As a scoring guard Oladipo is the same as PaulyGold, Butler and Hayward. Where Victor struggles to keep their company is on the glass and on defense, he's just not a lanky, physical wing like the other 3. And while Gordon has never been Butler or Paul on defense, he is a bigger impact than Victor.

But this is why he's a tier below them. If he wasn't then it would have made the trade for PG just stupid on OKCs part. They did get an upgrade, and not just due to a few years of progress; Oladipo is never going to be as big a star as those 3 virtually identical impact players are (I prefer Butler, but all are in the same realm of impact).

However if you have Vic and Myles and could get another player of their caliber, plus one ELITE SPECIALIST (like a Dale rebounder or a lock down defender or an assist machine PG) you could easily win a title. Elite players tend to take over, but IMO this is typically because teams don't have the vision to put together a Billups Pistons type team or they catch bad luck and don't keep them all healthy when they need them. Plus it takes a smart coach if you don't have a "just roll the ball out" superstar to carry you past your mistakes.

But it can be done. The Pacers could reasonably add those 2 other pieces and might need to change the coach (ahem, if Frank wants to return....). This year doesn't seem to be it, but within the next 2 it could come together. And that would make the PG deal a win for Indy, at the very least in terms of a salvage job.

Also Lance has the talent to be that 3rd guy, but I still have to question his focus and teamwork until proven beyond certainty (last year was not nearly enough evidence). The good news there is we will quickly get to find out how he fits with Vic and CoJo and will be able to deal as needed rather than having to let the experiment drag on. Personally I'm rooting for him cause I love the redemption story and his box office personality.

But this is about Victor and he's there already. He won't be much more and probably not an AS (although the weak East, ugh) but you'll be glad he's out there as a starter. He's definitely going to put up some highlight plays every week.
When I read your post, I think to myself that this is how the Championship of the Pistons ( the Brawl version with Big Ben, Chauncey, Rip, Tayshaun and Sheed version ) were built. Correct me if I am wrong....but none were really considered Elite / All Star Level Players until they started playing together. Each Player on that Team fit together so well where each had specific roles and places in the Starting lineup and played together as a well oiled machine.

If KP can build a roster where the Team fits and complements each other while playing ACTUAL defense, plays unselfishly and builds familiarity and chemistry over time....I'd be happy with what we end up with. That's what I'm hoping for.

^ If Oladipo can be "this" guy on a regular basis we got a great player in exchange for Paul. Plus Sabonis as a throw in. Victor won't average 37 ppg obviously but I mean if he can bring the offensive aggression on most nights where he is constantly attacking like he is here in this video.

I think KP will work more diligently and smartly than Larry did to assemble a contender.
Considering LB got us to the ECF two years running, I'd say that it is unlikely to work as well as what Bird did. However, I think Bird valued talent and potential above all else, and it led to the downfall of the locker room, compounded by a young head coach who couldn't deal with the issues.

Pritchard does seem more interested in personalities and fit, which I think is a huge part of today's NBA.

Yes we got to the EFC two years in a row but don't forget what it cost us. Kwahi Leonard, and by the way maybe we would've broken through one of those times or sooner, if Larry had drafted correctly.

We got a damn good player with the 15th pick of the draft, and you're complaining about it?! That's insane. In hindsight we should have kept Kawhi, and traded a two future seconds and cash considerations to trade back up into the 1st and draft Jimmy Butler. But who knew?

As an edit, I was at that draft party and was really excited we got Kawhi, but it is what it is.

You also forget the great point guards Larry missed out on in the Hansborough draft.

Maybe, though I still think Hans was responsible for the identity that made Vogel a coach and started us down the road to being a good team. Besides most of those players have proven to be pretty meh long term.

If that's the case, why hasn't Hansbrough instilled that identity in any of his other stops?

I think Vogel played to the team's strengths. The way the game is played has changed quite a bit since then. It's made guys like Hibbert unplayable.

As if guys being dicks has ever stopped them from succeeding in the NBA. He's too slow to defend anyone anymore. His biggest strength turned into a crippling liability almost overnight.

Or maybe someone poked his girlfriend and his head exploded? Either way, he turned crap in the middle of a season where the Pacers had the best record in the ecf. It's not like we woke up on a Tuesday and the game had changed. He just took a massive mental crap and never recovered.

Right, right, if that's what you choose to believe I won't try and stop you. Hibbert was a mental midget, but still effective on the court. The Atlanta series where Pero Antic pulled him away from the basket was the true beginning of the end for him.

No it wasn't. He'd been a useless waste of space for the last two months. He was already **** before that series even started. If you want to believe that even though he hadn't been able to guard, rebound or shoot for all of March and April, but it was the playoff series against Pero that did him in go right ahead, but that's delusional.

Hibbert wasn't scoring with anyone back then, and he sure wasn't stopping anyone from scoring!
