Default Indiana University Athletics Thread 2017-2018

We usually get a new one of these going in August, so let's roll it out.

Gameday will be in Bloomington at the end of the month for that classic August college football. I'm very intrigued by IU football this year. Hopefully Lagow has worked on throwing to guys wearing the same color uniform as him.

Oh, and as far as basketball recruiting is concerned, my heart is set on Trayce Jackson-Davis in 2019. Mostly because, you know, it's Dale Davis' kid and apparently he had a huge summer. I expect him to rise to a top 30-50 prospect for 2019 when the rankings are updated.

I certainly don't mind opening the season with a tougher than normal game as opposed to blowing out an FCS team, but it kind of sucks knowing we're going to be 0-1 before the game is even played.

It seems more and more likely that Phinisee will commit, but at the same time we made David Duke's top five and have another PG coming in on an official visit, so I don't know what the hell is going on. Phinisee is a solid player but there seem to be better options available. We need elite playmakers next year or we are looking at a 3-4 year rebuild which nobody wants.

Said it before: Until Phinisee actually commits, the staff is going to continue recruiting other point guard options aggressively. If/when he does commit, my guess is they stop recruiting Akinjo altogether, and maybe they keep up with Devoe and David Duke, but we are longshots to land either one of those guys, even if we did make their top 5 or 6 or 11 or whatever.

Edit: I think they will keep recruiting Garland until the end, but don't really like our odds there either. On another 2018 note, it sounds like we may have an actual shot at 5 star big man Moses Brown too.

To be fair, I didn't have a clue who that was before the last year or two.

At least go by Dave or Davey....
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

So apparently true freshmen Bryant Fitzgerald is ineligible because the school messed up and didn't accurately advise him on the courses he needed to complete to be eligible. In typical NCAA fashion, they wouldn't grant him a waiver even though he did nothing wrong and it was a mistake on the schools end, not his or the athletic departments.

It sucks for him and I feel bad for him, but ineligible is ineligible. Does that mean he can't redshirt and actually loses a year though?

Major **** up by Glass and the athletics department. It makes IU look pathetically incompetent and hurts recruiting. Purdue can use this against us with instate recruits.

Fitzgerald would have made positive contributions this year.

Rob Phinisee just committed. Decent pick up but not an immediate game-changer. I guess the dream of getting Garland is gone. Still, it is nice to nab two instate recruits Purdue wanted.

Now Archie needs to put the full court press on Romeo.

The men's soccer team is ranked #7 in the preseason and just beat #9 Louisville in an exhibition game. Good thngs may be in store this year.

Whoever the advisers are should be fired. They had one job...

They were. Their positions were listed on the IU job openings website.

That sort of screw up is just the most IU Football thing ever.

You can change the ringleaders but not the circus. IU football continues to be a dumpster fire with different people pouring gasoline on it.

Pretty unsurprising domino from the Phinisee commitment, but IU has effectively stopped recruiting David Duke, James Akinjo, and Michael Devoe now. They're still recruiting Garland, but still think we are a bit of a long shot there.

Apparently the staff likes this Forrester kid who is taking an OV soon. He isn't rated very highly but many recruits outperform their rankings. Keeping a scholly for Romeo is a must. We also need a better PG in 2018 than a freshman Phinisee if we are going to be any good.

I don't think teams should be allowed to drop the player if he's not good enough. If he's not performing academically, yes. If he's breaking the law, yes. But not if he's not good enough.
