston to me, no way, will rookie play!' Then you can kiss my humble ranking away. 8th seed, possibly better.
Number 14... Minnesota Timberwolves
Being ranked 14th is me saying KG will come back next season and lead this team to the playoffs. No way will he let his team fall down into the basement of the league. He'll get some help from Rashad McCants who'll replace Latrell Sprewell at the 2. If they stay healthy, they could secure that 7th seed, or higher.
Number 13... Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizz went from being a team I thought was going to be great... to being a team I thought was going to be a lottery rebuild, to being a team I think is going to be great again. They pulled out a steal in Hakim Warrick and were able to land Bobby Jackson. Rumor is they've signed Damon Stoudamire, and if that's true, they've got the best point guard collection in the league. The problem is, they need to deal one of the 3, and seeing as two of them just go there, you might as well say goodbye to Jason Williams, who pretty much screamed trade me when he stole a reporters pen and made his John Cena impression. Pending on what this team does the rest of the offseason, they might get ranked higher.... or lower(not likely).
Number 12... Boston Celtics
Boston... this high? Why? I truthfully just feel they're gunna surpise teams. I think Gary Payton will return, but even if he doesn't, Marcus Banks is ready to run this team. They've still got many of the peices they had last year to get them to the playoffs, and even though Antoine Walker isn't likely to return, they pulled off a steal in gaining Gerald Green. They had a wonderful draft and these kids will listen to Doc Rivers and I'm predicting they'll have a promising season. They could nab 6th or lower.
Number 11... Chicago Bulls
Hey, Chicago was wonderful last season. But they haven't improved at all, and even if they do re-sign Curry and Chandler, they'll be facing teams that have marginally improved themselves. The Bulls will have to prove to me they're better than this, but I think I'm being generious. 5th seed, at the most.
Number 10... Denver Nuggets
This is the seed for the Denver Nuggets. It's not because their coach had *** surgery. It's because they didn't improve that much, and I think they're the NBA's newest self distruction. How long before this team get's re-dismanteled and shipped out in every other direction? Not that long, I'm predicting. Carmelo Anthony is the NBA's wannabe thug, and even if the rumors of Latrell Strewell joining them are true, this team isn't in the upper decks of the league. With that said, they will still make the playoffs with ample games over .500... but won't do better than 5th seed.
Number 9... Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland improved themselves pretty good. They got LeBron a running mate in Larry Hughes, and they got a 3 point threat in Donyell Marshall. But even with all this, they still are in the NBA's power division and will struggle against Indiana and Detroit, and will get compitetion from Chicago for the 5th spot.
Number 8... Phoenix Suns
The Suns are on their way to losing Joe Johnson, and have already lost Q Rich. No way will they be as good as last season, but will still be deadly with Diaw, Jim Jackson, and Raja Bell. They won't have nearly as good perimeter shooting, but will still run, and will still score, and will still be a force in the NBA.
Number 7... Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs are still in transition and have already lost their love for Erick Dampier. They are one of those teams that always put a good team out every season, but never good enough to win a title. They're gunna lose Finley no matter what, and pending on what Finley does (could go to Phoenix and move them up a few spots) they'll be seeing some problems.
Number 6... Detroit Pistons
The Pistons lost Larry Brown and this is what I'm basing their downfall on. I don't think Detroit has what it takes to beat Indiana now that they've improved themselves, and I don't think Flip has what it takes to fill Larry jock. Detroit will still be a great team, a 50 game winner, but they're not the best team in the East or the powerhouse central division. Look for them to make some deals to try and catch up to the vastly improving Indiana Pacers.
Number 5... Houston Rockets
Some might not like they being placed this high, but I think that Stromile Swift will compliment this team nicely. I already thought TMac and Yao Ming were on their way to making Houston a title contender, but adding Swift will make them even better. They are athletic and a true point guard away from prominent title contention. I sure do wish Damon Stoudamire (a Houston resident) would have been able to sign here, then I would have given them a shot against San Antonio.
Number 4... New Jersey Nets
How did the Nets get this high? Here are my reasons. 1. Vince Carter is back. He's the Vince Carter that will be on sportscenter night in... night out... 2. Richard Jefferson will emerge, and stay healthy... 3. Atoine Wright and Jeff McInnis will give their bench firepower. 4. Shareef Abdur-Rahim now makes this team absolutely un-double-team-able. This team isn't being talked about... yet. I feel they are better than the two years they went to the Finals. Look for New Jersey to start off hot. Oh, and for those that wine about VC being injury prone, Antoin Wright gives them someone to step up and play when VC is out. And don't forget about Krstic, he'll play a vital role on this team as well.
Number 3... Miami Heat
Rumor has it that the Heat are in talks with Antoine Walker. If Walker gets to the Heat, they will contend for number 2, but I think the Heat are number 3, as of now. Shaq is a year older, Wade is a year more confident, and even though I don't think they've really improved themselves, they will still be better than Detroit and find themselves in the hunt for a trip to the finals.
Number 2... Indiana Pacers
I'm not trying to be a homer, but I just don't see how anyone can deny Indiana's marvelous offseason. First, they get Ron Artest back, which is a huge addition to a team that got to the second round last year. They got a major steal in Danny Granger who can do it all and will make the Pacers bench beastly, and the addition of Sarunas Jasikevicius who will give Indiana a 2nd ball handeler who they haven't really ever had since the days of Jalen Rose. Add that to the improvement and physical condition of David Harrison, who will probably knock your socks off, you've got a team with 4 quality players who could start for most any team in the NBA, and didn't play for their team in the playoffs last year (and took Detroit to 6 games) this team is very scary. VERY, VERY SCARY! Indiana is rumored to be going after someone with their depth, meaning they're gunna try and cash in on their depth and gain yet another rotational player. Beasts of the East, right here.
Number 1... San Antonio Spurs...
The Spurs are the champions and until the season starts, they'll remain at number 1. They've improved themselves with the signing of Luis Scola, and will probably only be better next season. This pic shouldn't surprise anyone, and so I'll wait until the season starts to start judging them.
These are my power rankings, I did not copy them, this is all my work. Feed back is welcomed.
