    Default Avatars

Recently I have been noticing lots of scantily clad women in peoples avatars. Now, I love eye candy as much as the next guy, but I read this forum in an environment where if my mom or someone were to walk in and I am reading a post with one of those avatars they would probably be very upset. I am sure there are many other people who have this same problem, especially at work.

I'm not saying that you guys should stop putting women in your avatars, but at least have them in tasteful pictures or family friendly situations.

Don't want to sound like a big Mr. Meanie here, but it's something that has been irking me.

By the way, Since86, Paris Hilton is not hot.

I second that emotion. I have been busted twice thus far by people walking behind my desk and seeing a certain "chesty" woman in a purple dress. That person happens to be an uber poster, so i have had to limit my lurking time here at work.

The best thing you can do is whenever you log on at work, go to your UserCP and turn off avatars. That way you can still read every post, but those won't show up.

Just found this out about the Opera browser (which you guys should try out). There is a handy button located by the Google search box that will turn off all images and just display text. It works just fine

That works too. If you still want to see smilies and pictures within a post, just turn off avatars.

I've met her in person. She wears so much makeup and whore clothing it makes her look like a 38 year old guy in drag. Add that to the fact that she's the shallowest, stupidest, tackiest bimbo imaginable, and I can't think of a less attractive human being.

    Except maybe Rosanne Barr.

As was pointed out in the Firefox extension thread, you can use Adblock (Firefox plugin) to block images.

    That's a pretty good idea.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Hey, be thankful yoou guys can at least read it at work. Becuase of the double secret probation section (Does anyone ever post there anyway?), the filters at work don't let me access at work, so I have to wait until after dinner, adn taking care of house stuff, returning phone calls, then I get a couple of hours to try and catch up and post a few thoughts.
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?

Do you think if you accessed PD without DSP on, you might be able to from work? For instance, you could read it as a guest maybe? Or have a work account that doesn't have DSP?

    I've noticed that.

The place is definitely less family-friendly than it used to be. We've gotten bigger.

The family-friendly part is also the part that worries me here. I can take care of myself and my work environment and all that, but I wouldn't want people to have to feel like they need to keep their kids away. Hicks, I hope you'll consider that as the site keeps growing and appealing to great posters. It's the kind of thing I would never have thought of until I had kids of my own...

I don't know what DSP is, but it probably wouldn't matter. You wouldn't believe how sensitive our filters are. Back in the RATS days, I could waste a good hour at my desk with a cup of coffee before I got to the task of pretending I was working. Now I have to actually DO something.

I don't think there's any way to get around it, Hicks. I'll give the DSP thing a try, if ya tell me what it entails. I can't even look at the site, let alone log in as a guest. When I type in thye address, the filter kicks in and a big page pops up that says "pornography."

Yeah, our filters are great. You wouldn't believe all the material it deems porn, or objectionable or R rated.

Actually I thought yours was one of those supercross motorbike guys doing a wild jump and the camera was in the handlebars or something.

Hey, I'm not trying to join the censor club, I just think there are some avatars that I wouldn't want my kids seeing if they were twelve or something. Hicks can do what he pleases, obviously. I just hope people can think of that when they pick their own avatar.

Hey, my own avatar isn't exactly a Thomas Kincade homage to the Lord or anything.

Ugh Zesty - your avatar is remarkably hard to look at now that I've run a google search on "teabag" and gotten your explanation.
